Serial filer of bizzare lawsuits adds Drew Peterson to list of targets

Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky, who had not seen the filing Wednesday afternoon, laughed when told of the allegations.

“Obviously, Jonathan Riches must have consulted with John Paul Carroll and Michelle Gonzalez before filing his complaint,” Peterson said, referring to the two attorneys who filed a motion for a new trial on Peterson’s behalf last week based on allegations Brodsky screwed up Peterson’s case.

Too bad that Kathleen and Stacy's families don't see the humor in all of this.  Yep, Drew Peterson is the court jester and Joel Brodsky is his sidekick.  Even if this weren't about the murder of two women, the amount of money being paid by Will County citizens isn't a laughing matter, either.

Shackled Drew Peterson Taken to See Dead Mother at Funeral Home

Drew Peterson got 15 minutes with his mother's body.

Will County Sheriff's deputies escorted a shackled Drew Peterson to a Darien funeral home to see his mother's body for a last time, a source said.

Peterson had a brief visit with his deceased mother Thursday afternoon before he was returned to the Will County jail, where he has been locked up for the last three and a half years, the source said.

Peterson was at Modell Funeral Home in Darien for about 15 minutes, the source said.

Another source said Peterson was in tears while at the funeral home and under guard by several sheriff's deputies.

Peterson saw his mother before the public viewing.   ::snipping2::

Maybe its just "Bash Drew Peterson Day" at my house, but I am trying to think of another case where a convicted murderer has been allowed to leave jail and have a chance to pay his last respects to a family member.  I remember that Redmond O'Neal, serving time on a drug charge, was granted permission, but I can't think of anyone, especially an average Joe, has had such special privileges.

flutter,
years and years ago it was a common practice, however with budget concerns it is no longer allowed in my state.

Wonder if he cried while he looked at his two wives' dead bodies?

LOL, not unless he was peeling onions!

I am sure his mother was a lovely woman deserving of grief from those who loved her.   I just can't see Drew as the sobbing son kind of guy.

Sister - I guess some states have different policies and procedures regarding these matters, but it just seems like DP has been given many breaks by his "brothers" in blue.  In the grand scheme of things, this maybe a small consideration paid to him, but I believe that two women are dead because he was given special treatment in what is too often a "good ol' boys" profession.

flutter, I agree.  Unless the same consideration is given to ALL inmates, he shouldn't be given special treatment.  The only special treatment I would like to see would be to go to general population. JMO

Drew Peterson case could influence Will County state's attorney race
October 23, 2012

In a season of political ads, Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow got airtime worth millions.

Glasgow personally led the prosecution team in the Drew Peterson murder case that held national attention for five weeks of the trial and since Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy, disappeared in 2007.

In September, fewer than two months before Election Day, Glasgow was able to declare victory over Peterson, who was found guilty of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Glasgow, a Democrat, is seeking his fifth term as state's attorney against a first-time candidate who is trying to paint the longtime prosecutor's most celebrated trial victory as a political liability. While Glasgow assails Plainfield defense attorney Dave Carlson's limited experience, Carlson, 37, also has a high-profile case on his resume. Carlson defended the man wrongfully charged by Glasgow's office in 2010 as the honeybee killer.

Courtroom shocker: Drew Peterson’s attorney withdraws
October 30, 2012 9:54AM
Updated: October 30, 2012 11:35AM

In a stunning development, Drew Peterson’s lead attorney Joel Brodsky is withdrawing from the case, saying on Tuesday it is in Peterson’s best interest.

Two new attorneys will be representing Peterson, as he faces up to 60 years in prison for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

A motion for a new trial had been filed on Peterson’s behalf that argues Brodsky provided ineffective assistance as Peterson’s lead attorney.

In an unusual twist, though, Peterson had initially told Judge Edward Burmila in a previous court appearance that he did not agree with the allegations against Brodsky.

Drew Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky withdraws from case
October 30, 2012 9:06AM
Updated: October 30, 2012 12:05PM

In a stunning development, Drew Peterson’s lead attorney, Joel Brodsky, has withdrawn from the former Bolingbrook cop’s case, saying it’s in Peterson’s “best interest.”

After a Tuesday morning court hearing, Brodsky said “unfounded allegations” about his handling of the case were taking attention away from legitimate post-trial issues.

“Nobody in the world knows the facts and the record in this case more than I do,” Brodsky said. But “it’s in my client’s best interest to step aside and have new independent counsel step into my shoes and take a new look at this,” Brodsky said.

Attorney David Peilet took over as Peterson’s lead attorney.

Lawyers Steve Greenberg and Joe “The Shark” Lopez, who had been part of Peterson’s legal team during the trial, remain on the case. But that could change if Peilet decides the case can’t go forward with them on the team, they said.

Peterson and his the lawyers were back in Will County court Tuesday morning to update the judge on his case, and to finally resolve which lawyers will be working on his case going forward.

After more than a month of behind-the-scenes struggles and public skirmishes among members of Drew Peterson's defense team, longtime lead attorney Joel Brodsky withdrew from the case Tuesday after Peterson threatened to fire him, sources said.

Veteran criminal defense attorneys Joseph Lopez and Steve Greenberg, who had publicly feuded with Brodsky, will remain on the defense team. Also joining Peterson's legal team is John Heiderscheidt, who began practicing law less than a year ago.

How altruistic of Brodsy to withdraw for DP's sake.  If that was the case, he is about 3 years too late, though.  Somehow I feel that JB is thinking he better go into CYA mode.

Intelligence Report: Drew Peterson son loses wrongful termination lawsuit against Oak Brook Police Department
Updated at 06:20 PM today

 ::snipping2::
Stephen Peterson went looking for justice in federal court. He filed a $10 million lawsuit claiming wrongful termination. And, like his father, he has lost in court.
 ::snipping2::
After Peterson's firing, last July, he filed the multimillion-dollar federal lawsuit accusing Oak Brook's former police chief of conspiring with another official to throw him off the Oak Brook police force by filing sham disciplinary charges.

Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan has thrown out the suit.

In the federal court opinion obtained by the I-Team, Judge Der-Yeghiayan sides with Oak Brook and the village employees who fired Peterson, suggesting that the lawsuit was based on speculation.

I saw Nancy last night is their a new search for stacy

The FBI and Illinois State Police searched a Will County forest preserve Monday afternoon — a search that attracted the attention of the sister of the missing Stacy Peterson, although authorities wouldn’t say what they were looking for. ::snipping2::
Cassandra Cales arrived at the 400-acre Hammel Woods near Shorewood Monday afternoon after the search was completed.

She said she had heard about the search but had not been called by authorities. Cales left a few minutes later without speaking to investigators.

Stacy Peterson, the fourth wife of convicted cop Drew Peterson, has been missing since Oct. 28, 2007, shortly after telling the then-Bolingbrook police sergeant she wanted a divorce.

News for Stacy Peterson

Search For Stacy Peterson Day 3: FBI & ISP & A Dog

The FBI and the Illinois State Police spent a third straight day looking for Stacy Peterson in Shorewood's Hammel Woods Wednesday.

From Shorewood Patch:

The search for Stacy Peterson in Shorewood's Hammel Woods entered its third day as federal agents and state troopers used a dog to hunt for the missing mother.

The springer spaniel led a group of a half dozen FBI agents and state troopers—some armed with shovels—through the Shorewood park. The search party headed in the direction of the Hammel Woods dog park off Black Road. ::snipping2::
