Police: Small bone found in Apopka could be human
Apopka investigators call Chris George's mother to police headquarters.

Officials with the Apopka Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement today are searching a swampy area near Lake Carter where a detective found a bone possibly linked to the Onda "Chris" George missing-persons case.

Apopka police spokesman Steve Popp said investigators think the small bone is "of human origin," but that has not been confirmed by the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner's Office.

Sheri Blanton of the medical examiner's office said a forensic doctor responded to the scene today, but did not provide details. It is unclear when confirmation that the finding is a human bone will be announced.

Authorities at 2 p.m. asked George's mother, Rachael George, to meet them at the Apopka Police Department. Officials at the scene would not comment about why the woman rushed to police headquarters.

Chris George's disappearance could be linked to the vanishing of Ocoee resident Tracy Ocasio. She and George were last seen in the company of James Hataway, a suspect in her disappearance. Both disappeared in separate incidents.

Police: "We Are Dealing With Actual Human Remains"
Posted: 7:41 am EST February 22, 2011Updated: 3:03 pm EST February 22, 2011
APOPKA, Fla. -- A new search was underway Tuesday in Orange County as Apopka police are looking for evidence in a high-profile missing person case. Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed they had found human remains.
"I can say that today we have discovered additional bones," said Officer Steve Popp, Apopka Police Department. "It has been confirmed. It is not speculation at this time that we are dealing with actual human remains."

An Apopka detective found a human bone Monday, and investigators Tuesday said more human remains were found as the search continued. The bones have been found in a swampy area off Ocoee-Apopka Road ( see map ). Investigators told WFTV it could be linked to Chris George.

George's disappearance has been connected to James Hataway who is also a suspect in the disappearance of Ocoee woman Tracy Ocasio.

Cadaver dogs and a team of investigators were out Tuesday in an all-out search for evidence. They are doing what is essentially a grid search of the area.

APOPKA --

A source tells News 13 investigators have found a body near State Road 429.

Investigators continue to search an area near S.R. 429 after detectives said they found what they believe is a human bone Monday night.

Tests results on the bone should determine whether the bone belongs to one of two people missing from Orange County for about two years.
    * Onda Christopher George, of Apopka, has been missing since Feb. 12, 2009. He was 29 at the time.
    * Tracy Ocasio, of Ocoee, has been missing since May 26, 2009. She was 27 at the time.

Police: "We Are Dealing With Actual Human Remains"
Updated: 4:48 pm EST February 22, 2011

APOPKA, Fla. -- Crews in Apopka found more human bones Tuesday in a wooded area that could finally solve two missing persons cases, and both cases are tied to one man, James Hataway, the last known person to see both Chris George and Tracy Ocasio alive.
The human bones were found because of the recent drought. They had been underwater until Lake Carter ( see map ), near Ocoee-Apopka Road, started drying up.

Investigators think they may be the bones of Chris George, who has been missing two years, and that's the reason they are mounting a massive search effort. They even hauled in hoses to begin draining the areas covered in water hoping to find more evidence.

On the ground, cadaver dogs, trucks and equipment moved in Tuesday.

"I can say that today we have discovered additional bones," Apopka Police Officer Steve Popp said Tuesday afternoon. "It has been confirmed. It is not speculation at this time that we are dealing with actual human remains."

APOPKA, Fla. -- Searchers will return to Apopka Wednesday after police there confirmed they found human remains in area where they once searched for Christopher George.
Crews drained Lake Carter overnight so searchers can look for more evidence Wednesday in the area they combed Tuesday after a bone was found there earlier in the week.

Police said the evidence they have uncovered could be important in the cases of two missing people.

Crews Drain Lake, Continue Search For Human Remains
Posted: 6:14 am EST February 23, 2011Updated: 7:12 am EST February 23, 2011

APOPKA, Fla. -- Crews in Apopka worked overnight to drain a lake, continuing the search for possible clues in two missing person cases after investigators found more human bones Tuesday.
Investigators said both cases are tied to one man, James Hataway, the last person to see both Chris George and Tracy Ocasio alive. Both have been missing since 2009.

"We're draining water to make sure we're not missing anything and just trying to cover our bases,” said Capt. Jerome Miller of the Apopka Police Department.

The human bones were found because of the recent drought. They had been underwater until Lake Carter ( see map ), near Ocoee-Apopka Road, started drying up.

APOPKA --

Officials said they have found a "significant" amount of human bones at Lake Carter, just east of State Road 429.

The remains include a human skull and a bone that appears to be from a man's body.

Crews started draining the lake Tuesday, and continued overnight and into Wednesday morning, hoping to find more clues.

Investigators said they believe the remains could belong to Onda Christopher George, who has been missing for two years, but they could not say for sure yet.

Detectives first found a human bone Monday night in the same area where George's car was found in February 2009.

That prompted a larger search in the area around Keene Road and Ocoee Apopka Road.

Tests results on the bone should determine whether the bone belongs to one of two people missing from Orange County for about two years:
    * Onda Christopher George, of Apopka, has been missing since Feb. 12, 2009. He was 29 at the time.
    * Tracy Ocasio, of Ocoee, has been missing since May 26, 2009. She was 27 at the time.

Good morning Grnlizrd and monks

I'm watching this thread really, really closely for new developments.  I'm so hopeful there may be answers for Tracy and Chris's families and of course it would be great to see some that think they got away with crimes nailed!  I've been so afraid Tracy's case would go without justice, but now it's looking like there may be some resolution in the near future.  This has got to be so difficult for the friends and families of the two missing, but I hope they will also be able to bury their loved ones and see those that committed the crimes brought to justice.

Apopka police, FDLE agents begin third day of search for human bones
Officials spent the overnight hours draining portions of Lake Carter where police discovered the human remains.

By Bianca Prieto and Walter Pacheco, Orlando Sentinel
9:39 a.m. EST, February 23, 2011

Video Report at link.
Pumps have been working throughout the overnight hours and early this morning to drain Apopka's Lake Carter after officials recovered the first human remains Tuesday during their search for missing person Onda "Chris" George.

Apopka police and Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents this morning will continue their recovery efforts at the lake, near Ocoee-Apopka and Keene roads.

Cadaver dogs are sniffing through drained portions of the lake, while crime-scene investigators prepare for this morning's effort. Apopka police Capt. Jerome Miller said crews had some issues draining Lake Carter overnight because some of the water receded back into the lake.

Tuesday's search for the missing man turned into an emotional ordeal for his mother Rachael George and also for Liz Ocasio, whose daughter Tracy disappeared separately under suspicious circumstances in 2009.

In February 2009, George was last seen with two men, James Hataway and Tyler Watters. George's car was found abandoned in the woods near Lake Carter.
