Haleigh center moves to Baker County

First white, then purple, now white again, the Satsuma "Haleighbug" building on U.S. 17, named for missing child Haleigh Cummings, stands vacant - at least in Putnam County.

Due to seizures, Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother, can no longer drive from her home in Baker Coun-ty, Kim Picazio, Sheffield's lawyer, said.

"It's about the mother and the missing child, so we just decided to move it to her," Picazio said.

The Haleighbug Foundation became a registered nonprofit organization in early May, and will now be run out of Baker County on the family's hay farm.

"They are going to clean out the guest house, put a fresh coat of paint on it and make it into an office," Picazio said. "It's very therapeutic for Crystal to be active in the search for her daughter."

Donations are going to flyers, postage, T-shirts and various means to continue public awareness of the missing kindergartner.

"When Haleigh is found, we will donate remaining funds to other families with missing children who need funding," Picazio said.

The 5-year-old was reported missing from her Satsuma home at 3:27 a.m. Feb. 10. A massive investigation was conducted, involving ground searches, helicopters, boats, cadaver dogs and horseback units.

More than 4,000 leads have been received by law enforcement, Lt. Johnny Greenwood, spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, said.

After almost four months, no trace of the child has been found.

ITA, especially considering her health issues............and, being in Satsuma and KNOWING you can't see Butterbean except on specific days, seems like someone might have a heart and be a bit more sympathetic and let her visit more often. Very sad IMO.

That's a great point, why can't Ron let Crystal see Jr more often, under the circumstances? Just being mean and vindictive I guess.

I don't know, but it definitely show that side (just like my ex), exerting his control over her stillllllllll! Zero compassion IMO

Not in print, but I've talked to Crystal and Marie about this over a month ago.......I just remember it so well because it's such a shame

Who drove cousin, Joe Overstreet, to the Bus Station or Bus Stop the morning after Haleigh
vanished?  Does anyone know?  I find that curious. I never heard how he managed to leave, and took the Greyhound? back to Tenn. Who drove him to the bus station?  Joe slept in his clothes that night at the Croslins trailor, but never did I read how he mysteriously made his way to the bus stop. Who helped him get away? T.Y. & IMO

I don't remember anything ever been reported on that, in fact I wasn't sure if he had a vehicle or not.  Which would have made it stranger if he did,  taking away and good reason to borrow that van...
