The girl's mother, Jennifer Buchanan, told Local 4 Kennedy has been her friend for several years, and she knows he has a criminal record and is a sex offender.

Police would not confirm that Kennedy is a sex offender, but the only George Kennedy registered in Monroe is on the sex offender list.

I'm very confused about the Amber Alert criteria.  How does this case warrant an Amber Alert but Sandra Cantu and Victoria Stafford's did not?  They don't have a description of the car or abductor so what is the difference?

Not to be misunderstood.  I'm incredibly happy that they issued an Amber Alert but I don't get it.

I don't get it either. I know each state handles Amber alerts differently but it boggles the mind that one isn't issued for children under 12 no matter WHAT the circumstances.

MONROE — Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies, who are investigating the whereabouts of a missing 5-year-old girl, are questioning a Monroe man who was arrested Monday on a parole violation.

George Kennedy, 39, of 15390 South Dixie Hwy., No. 17, was brought in for questioning Sunday night. He remains in custody at the Monroe County jail on a parole violation, sheriff’s officials said.

According to the Michigan State Police Web site, Kennedy has been a registered sex offender since 2002. He was convicted in Michigan on one count each of attempted criminal sexual conduct and attempted children-accosting for immoral purposes.

Sheriff’s officials did not confirm Kennedy was a registered sex offender.

The sheriff’s office issued an Amber Alert Sunday night for Neviaeh Amyah Buchanan, who had been missing since 8:15 p.m. Sunday.
Neviaeh is 3-foot-8 and weighs 45 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at 1166 North Macomb St. in Monroe.

Jennifer Buchanan, Neviaeh’s mother, confirmed that she was friends with Kennedy.

Police found the girl’s bicycle in the parking lot of the Charlotte Arms Apartments and believe she was abducted and is in extreme danger. She was last seen wearing a red-white-and-blue shirt and knee-length jeans.

Searchers are looking for a missing 5-year-old Monroe girl who was last seen at a Frenchtown Township apartment complex Sunday night.
An Amber Alert has been issued for Nevaeh Amaya Buchanan, a white female who was last seen wearing a light blue sleeveless shirt with red and white horizontal stripes and a white v-neck collar.
She was reported missing from the Charlotte Arms Apartment Complex, 1160 N. Macomb St., about 6:30 p.m. She was last seen in the parking lot, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Lt. Todd Opperman said investigators are questioning at least two people of interest.


"We have a couple of leads," he said this afternoon.
Nevaeh was also wearing blue jean shorts with no shoes or socks. She has long brown hair, brown eyes, is about 3'10" tall and weighs 45lbs.

The Monroe County sheriff's department is searching for Neviaeh Amyah Buchanan, who has been missing since 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

Neviaeh is 3-foot-8, weighs 45 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Authorities found her bicycle in the parking lot of an apartment and believe she is in extreme danger.

She last was seen wearing a red, white and blue striped shirt and knee-length jeans.

3.  very late for a 5yr old to be out by herself

Because a good and decent responsible parent always hangs with a convicted sex offender when they have a 5 year old girl. Are you kidding me.

After they arrest this vermin, the mother should be next. Who the hell exposes their child to something like this.

Hell, I first had an issue as to why a mother would allow their 5 year old out at 8:30 w/o adult supervision. When you're hanging with a convicted sex offender, I guess the point is moot.
