Stein new Advocate General Aruba

4 Jul, 2009, 15:34 (GMT -04:00)

ORANGE CITY / DEN HAAG - Taco Stein, the new Advocate General of Aruba. The State Cabinet Friday agreed with his proposal. The appointment is at 1 September, 2009. Stein is now Acting Chief Public Prosecutor of the Netherlands Antilles. He is the chief item on St. Maarten. Previously he worked for the Public Ministry in the Netherlands. In the National Public Prosecutor, he was charged with cybercrime. This includes child pornography and fraud under.

I think in this case "charged" means that he was responsible for investigating/prosecuting those crimes; or I sure hope so anyway!

ORANGE CITY - To some nine o'clock in the evening was over Aruba literally lights out. A lightning in a switch stadium Water and Electric WEB explained the company lamb. The authorities were no incidents as a result of the failure. Hospital and hotels had their own electricity through generators and Valero and operated by the airport. Just before the conclusion of this newspaper Saturday a small part of the island without electricity.

Aid agencies have not had a busy night, as reported fire and police. The roads were however remarkably busy with people of the power failure once exciting trip made. Also in the hotels, especially the casinos, was the pressure because there was light. Most restaurants closed their doors. Many cafes were still open and made a nice event with a lot of burning candles.
This morning was only known that WEB yesterday by a massive lightning strike was made, reports spokesman Kelvin Augustin. "It was a big blow. The metal of the high road schakelstation even scorched. Schakelstation It is outside in the open air, says Augustin, but not for long. "It's still one of the older parts of the business. We are modernizing and will at some point no longer required. "The damage to the company falls under him. "The real damage is that the island had no power, but that is not yet known."
Seven years ago, in November 2002 precisely, was the very last night in Aruba Saturday "But now it was natural that a proposed action and of course you can never arm or insurance," says Augustin.

Just after midnight WEB was slowly flow to distributor Elmar. Could then again be connected to the network of Valero. "That could not, because WEB weather had warmed up," explains Augustin from. In the water were there is hardly any problems. "People will, when the power failure may have noticed the water was lower. But that was quickly restored. The water reserves were maintained and we also supply water through tanks. "
This morning, most stadiums radio except Radio Boom Kelk and a Spanish-language radio station, still in the air. Also not published newspapers such as Diario or hours later. Around eleven o'clock, the most current problems solved, however.

A REMINDER

THE BOYCOTT

1.  PRIOR TO THE MARK PURCELL CONNECTION

DAVE HOLLOWAY – NOVEMBER, 2005

Corruption in Paradise – Dave Holloway

I knew things had changed while I was in Aruba during that trip, but I did not think it would become so obvious to the general public.  I had not supported the idea of a boycott because I did not want to hurt the people of Aruba.  The governor of Alabama, Bob Riley, wanted me to go along with him on it, but I told him I would not and I had him call Prime Minister Oduber to tell him that.  I still felt that a lot of people who had nothing to do with the case would suffer from a boycott.  I did not want to hurt the poor people, but I began to feel that Aruba needed to step up to the plate and take some immediate action in order to prevent one.  If the Aruban government continued to make such blatant statements about putting Natalee’s case on the back burner, I could not be responsible for what others in the United States would do …

As I was getting on the plane to leave, I felt as though I had shown a rock at a hornet’s nest.  The main purpose of my trip was to make everyone aware of what I felt was really going on with the investigation and to force changes to be made.  I knew there would be a shake-up down there very soon.  I had become more outspoken.  I had originally focused more on searching than doing interviews with the press.  But I had also felt that the Aruban investigators were working with us to find Natalee.  All that has changed.  I am now doing my best to see that the truth comes out and to make sure that a qualified team is put together in Aruba to continue with the investigation …

'On the Record w/ Greta' - November 17, 2005

DAVE HOLLOWAY:  I made sure that the prime minister understood our position. You know, I had been holding off on this boycott as long as I could, and I told him, I said, you know, The big wave is coming, and if you guys are not going to listen, I can't help you anymore.

Aruba Truth - November 9, 2005

Dave Holloway:

I do not have a formal response available at this time, but I will support the decisions of elected officials and therefore support what the Alabama government has decided to do,” Holloway said in a telephone interview Tuesday evening. “The Aruban people elected their officials to make decisions in the best interests of their people, and we have done the same. The Alabama governor made a decision on Natalee’s behalf, so I will support that position.

ROBIN HOLLOWAY - June 19, 2007

The Boycott

We want to thank every single person who have tried so hard for us to get the answers for Natalee. She did not deserve to be taken away from us and she should be home with us living her life. Your support means so much to us. It is humbling to see how many people from all over the world have embraced Natalee.

We realize some of you will not agree, but as much as we want to know what happened to Natalee, Dave and I no longer support a boycott of Aruba. We thank everyone who did so on our behalf, but it is no longer necessary to do so for Dave or me. We realize it is an individual choice, but please try to see it from our perspective. In our opinion, the boycott has caused a lot of hurt for a lot of innocent people in Aruba who do not deserve that.

We asked a long time ago for ALE to involve Holland with the investigation. That has happened and we have been advised they are still working on Natalee's case and following up on all leads. They have done what we asked them to do. We have to find out what happened to Natalee and have to have faith that is what they are doing now with the investigation. We will never give up until we find out the truth!

Thank you again for all the support here. Please continue to keep us in your prayers and keep helping us try to find answers for Natalee.

Dave and Robin

MIP6 (MARK PURCELL) – JUNE 19, 2007

Re: The Boycott

 Dave & Robin,

I applaud you for this bold move in speaking out against a boycott of Aruba & her people
.
The time is now for everyone on all forums to come together and see this for what it is, a chance to work together to find the truth to help bring Natalee home.

This is truly a turning point in opening new lines of communication among the internet families that have come together in really a single cause, Natalee, yet we have been divided for one reason or another.

As I have been in the past I will continue to be in the future here to assist if I can in finding answers to help bring Natalee home.

Thank you both for making this post to let the Internet community know that you do not support hurting or hatred in Natalee’s name.

Mark Purcell's positive response to Robin Holloway's announcement that Dave and her no longer support the boycott was an outright conflict of interest.

The Aruban people were given a challenge by Senator Steve French if the desire was to avoid or end the voluntary boycott again travel to Aruba.  Aruban tourism dollars are not a right ... not a given.

The Senate-passed resolution said a boycott is needed because the investigation into Holloway’s disappearance “has been plagued with an unacceptable amount of missteps, miscommunications and inconsistencies.”

“It’s my hope this will cause the Aruban people to be more demanding that their officials conduct a thorough investigation,” French said.

FLASHBACK -  NOVEMBER, 2005

MONTGOMERY, Ala., Nov. 8, 2005
Ala. Governor Urges Aruba Boycott
Call Made On Behalf Of Missing Teen Natalee Holloway

(AP)  Gov. Bob Riley called for a nationwide travel boycott of Aruba on Tuesday on behalf a missing Alabama teenager's family, who accuse the island's government of not fully cooperating with the investigation into her disappearance.

Riley asked his fellow governors to join him in urging the boycott of Aruba, where 18-year-old Natalee Holloway was last seen on May 30.

Her mother, Beth Holloway-Twitty, joined Riley at the Alabama Capitol for the boycott announcement. She contends Aruban authorities have failed to adequately investigate the possible murder of her daughter, who was with a Dutch teenager and two Surinamese brothers on the night she disappeared.

Natalee Holloway: New Clues
Investigator Tells 48 Hours She Probably Died From Excessive Alcohol, Maybe Drugs

Last fall, Twitty called for a boycott of Aruba. The island’s tourism industry has suffered: Travel bookings are off more than 4 percent from a year ago.

Does she still support a boycott of Aruba?

"The only leverage that we have in getting any traction in the investigation is when they feel the effects of a boycott," says Twitty.

Hello all. It has been a while since I last posted. I monitor the site every day and view everyones great photos, check airline sites to see the best rates, and long for the day that we can return to Aruba. We have even assured ourselves that next year will be the year that we will visit again. We haven't been since 2004 when we brought the whole family with us and everyone had just a great time at Manchebo. After reading all the posts about recent crimes.....now we are not so sure and it breaks our heart because we were so looking forward to returning. I don't want to have to worry to go out at night to enjoy an evening in town, or have to worry that if we want to just hang out on the beautiful beach all day. that our room won't be ransacked(not by the Manchebo though) or just have to constantly look behind. We had visited twice before 2004 and there was never a question about feeling safe and the thought never occurred. The people of Aruba are the friendliest people I have ever known and we always enjoy their company and they would bend over backwards for you and it wasn't just for the tips. That is just their nature. We also never saw swarms of vendors on the beaches begging for your dollars like other Carribbean island seem to have.

Look, I know there is crime everywhere in the world so it is not a new thing for all of us to deal with but this is an island that is only 20 miles long and 6 miles wide. Surly there must be a way for the police to control this beautiful place more than it seems like they have. The dutch own this island, surly they would want to make sure their own goverment or police on the island isn't corrupt and surly they would want to assure people like me to continue to return to keep bringing income to the island. I can't, of course, be certain that there is any corruption, but there are a lot of comments, just on this board, from residents of the island that seem to back some of the accusations up.

Look, there are a LOT of beautiful islands in the Caribbean to visit and my sister keeps asking me why we keep coming back to Aruba. I am sure she didn't mean it regarding the recent crime wave, just the fact there are so many other places to visit. I guess I have to now look into it. It's too bad because we really would like to come back and in the end, we may just do that but now we have to look at other options and with research, we will have to now look at our safety.

Just my two cents, sorry if I upset any one. Just torn on what to do. I will keep monitoring the situation and who knows, we may see you next year.
Mike

  Monkey Devil!

Good morning, All!

Actually, I'm not so sure about that.  There was a prosecutor from NL Antilles who was charged with having child porn on his computer when he sold it.  It was stored in the recycle bin but not deleted.  He gave some lame excuse about it being there but think he was actually charged anyway but not much of any sentencing if any.

I sure hope this is not the same guy.

This was about a year and a half ago or two years but it did happen.  If they show his photo, I can remember how he looked and recognize him.  It was discussed slightly at the time as a part of how it is so impossible for there to be corruption in the justice department of these islands.  Of course, we all now know what a bunch of hooey all that was.

St. Maarten/St. Martin Council takes active role in community's crime prevention efforts

St. Maarten/St.Martin -- Two top local island officials have joined the St. Maarten/St.Martin Council's efforts to help stamp our crime in the community and ensure the dual nation island commonly referred to as "The Friendly Island' remains that way. Judge Wilfred Manning, a long-time St. Maarten resident has joined the Executive Board of the St. Maarten/St. Martin Navy League Council and will chair the Council’s Crime Prevention Committee.  Public Prosecutor Taco Stein has agreed to serve as special advisor to the board and Crime Prevention Committee stressing the need for more preventative measures and activities on the island such as neighborhood watches, hotline phone numbers that get responses, and programs that help keep youth on the right track.

The local council helps fund crime prevention activities and related youth activities. Council President Lloyd Tackling and the Navy League's National Vice President for International Affairs Dr. Jack Stevens, an island resident, said the council will follow the lead of Judge Manning and the advice of Prosecutor Stein in working with the law enforcement and other government agencies. Stein recently gave a presentation to the council's board on the state of crime on the island and ways and means of reducing it.

"It is unreasonable to expect government to solve all of the challenges we, as a community, face in this area," said Tackling. "The Navy League will work with government agencies and officials and with any and all organizations on both the Dutch and French sides of the island to maintain a safe and friendly environment for our residents and our guests," echoed Stevens.

Council leaders along with Manning and Stein are encouraging local residents, business leaders and organizations interested in receiving the crime prevention presentation or joining the efforts to maintain a safe and friendly environment and to provide more opportunities for our youth to contact the Navy League office by e-mail: navyleague@sintmaarten.net, by fax. 599-548-3156, or by phone: 599-548-3211.

LAS VEGAS -- A Democratic congressman at the World Series of Poker to rally support for legalizing and regulating Internet gambling says he thinks he can get a bill passed by next year.

Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts told nearly 1,700 players Sunday at the no-limit Texas Hold 'em main event that he viewed Internet gambling as a right that must be protected.

Phil Hellmuth, an 11-time gold bracelet winner at series who won the main event 20 years ago, says online gambling will grow worldwide regardless of whether U.S. lawmakers soften their stance.

A 2006 law prohibits financial institutions from taking credit card payments, checks or electronic transfers to settle online wagers. The Justice Department viewed Internet gambling as illegal even before that.

It all begins in Aruba.... Aruba became a sovereign nation to protect the Netherlands from lawsuits and to create for Aruba, its online gambling empire protected under its own structure of government that creates laws recognised by the united nations. The Mansurs sit in the middle of this. That is why the Netherlands has never quite let go of Aruba..
It is all about BIG Money, as always. Greed
Barney, is prolly in the Larger group..mo.
