Missing Ohio Teen Kept Hit List, Threatened Teachers, Police Say
Wednesday, May 13, 2009

A missing 13-year-old boy from Ohio, who authorities say kept a diary hit list and threatened several faculty members and students at his school, was traced making a phone call from Kentucky, the Norwalk Reflector reported.

Police haven't yet been able to track Calvin Riley down, but authorities told the newspaper they believe the call was made from a pay phone in Kenyton County, Ky.

The teen made threats against 31 students and teachers at Norwalk Catholic School, where he is a seventh grader, sources told the Reflector.

Police contacted all of those mentioned.

"We’re concerned with ... Calvin’s safety," along with the safety of everyone else involved, said Capt. Ted Patrick of the Huron County Sheriff’s office.

Norwalk Catholic School President Walter Klimaski told FOX8 in Cleveland that police believe Riley is somewhere between Cincinnati and Louisville, Ky.

Riley's mother reported her son missing to police Tuesday night, because he hasn't come home from school.

Police said Wednesday that a .22 caliber rifle is believed to be missing from the boy's home and a white 2003 Chevrolet 4x4 pickup truck owned by a neighbor is gone, FOX8 reported. They suspect both are with the teen.

"We’ve exhausted most of the leads from this area," Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard told the Reflector. "We believe he’s out of state. That’s why we’ve turned to the FBI and the Kentucky authorities."

As a safety precaution, Norwalk Catholic School canceled Wednesday classes for the 760 students at a complex that includes its elementary, junior and senior high school and early child education program.

Riley was last seen wearing tan pants, a white shirt and carrying a red duffle bag, FOX8 reported.

Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard warned the public not to approach the boy and contact authorities at (419) 663-2828 if they spot him.

Classes at the Norwalk Catholic School are expected to resume Thursday, FOX8 reported.

Riley lives in the Norwalk suburb of Bronson Township; Norwalk is about 50 miles west of Cleveland.

NORWALK, OH (WOIO) - New developments in the search for a missing 13-year-old from the Bronson Township-area.

19 Action News Reporter Paul Orlousky has learned from the Sheriff that Calvin Riley is in Northern Kentucky.

A frantic search for the teen was underway all morning after Sheriff's deputies learned Riley kept a diary and had made threats towards several faculty members and students at Norwalk Catholic Schools.

Deputies also learned that a .22 caliber rifle turned up missing from teen's home. It is believed Riley is traveling in a stolen white 2003 Chevy 4x4 pick up truck.

Officials at Norwalk Catholic Schools made the decision to close the school for safety reasons.

The public is being asked not to approach Riley but contact the authorities.

He was last seen wearing a white shirt, tan pants and carrying a red duffle bag.

The school's website had the following message posted late Wednesday morning:

"NCS is Closed Today for Safety Reasons. NCS is in lock down mode and working with the Huron County Sheriff's Department and the Norwalk Police Department concerning a safety issue. More information will be available as soon as we have it. There will be another One-Call announcement later today."

Calvin Riley, the missing 13-year-old Norwalk Catholic School Student who disappeared leaving a “hit list” of teachers and students, made a call to someone in the area from Kentucky this afternoon.

“We’re concerned with not only Calvin’s safety, but as well as everyone on this,” said Capt.. Ted Patrick, of the Huron County Sheriff’s office.

Norwalk Catholic School, where the teen is a seventh grader, canceled classes today because of threats the teen left behind against 31 teachers and students.

“We received a call late afternoon (Tuesday) that a 13-year-old child had not come home from school,” Patrick said. With a report of a neighbor’s  stolen truck, authorities deduced Riley might have taken it.

“We think the two were involved,” Patrick said of the reports of the missing teen and the missing truck. The Huron County Sheriff’s office also issued a report that a .22 caliber rifle was missing from the teen’s home.

Authorities received a call today from a friend or relative of Riley, saying the teen was in Kentucky.

“We’ve exhausted most of the leads from this area,” Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard said. “We believe he’s out of state. That’s why we’ve turned to the FBI and the Kentucky authorities.”

Reports indicate the call might have come from a pay phone in Kenyton County, Ky.

Authorities started the search for the teen after his mother called Tuesday evening to report him missing.

A spokesman for the sheriff’s office said a relative of Riley called to say he was near Veterans’ Memorial Lake Park, which instigated a helicopter air search today.

According to sources, Riley wrote threats against 31 students and teachers at Norwalk Catholic School. Authorities have contacted all of the people mentioned in Riley’s diary to warn them.

NCS President Walk Klimaski said the school should be open Thursday, but officials will remain in contact with authorities regarding safety.

Police Catch Missing Ohio Teen Said to Have School Hit List
Wednesday, May 13, 2009

A 13-year-old boy from Ohio, who authorities say kept a diary hit list and threatened several faculty members and students at his school, was caught Wednesday night in Dayton, Tenn.

Calvin Riley was taken into custody without incident, the Huron County Sheriff's Department said.

It wasn't clear what, if any, charges the boy may face, but more information will be released at a news conference scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, the department said.

The boy called a friend Wednesday morning from a phone outside a tavern in Walton, Ky., just south of Cincinnati. Huron County sheriff's Capt. Ted Patrick said the boy left a message that he was fine and "was going to live off the land down here."

By the time officers alerted authorities in Kentucky, there was no sign of him.

The teen made threats against 31 students and teachers at Norwalk Catholic School, where he is a seventh grader, sources told the Reflector.

Riley's mother reported her son missing to police Tuesday night, because he did not come home from school.

Police said Wednesday that a .22-caliber rifle is believed to be missing from the boy's home and a white 2003 Chevrolet 4x4 pickup truck owned by a neighbor is gone, FOX8 reported. They suspected both were with the teen.

As a safety precaution, Norwalk Catholic School canceled Wednesday classes for the 760 students at a complex that includes its elementary, junior and senior high school and early child education program.

Riley lives in the Norwalk suburb of Bronson Township; Norwalk is about 50 miles west of Cleveland.
