I recently bought Beth's book "Loving Natalee" in paperback.  She's added an epilogue at the end.

Pages 232-235

Epilogue

November 18, 2008

Dutch crime reporter Peter de Vries was apparently just getting started when he discovered those astonishing facts about Natalee’s case discussed in the previous chapter.  His investigation concluded with a remarkable taped confession from Joran van der Sloot himself.  Perhaps you saw the ABC News 20/20 special in 2008 on “The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway,” during which Joran’s confession was broadcast.  Joran was videotaped as he told an undercover informant that he was with Natalee when she experienced some kind of seizure and might have died.  He said he didn’t know what to do, so he decided to get rid of her body.  He confessed that he arranged for someone with a boat to dump her body at sea.

He said he wasn’t sure if she was still alive or not.

But Natalee had never had a seizure.  Never in her whole life.

So with this confession, now I know what happened to her.

Natalee was never in a crack house.  She was never in that jeep.  She was never in that restaurant or that pizza parlor.  She was never in a brothel or hidden away on a cruise ship.  She was never in all those awful places we searched day in and day out for months, hoping to find her.

When she was least able to defend herself, she was taken.  She was escorted out of Carlos ‘n Charlie’s by Joran and his friends and never seen again.  I believe she was given a date rape drug and overdosed, producing that “seizure” he tells about.  But we’ll never have the opportunity to find out what actually happened, because Joran van der Sloot said he called someone to dispose of her body.  He didn’t call for help for Natalee.  He didn’t try to get medical attention.  He just got rid of her.

Even with this confession, the Aruban authorities will not take action against the judge’s son.  There is nothing I can do to get justice for Natalee.  They just don’t do things like we do.  Their system isn’t like ours.

Since 2005 I’ve certainly learned a great deal about things I never wanted to learn.  Being a teacher, I found myself asking, “What can I teach others from our tragic lessons? What can I do for others who have done so much for us?”  That’s why I’m still focused on the two goals I talk about in the “Lessons” chapter.  Talking to students about personal safety and travel safety is still my primary goal, and I’m delighted that I’ve had the opportunity to visit numerous high school and college campuses to deliver my message---Natalee’s message.  I want to continue these safety presentations as well as make my Travel Ed Workshop available to travelers of all ages.  The Travel Ed Workshop is a pre-departure preparation workshop.  For more about these presentations, please contact info@traveledworkshop.com.

A number of years have passed since Natalee disappeared and I understand now how grief changes colors over time.  It never goes away---just changes, softening ever so slightly.  Natalee would be very proud of her brother, Matt, who is fulfilling his dream of becoming a professional pilot.  The solo flights he has made to visit his grandmother in Arkansas seem to give him the greatest sense of accomplishment.  He is majoring in aviation and business and will finish college soon.  I’ve gone back to teaching part time; having regained the capacity to meet the demands of my precious special needs preschoolers.  Mom and I still get together for family reunions at the lake.  The friends who stood by me are still standing by.  Sunny still helps me prepare for speaking engagements and travels with me around the country.  And on these trips I get to meet people who remember what our family endured---who remember Natalee—and their kind words of encouragement still give me great comfort.  Natalee would be a senior in college now, and I imagine she would be looking at medical schools—and they would be looking at her.  She had such big plans.  I feel the saddest when I think about everything she missed out on.

I wanted to communicate in this book how hope evolved in three distinct phases to see us through our tragedy.  In the first phase, we had the hope to find Natalee.  That dissolved, ebbed, as those early days passed.  But hope reappeared in the second phase: the hope to find out what happened to her.  With Joran’s taped confession I suppose we have that answer.  Finally, I guess you could say I’m still living in the third, sustaining phase: the hope that I can do something to help others avoid getting into a tragic situation.  Natalee could have been anyone.  Maybe your son or daughter.  Maybe you.  I’ll deliver Natalee’s story and message of personal safety for as long as I’m able.  If even just one life is saved, then I’ll know this mission was essential.  And if even just one young person thinks twice about his or her personal safety, then I’ll know it was successful.

Peter de Vries won an international Emmy Award in 2008 for his undercover investigation that yielded Joran’s confession.  Many speculate whether this will be the final work in Natalee’s case or not.

I still believe there’s more.

I firmly believe if the folks involved with the persistence fund raising/search effort/cover up... get in front of a grand jury.....the house of cards will start to tumble.....
What's cool about that....is the US/FBI can be directly involved this time. Then the US/FBI would be the Dog...wagging the tail (aruba)....

Thanks, tm. Beth is a remarkable woman.

I don't see anything in the epilog asking us to give up. Or to stop questioning. I don't see anything in the epilog asking us to look elsewhere.

Quite the contrary.

TM - thank you for taking the time to provide Beth's epilogue.

Good to hear Beth is again working with the children she so enjoys.
Sounds like Peter DeVries is not giving up either.

Beth continues to offer hope in her words and actions even though her first hope four years ago was to have her Natalee home safe and sound.
Beth must see Natalee's promise in the faces of those little children she works with and in the hearts of those students she addresses on safe travel.

God bless you Beth.

You're welcome everyone! (forgive me for not naming everyone...afraid I'll leave someone out!)

Indeed Beth is a remarkable woman.  She is an inspiration to all of us.

Thank you Janet, for all of the posts of her words.  The constant reminders of why we're here.

God bless all of Natalee's loved ones today; and all of the monkeys that will stand by them and never give up seeking the truth and justice for Natalee.

Good afternoon Monkeys!

I have great hopes in the Netherlands investigation into the corruption of Aruba regarding their pipeline.

I have a gut feeling that this may give us some answers to what we've been looking for - and also will go a long way in providing some substatiation to our assumptions that Silvetti/Schaefer et al were paid to look the other way with promises (contracts?) of things to come from Aruba.

Not me.

I have been there; done that too many times to get my hopes up.  There are often requests to the Dutch parliament to investigate wrongdoings encompassing the Aruban administration but ... it never happens.  Aruba can be assured that the Dutch will continue to appease ... not challenge ... as long as Aruban politicians are thisclose with Chavez/Venezuela ... as long as Dutch and Aruban as thisclose in matters encompassing corruption.

Think about it.

1.  Holland’s appointment of Karin Janssen as prosecutor of the Natalee Holloway case produced what?

2.  The outcome of Holland’s response to Natalee Holloway’s parents and stepparents to replace Karin Janssen and the Aruban investigative team was?

3.  Holland’s investigation into the Natalee Holloway case in December, 2008 produced what?

4.  Holland’s response to Hero Brinkman’s call for an investigation into corruptoin in Aruba was?

5.  Holland’s response to Rudy Croes’ call for an investigation into Jan vander Straaten and Paulus van der Sloots relationship and how it may have hindered justice for Natalee Holloway was?

+++++++

snip

Janet,

Don't get me wrong.  In no way do I see Justice coming from the Netherlands for the perpetrators of the crimes against Natalee.

What I do see is this.

Follow the Daisy Chain.........

Netherlands is doing an investigation into the corruption on Aruba.  One item in particular they are looking into is the corrupt awarding of contracts for their upcoming pipeline.

The pipeline that Oduber talked about in 2008.

The Netherlands has the names of the companies who were awarded the contracts associated with it.

The Netherlands said those awards were corrupt.

Turn the page now to the oil/geophysical ship that went to Aruba in late 2007 to look for Natalee.

Jug - "Their main purpose is oil related" = per LEAK

John Silvetti, owner of the ship and a Geophysical mapping company turns his back on the find of a cage with something in it.

A cage that was found very close to where many people figured it would be.

A cage that was found in accordance with tips, cell phone pings, and a confession.

A cage that Silvetti booted everyone off his boat before the personnel dive on Jan 7, allowing only Aruban divers to do the job.

John Silvetti meets with AHATA/ATA for a "big donation".

AHATA/ATA - who would the person be that John could have met with to authorize a "big donation"?

Edison Breisen - Minister of Transportation and Tourism

Edison Breisen - in charge of the relocation/expansion of the Barcadero port and the FreeZone, and awarding said contract(s)

Edison Breisen - in charge of awarding the pipeline contract?
+++++

Just connect the dots Janet my dear.  It's what we do best.

We need the names of those companies who were awarded the pipeline contracts.

The revelation of those names could very well flesh out and support the possible scenario I laid out above.

Someone has been hiring divers and rig operators for the Aruban area.  Paying relocation costs and all.

We need to find out who that someone (company) is.

Thank you Janet for bringing this forward.

It always helps to have a reminder that Natalee's Freebirds never strayed from the agreed upon path with Kyle.

We was the one who strayed.

Oh - and two Birdies with him.

Of course, we all had to resign from the group in order to put the plan in motion in a different fashion - to avoid litigation.

THE PLAN

KYLE KINGMAN’S OWN WORDS - NATALEE'S FREEBIRDS

Kyle Kingman - 03/20/08: Since I got the go ahead from Tim (T), we can legally move forward. The document should follow-up the screen shots and trap content description. We can sent the document after the initial dialog. I trust then she (Beth) will be interested in the document.

The contents of the document should be discussed and agreed upon by the birds. Since I'm new here, I should take a back seat to this IMO. I would think it would be a case synthesis which culminates with the trap contents and lack of interest and motivation to fully process the site. Perhaps Beth will then use the document to create the proper motivation using the information to apply political pressure from both sides. The problem I ran into earlier with the FBI was that their hands are tied to do anything unless they're invited to the party. I think political pressure properly applied will ensure an invite to the party. Thoughts?

Title - perhaps "Case Synthesis and Search Results", or something to that effect.

I believe it will start to tumble as well, billb.

What I wouldn't give to see this happen.

There would be no holds barred with the FBI in charge.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us texasmom.

Beth is such a strong, inspiring woman - and I have learned a lot from her over these past 4 years.

Her efforts to keep other children and young adults safe are admirable and noble.

I will forever be in awe of her strength, courage and fortitude that have helped her get through her tragic loss, and unfathomable nightmare at the hands of Aruba.

Good morning monkeys!

Members of the Second Chamber profiled Corruption attracts vermin,
says MP Hero Brinkman

THE HAGUE--Hero Brinkman, Member of the Second Chamber for the Party for Freedom PVV, is famous for his blunt remarks and many people on the islands would rather see him leave than come.

But behind the harsh words is a man who stands for a “piece of fairness” and integrity in government. He hates corruption and does not want the Dutch taxpayer to help “fill the pockets of dishonest politicians” on the islands. “A corrupted government attracts vermin,” he said.

“A government that has integrity makes or breaks a constitutional state,” said the 44-year-old Brinkman who admitted to being a tough cookie. But he says he does it with good intentions. “I am a man of principles, but not inflexible. I can think pragmatic,” he said.

Brinkman entered politics two years ago when he became a Member of Parliament for PVV, the right-wing party of Geert Wilders in March 2007. Before that, he was employed at the Amsterdam-Amstelland Police Force for 23 years.

Why did he get into active politics?

“I saw the many mistakes that were being made in politics. I saw the big problems on the street in Amsterdam. I noticed the increase of Islam in society. Punishment for criminals was too low and the bad boys on the streets were not tackled.”

Brinkman considered joining the party of the murdered Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn, but at that time, he was too busy with his studies and career. Later, he decided to get actively involved and when he was approached by PVV, he said yes. “I want to actively contribute to tackling the problems of society. To do this, you have to get in the arena and not stand on the sideline.”

Initially, another PVV Member of Parliament Teun van Dijk was appointed member of the Second Chamber’s Permanent Committee of Antillean and Aruban Affairs NAAZ. Van Dijk however had lived on the islands for 14 years, so the party decided to appoint a “more objective” person.

“I had never been to the islands and I didn’t have ties. You have to be as objective as possible. We are a highly critical party,” he said.

Headache

From the time Brinkman joined NAAZ, he became a headache of many politicians, not only his colleagues in the Dutch Parliament, but especially those on the other side of the ocean. There has been trouble whenever he showed his face in the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, accusing local politicians of being corrupt and calling the islands “mafia islands.”

During his first visit early last year, he caused shock waves with his report on corruption in the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. During the last gathering of members of the three Parliaments in the Kingdom, also known as POK, he got involved in a shouting match in Aruba, and shortly after, was thrown out of the Dutch delegation.

This has not deterred Brinkman, who promised he would participate in the next POK meeting. “The next time they are not throwing me out. The last time they did so, it was pure politics. If they hadn’t thrown me out, POK would have failed. And guess what, POK failed anyway.”

In his view, the half-yearly POK meetings are a waste of taxpayers’ money and should be discarded. “I want the plug to be pulled out of POK.”

Brinkman and PVV have one vision for the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba and that is independence. “They are like a lump of lead around our neck.” He said as long as the islands remained in the Kingdom, the islands would keep creating debts and the Netherlands would keep “pulling out its wallet” to pay off debts created by “corrupted politicians.”

It bothers Brinkman that behind the façade of beautiful houses and hotels, there is so much poverty on the islands. “We want to cooperate to fight poverty, but then the money that we pay has to go to helping people and not to expensive cars for corrupt politicians. My first visit to the islands confirmed my view. The islands are beautiful, but politicians have a good life while many live in poverty.” He stressed that PVV was not against the Dutch Government assisting in cases of disasters, such as hurricanes.

Big item

The constitutional position of the islands will be a big item in the next Dutch Parliamentary elections in May 2011, foresees Brinkman, who is convinced that most Dutch people are fed up with “paying the bill.”

“The majority of the Dutch people see the islands as an expensive hobby.” He said when PVV wins the next elections, all agreements with the Netherlands Antilles and the island territories about new constitutional relations would be reversed. The PVV may very well emerge as the largest party, because according to the latest polls, the party would muster more seats than the Christian Democratic Party CDA of Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.

Brinkman is not in favour of breaking all ties with the former colonies. The past has shown that this is not wise. “It went wrong with the other former colonies (Suriname, Indonesia, and Dutch New Guinea, ed.) The relations went sour and we had to make a lot of effort to restore those relations,” he said.

Brinkman would rather see a sort of cooperation agreement with the Netherlands when the islands go their own way, “holding up their own pants” as he puts it. Australia and New Zealand, for example, still have a relation with their former coloniser, Great Britain.

“They share history and they give content to that in a positive way. I would like to see that for the Netherlands Antilles, because we share a piece of history.” (Suzanne Koelega)

This was the second profile in a series of interviews with Members of the Dutch Second Chamber. Last week Member of Parliament Jan Schinkelshoek (CDA) was profiled.

Good morning, Helen Back.  Thank you for that article.

Good morning, 2NJ!  I appreciate when anyone is willing to call attention to the corruption that infests the police and judiciary in Aruba.  Here's hoping that critics of Nel Oduber and company continue to drag it into the spotlight.

Mafia Island.......you would have to be crazy to vacation there!
