http://monroetalks.com/forum/index.php?topic=13727.495 Dunbar and LaPlaisance.  I have also heard that they found the body of a boy there that has been missing for quite sometime.
OMG

There are a few locals that say they heard the same thing from others.  Nothing official so this may just be a rampant rumour.  There is one local on the board that is going over to the quarry now.  He is saying that there are helicopters circling like crazy .

Saw that too NoRose.  I am wondering why an ambulance would be there, lots of helicopters and lots of people?  I think this not going to turn out well..and I think Mom has not about this all along..I cut her no slack.

Also if LE is saying a tip, one of 200, lead them to the quarry....then someone must have seen them there or something.

Crutchfield was just interviewed on HLN.  Declined to really say anything other than they are searching the quarries as a result of tips.  Not sure what's going on. . .

Police continue search for missing Michigan girl
May 27, 2009 17:20 EDT

MONROE, Mich. (AP) -- More than 100 people are now taking part in the search for a 5-year-old girl who disappeared from her apartment complex in Monroe, Mich.

FBI agents, local police and others on a task force are checking on tips and spreading out across Monroe County.

Nevaeh Buchanan was last seen Sunday night in the parking lot of the complex.

The sheriff says a friend of the girl's mother has been identified as a "person of interest in the case." He's identified as George Kennedy, and he's in custody on an unrelated parole violation. Kennedy is a registered sex offender who was released from prison in 2003 after serving time for fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

All 180 units in the apartment complex have been searched, and more than 200 tips have been investigated.

Among those gathered to help find the girl is her father -- who says he's risking arrest to be in the area, because authorities in Monroe County have issued warrants against him for failing to pay child support. He says the family is setting aside differences while they search for his daughter.

Officials looking for missing MI girl

Posted: May 27, 2009 03:12 PM MDT

Updated: May 27, 2009 03:12 PM MDT

MONROE CO., MI (NBC) - Sheriff officials near Detroit are still looking for a five-year-old girl who disappeared Sunday.

Authorities in Monroe said Nevaeh Buchanan was playing outside her apartment when one of her friends told Nevaeh's mother she couldn't find her.

Police are investigating the incident as an abduction but they have not made an arrest.

Police said they're looking into more than 200 tips and will interview every resident who lives in the apartment complex.

"The incident is being investigated as an abduction," Monroe Co. Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield said. "A task force has been established and is operating 24 hours a day. An extensive search of the apartment complex and surrounding area has been conducted to include a search of all apartments in the complex. All residents in the complex have been interviewed or will be interviewed as they are identified and located."

Police have questioned the mother's boyfriend, George Kennedy, as a person of interest.

Kennedy is in jail on an unrelated charge for possibly violating the terms of his parole as a registered sex offender.

Police continue search for missing Michigan girl
Associated Press
3:59 PM CDT, May 27, 2009
MONROE, Mich. - As police and FBI agents chased at least 200 tips for a 5-year-old girl who may have been kidnapped, Sherry Buchanan was clutching to hope Wednesday as tightly as her granddaughter's toys.

"I know she's missing all her animals," said Buchanan, standing outside the apartment building in Monroe, 40 miles south of Detroit, steps away from where Nevaeh Buchanan was last seen Sunday evening. The grandmother talked to reporters as she held some of Nevaeh's favorites, including a pink guitar, motorcycles and stuffed dogs Tank, Herbie and Harley.

"She named 'em, every one."

The granddaughter Sherry Buchanan described as a tomboy is the focus of an intense search that has sent investigators into the complex's 180 apartments as well as nearby fields, parks and quarries. Meanwhile, scores of neighbors, friends and family members have organized groups to look for Nevaeh, whose disappearance has touched the southeastern Michigan community.

A task force of federal, state and local law enforcement personnel was working 24 hours a day to find Nevaeh but has not yet arrested anyone, Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield said during a morning news conference.

Crutchfield said persons of interest had been identified, including a friend of Nevaeh's mother. George Kennedy, 39, was in custody Wednesday on an unrelated parole violation. Kennedy, whose last known residence was a Monroe motel, is a registered sex offender who was released from prison in 2003 after serving time for fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Crutchfield declined to discuss specifics about Kennedy or name other persons of interest.

Andrew Arena, special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit office, said Wednesday he planned to bring in more agents and conduct more interviews.

One of Arena's two young daughters asked him Tuesday night, "Did you find the little girl, daddy?" and Arena replied, "No, not yet," the FBI official told reporters.

"This is tragic. It's very urgent, and it's something that touches us. ... It affects us, these cases affect the investigators more than anything else we do," he said.

The base of a large tree outside Nevaeh's apartment building has become the repository for stuffed animals, balloons, candles and cards with messages written for Nevaeh. The spot also has served an impromptu gathering place.

"She was a joyous little girl," said Jody McMullen, after holding hands and praying with two friends.

McMullen, a family friend, said she has organized search groups every day since Nevaeh's disappearance and Jennifer Buchanan, Nevaeh's mother, has joined her on some trips.

Sherry Buchanan said her daughter had been in and out of the apartment Sunday and the windows were open, but heard nothing until a friend of the 5-year-old asked where she was.

"If Nevaeh would've yelled, Jennifer would have heard her," Buchanan said as she stood with her son, Michael, and Nevaeh's father, Shane Hinojosa.

Hinojosa lives in Toledo, Ohio, but has been staying in a tent on the apartment grounds since learning of his daughter's disappearance.

Hinojosa said he was planning to organize a search team Wednesday afternoon and had been handing out yellow ribbons to family members in honor of his missing daughter. He said he is risking arrest to be in Monroe County, where authorities have issued warrants against him for failure to pay child support.

He said the family is setting aside differences while they search for Nevaeh.

"I'm here to find my little girl, dead or alive," he said.

Nevaeh is white, under 4 feet tall, weighs 45 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

There are so many conflicting reports still.  This all stinks bad and unfortunately I think that a gorgeous child will not be coming home.  I hope I am wrong.

Yes, there are a lot of rumors being spread around.  The Detroit news stations have said a lot so far that hasn't panned out.  I think they're fueling rumors--they're hearing unconfirmed "facts" and reporting them as true.  One person on the monroetalks site just said this:

"I just spent 2.5 hours down at the quarry on LaPlaisance and they found nothing is what we were told... We also spoke to her father and uncle and the rumor that he confessed last night and said he put her in there is false. They have heard nothing of that sort. I just pray that we find this little girl soon to put the community at rest as well as her family. P.U.S.H!!! Pray Until Something Happens!!!!"

So let's wait and see what gets confirmed. All these stories about blankets being found, panties being found, shorts being found--none of them have been confirmed and, after hearing about them once, they mysteriously disappear from future news, which suggests to me they've not been confirmed.

Nothing found at quarry
, last modified May 27. 2009 6:19PM
MONROE TOWNSHIP — Rumors that have been swirling about something significant being found at the old France Stone Quarry at S. Dixie Hwy. and Dunbar Rd. are not true, authorities said.
Crowds of onlookers and media have gathered along LaPlaisance Rd., where divers were wrapping up their search of the quarry. Helicopters also have been hovering in the area.
Capt. Maryanne Ortman of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said there was nothing found related to the case of missing 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan. She said she has heard rumors about the case, but nothing has been substantiated.
Earlier, divers searched the quarry behind the Holiday Inn off N. Dixie Hwy. and did not find anything connected to the case.

Whew.  Thank you pink angel. Thank you. Hope springs eternal.  I will continue praying that this little girl is found safe.  There was a post on one of the newsites from a high school girl that needed to vent about the rumors that have been spreading around her high school about what happened.  I wont repeat them, but they're horrific.

Hi Jess -

Wasn't she last seen wearing knee length jeans, not shorts, anyway?

Correct Tams.  The other thing I was thinking about was the ambulance.  I hope there was an ambulance there, because that would signify them finding or expecting to find her alive.  If a body was found, they would be calling the coroner or medical examiner with all the CSI bells and whistles.
