Hi everyone

I am back from Kansas City Mo. If you forgot I was there competing in a competition in Crime Scene Investigation and last March we competed in the State of Michigan and our team of 3 CSIs got the gold medal and went to compete in the Nationals in Kansas City. Out of 15 teams competing our Michigan team of 3 CSIs got 4th place and we came with in 1% of getting the Bronze medal. Anyway I was catching up on scared monkeys and trying to see if there was any news. Thank you for the news and the lists pink. Actually everything on the list is right because that is what we were taught in Criminology a year ago. I hope everyone had a great 4th of July and I hope that the FBI and the Police can find those responsible soon and give the family peace as well as the rest of us.

I'm not sure what happened there.  What I tried to say was:

CONGRATS!  That's a great finish.  We're all very proud of you!  Nice work--that takes a lot of time and commitment.  Way to go.

With regard to Nevaeh, we're all waiting patiently for news of an arrest.  But I'm sure LE is making sure they are dotting all the "i's" and crossing all the "t's."  The last thing anyone wants is a rushed, sloppy investigation that could be easily attacked.  This is a special case--patience is key.  No one wants a child killer on the loose.  LE is under a lot of pressure to get it right.  And I have the utmost of confidence that they will.

In the meantime, this little girl remains in my thoughts and prayers.

Again, Congrats!

Just an FYI for any locals:
Four locations of Olga's Kitchen are hosting a fundraiser from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday July 8 for the Nevaeh Buchanan Memorial Fund.

Those who present the Olga's flier mentioning the Nevaeh fundraiser will have 15 percent of their bill donated to the memorial fund. The fliers are available to pick up at the information desk at Frenchtown Square mall, 2121 N. Monroe St., and available to download at the Olga's Kitchen Facebook page.

5-year-old Nevaeh went missing from her Monroe home on May 24 and was found dead June 4 near the River Raisin. The family has designated a memorial fund at the Community Foundation of Monroe County, with any expenses not used for her funeral expenses to be used to help pay for funerals of indigent children in Monroe County.

The participating locations are at Frenchtown Square mall, Westfield Shoppingtown Franklin Park in Toledo, Southland Center and Woodhaven Village Square.

In these tough economic times, it is nice to see that these businesses are keeping Nevaeh's spirit alive. If I was from the area, I'd take my entire family to one of these reataurants.

God Bless You Nevaeh. Justice is coming.

Nevaeh's Death Investigation Still On
Monroe Community Continues To Hold Fundraisers In Slain Girl's Honor

POSTED: Wednesday, July 8, 2009
UPDATED: 7:21 pm EDT July 8, 2009
DETROIT -- It's been weeks since the Monroe County Sheriff's Department has released any new information regarding the killing of 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan.

Investigation Into Monroe Girl's Death Ongoing

The Monroe girl disappeared in May, triggering a massive search. Her body was discovered in early June encased in cement and dumped along the River Raisin.

Investigators working the case have been quiet, and told Local 4 Wednesday that there are still no arrests in the case and the girl's cause of death is yet to be determined. But investigators said the case is still very active, with new leads being followed up on and new interviews being conducted.

Family, friends and community members gathered Wednesday for a fundraiser in Buchanan's honor at various Olga's Kitchen restaurant locations.

Thanks, Pink Angel.  Nevaeh has left a hole in my heart that won't be filled until there's an arrest and Justice prevails.  And even then, she'll always be part of me.

Proof Positive
Earlier this year we began a fundraising program aimed at reaching out to worthy causes in the communities where we do business and inviting them to urge their supporters to dine at Olga’s Kitchen on select dates and times. We provide each group with marketing support by designing flyers for the group to pass out and promoting their event on our Facebook page. When all is said and done we donate 15% of the total bill of each person who presents a flyer at the participating restaurant on the designated dates.

It seems pretty straight forward right? The group benefits from the proceeds earned the community benefits from the group and Olga’s becomes an active part of the community and wows the crowd with excellent service and delicious food. Well that is exactly how it has been working since we started the program… until this past Wednesday July 8th.
Many of you reading this are probably from the greater Metro Detroit area and may have heard the tragic story of a local girl who was found dead after having gone missing for several weeks. The community where the young girl lived has been so profoundly touched by her loss that they created a children’s funeral fund at the Community Foundation of Monroe County for local families who cannot afford funeral expenses on their own.

Supporters of that fund reached out to Olga’s hoping we would hold a fundraiser to help raise money for their cause. We were quick to oblige and intended to donate the usual 15% of the total bill of each person who presented a flyer at our four restaurants in the immediate community where the girl’s family lives on July 8th. We designed the flyers and promoted the event on our Facebook page and were ready to operate business as usual on the 8th.

Enter - the awesome power of the human heart. So many people outside the immediate community where the girl lived have vested feelings in her story that our “little” fundraiser caught the eye of the local news affiliates and a few bloggers. Before we knew it momentum behind the event was reaching into areas with restaurants that weren’t originally slated as participants. It seems that the human spirit is the supreme medium of promotion.

Using our Facebook page we were able to successfully communicate our intent to expand the fundraiser to include any of our restaurants. The exact amount of money we were able to raise hasn’t yet been tallied but because of the great people of the Metro Detroit community you can rest assured that it will be much more then originally thought. Everyone at Olga’s has been blown away by the sympathy and support that has been directed towards this cause. Proof positive that no matter how hard times can get great things can happen when people unite around a common good.

Justice the Yemen way . . .

Yemen Executes Man For Rape, Murder of 11-Year-Old

Monday , July 06, 2009

AP

SAN'A, Yemen —

The Yemen news agency reports that a barber has been publicly executed after he was found guilty of raping and killing an 11-year-old boy who came to his shop for a haircut.

Pictures of the execution Monday in the capital of San'a showed hundreds of people gathered around as Yehya Hussein was killed.

The pictures showed the barber lying face down on a large piece of red cloth, his hands bound behind him, as a Yemeni police official stood over him with what appeared to be a machine gun and shot him four times.

According to the news agency, SAB'A, the barber was arrested in December 2008 and confessed during a January trial to raping the boy inside his salon, killing him and cutting his body to pieces before dumping it outside San'a.

Jess, we need a little bit more Yemen style justice for our children and a little bit less of letting these monsters suck up our air supply.

Just my opinion.

I really hope the article is accurate that the investigation is still ongoing.  Why are results taking this long if they said that the forensics lab has this case a  priority?  Surely LE has details already and is just making sure their case is solid before they make their move.
