2 quarries being searched as efforts continue to find Monroe missing girl

MONROE - Two privately owned quarries are being searched as a task force of more than 100 local, state, and federal law enforcement officials continues its efforts to find 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan.

Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield said during a press conference Wednesday morning the two quarries are targets of the search now, and a helicopter and canine units are being used in searches as tips come in to authorities. More than 200 tips have been received, the sheriff said.

No arrests have been made, but the sheriff said people of interest have been interviewed by law enforcement officials.

Sheriff Crutchfield said his office as well as the FBI and others are being staffed 24 hours a day in an effort to locate the girl who has been missing since Sunday night.

When asked about reports of a hunting knife being found in connection with the missing girl, Sheriff Crutchfield said property found as part of the investigation has been sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for analysis. He would not confirm that the property was a knife.

One of the quarries being searched is located on the south end in Monroe Township off Laplaisance Road and Dixie Highway, where divers from the Wayne County Sheriff's Department and Grosse Ile fire department are in the water searching. The other, on the north end, is off North Dixie Highway near I-75 in Frenchtown Township.

Following the press conference, Sherry Buchanan, Nevaeh's grandmother, who has custody of the girl, said she plans to conduct her own press conference at 1 p.m. Wednesday near a tree at the apartment complex where Nevaeh was last seen.

Ya know, its very possible he doesn't have a car....afterall, he was living in a Motel (not that there is anything wrong with that!).  I just think financially he may not have the means for a car.

I am really curious to know more about his brother.....my first thought was George used his brother for his alibi.

And while her mother, Sherry Buchanan, took over custody of Nevaeh while Jennifer spent 11 months in jail, Jennifer Buchanan said, the promise of a future with her daughter kept her going.

“My daughter, I mostly thought about my daughter,” she said, adding that she, her mother and Nevaeh have lived together ever since. “She was the one that helped me turn around. I cherished every moment I was with her.”

Hundreds have joined in the search for 5-year-old Nevaeh Amyah Buchanan. Family members said they heard a voice in the woods Tuesday night calling "Mommy" and "Shane" but that they found nothing and feel it was a prank.

Why is the Grandmother inserting herself into all of this investigation with holding her own press confrence?  Why can this family not allow LE to do their job and take a back seat for a moment and allow their missing child to get the attention and help needed??  What in the world could this woman possibly have to say that is going to help...other than that she knows who has committed this crime.  Seriously, WTH is wrong with people??  LE is there for a reason.  Cover cover cover is all I see...CYA!!!

That figures, wouldn't be surprised at all. I'm not in a good mood today at all, with these cases, and I say take them out back and shot them, I'm so fed up with this. There is no reason to have so many SO in a small area, none.

Yep I am with you on that one...they can't be rehabilitated..so what is the point ..they need to be LWOP after the first offense...harsh..but that is the only way to keep society safe.....and society as a whole needs to matter more then RSO's ...to me once someone is a SO they need to be off the street permanently.

So sorry to break in to your conversation over here... I have posted over in the Adji thread that his memorial is no longer where it once was in front of his neighborhood.  I am currently working on 3 posters to place up there this weekend.  If you would like to leave a note in his thread for him I am most happy to include it on his posters.  Words of encouragement, prayers, and well wishes are welcomed...I am sure that his family will love to see how much support and love that they have from everyone. 
I will post pictures of the posters in their new home this weekend.

According to the National Sex Offender Database, there are 3 living at that hotel, including Kennedy.  There was someone posting very similar remarks yesterday purporting to be related to the Sheriff and others involved in the investigation.  One rumor seen only in the comments section was that there was a blanket with blood found on it behind the apartment complex.  Perhaps that's what the reporter was asking about.
