Crime scene investigators continue their work Thursday, to remove human bones from Lake Carter in Apopka in hopes of solving two high-profile missing person cases.

The medical examiner has arrived on scene.

Crews spent the night removing more water from the lake, after problems with a pump Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the mothers of two missing adults, Chris George and Tracy Ocasio, continue to visit the scene and hold out hope.

Bones Exposed As Crews Continue Apopka Lake Search
Posted: 12:51 pm EST February 24, 2011
APOPKA, Fla. -- Crews were back out at an Apopka lake Thursday looking for clues about two missing people.
Bones were discovered at Lake Carter (see map) earlier this week, where investigators are looking for the remains of two missing people, Chris George and Tracy Ocasio, who are both connected to James Hataway. Meanwhile, Hataway was back in court Thursday morning in an unrelated attempted murder case.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was on the scene Thursday, along with the Apopka detective who was investigating George's disappearance.

There was also a medical examiner on scene Thursday morning and crews were working to remove bones from the scene. They had a tent set up over an area where bones were visibly exposed, including what appeared to be a skull and leg bones.

Investigators told WFTV many bones had already been found, but haven't said if they belong to a man or a woman, or one or more persons.

The search was taking place in the area where Chris George last seen alive in February 2009.

Hataway Trial Delayed Amid Search
Crews Return To Apopka Search Area
POSTED: 12:29 pm EST February 24, 2011

Video Report at link.
APOPKA, Fla. -- James Hataway was set to go on trial for attempted murder on Monday, but the trial has been delayed.

The state said key witnesses cannot be in court when they are needed.

Defense attorneys argued the delay was unnecessary.

Hataway is accused of choking a woman who drove him home. He is a person of interest in the disappearances of Chris George and Tracy Ocasio.

APOPKA --

Searchers have found even more bones in an Apopka lake, which they hope could solve two missing persons cases – that could be linked to the same man.

Police aren't saying much about what they've found, but the families of the two missing people are hanging onto every word.

Crime scene investigators continued their work Thursday to remove "a significant amount bones" from Lake Carter.

Apopka police, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Medical Examiner's Office continue to collect bones. They will be shipped out of state for analysis.

Crews spent the night removing more water from the lake after problems with a pump Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the mothers of two missing adults, Chris George and Tracy Ocasio, continue to visit the scene and hold out hope.

"Define significant? How many bones are in the human body? Are you talking about one body, two bodies... I mean, significant to me is a vague description," said George's mother Rachel.

More Bones Found During Apopka Search
Investigators Call Amount Of Bones Found 'Significant'

POSTED: 12:29 pm EST February 24, 2011
UPDATED: 3:26 pm EST February 24, 2011

APOPKA, Fla. -- Investigators worked Thursday to remove a significant amount of bones from an Apopka lake where a man disappeared two years ago.

The medical examiner responded to Lake Carter about noon. The big question surrounds the identity of the remains.

Video from Chopper 2 showed a search team placing items into a plastic tub. A detective first discovered a small bone Monday, and K-9 units found additional human remains.

But it wasn't until Thursday that authorities with the Apopka Police Department said a significant amount of bones had been found and were shipped off for analysis.

ID, cell phone of missing man Chris George found at search site
Investigators searching an Orange County lake for human remains found the wallet, ID, cell phone and other personal items belonging to Onda "Chris" George, who went missing in February 2009.

His mother, Rachael George, who has been standing by at Lake Carter since Tuesday, was able to identify the items for police, bringing to an end an excrutiating two-years'-long wait for news of her son's fate.

A couple screen shots from the video at the above link.  Sure appears to me to be a lot of large bones, more than just for one person.

Police: Missing Man's Phone, ID Found At Search Site
James Hataway Person Of Interest In Man's Disappearance

POSTED: Thursday, February 24, 2011
UPDATED: 4:54 pm EST February 24, 2011

APOPKA, Fla. -- Investigators said they found a missing man's wallet and cell phone in the area near where human skeletal remains were found earlier this week.
As Apopka police investigators continued to search for evidence in and around the Lake Carter, where human bones were found earlier this week, they found the wallet, ID and cell phone of Chris George, who went missing in February 2009.

"The more bones and evidence that we can gather will just befit us as far as looking into the case and trying to determine what occurred out here," Steven Popp of Apopka police said.

James Hataway is a person of interest in George's disappearance, according to police. Investigators have also named Hataway as the prime suspect in the 2009 disappearance of Tracy Ocasio.

However, it wasn't until Thursday that authorities with the Apopka Police Department said a significant amount of bones had been found and were shipped off for analysis.

"The first question in my mind is 'define significant.' How many bones are in the human body? Are you talking about one body or two bodies?" Rachael George said.

George's son, Christopher, vanished two years ago. Liz Ocasio's daughter, Tracy, disappeared three months later.

Both women have been at the lake throughout the search. They said they hope the find settles it all, but they don't know enough yet.

"They're not telling us if they found three legs or two right arms or anything like that. They're just saying 'significant,' so again, is that one or is that two?" Ocasio said. "That would be the best-case scenario, if we could find both of them, and that way we could lay both of our children to rest."

The mother of an Apopka man who is presumed dead after his belongings were found near human remains said she doesn't think person of interest James Hataway is responsible for her son's death.

Rachael George said Hataway may have had something to do with the disposal of her son's body.

George also said today she wants the Orange County Sheriff's Office to take a greater role in the investigation into what happened with her son, Onda "Chris" George.

She said she hasn't been satisfied with the lead agency, Apopka police.

Investigators continue search for reamins while the mother asks for Orange County help

Rachael George said she has asked that an Orange County Sheriff deputy oversee the case.

She is concerned about getting "fresh eyes" on the investigation and also expressed frustration with Apopka police and how they are handling the search.

Officer Steven Popp, with the Apopka Police Department, said they are working alongside several agencies while investigating, and there is no need for another agency to take over the case.

He says this search is a top priority for their department.

James Hataway is being held in the Seminole County Jail on unrelated charges for attempted murder involving another woman.

Mother: I Don't Think Hataway Killed My Son
Rachael George Asks For Fresh Set Of Eyes

APOPKA, Fla. -- the mother of A missing man said Friday that she doesn't believe the man who police consider a person of interest in her son's disappearance killed him.
Rachael George said she has asked that a detective from the Orange County Sheriff's Office join the case, as Apopka police investigators continue to search for human remains near Lake Carter in Apopka. A wallet containing the ID of her son, Christopher George, was found during the search on Thursday.

"My track record with them and their level of investigation has not been satisfactory," George said. "My comfort level would be heightened off the charts if we could have an Orange County Sheriff's Office detective assigned to this case."

George told WESH 2 News that she has not been impressed with the level of investigation that the Apopka Police Department has applied to her son's case.

George also said she doesn't believe James Hataway, the man who police consider a person of interest in the case, killed her son.
