Wow - I dont know what to think of the sherriff's comments in that last article....I thought they had a good idea who did it and had enough evidence to know who it is.  Now, I'm not sure they know    

I felt the same way Leroy, now I'm not sure, how depressing. I pray there will be some justice for Nevaeh. 

I can't tell you how many times I read, read, and re-read that article.  I had the same reaction at first.  But then I read it over and over again and began thinking, in the interests of the investigation, what else could he say?  LE is remaining so tight-lipped in this case that any responses other than what he gave would have disclosed key information.  So I remain confident in my position that they know and are just dotting I's and crossing T's.  The fact that interviews are being conducted EVERY DAY and that leads are generated from those inverviews is very key.  I still maintain that the reason this hasn't broken yet, or that it will not break as quickly as LE expected, is because Roy Smith is one tough SOB to break.  But it will happen--with or without him.  It will just take longer without him.

Finally, I don't think the Sheriff is privy to everything.  He's a spokesman for LE.  So he only knows what the task force wants him to know.  As the spokesman, the less he knows the better.  Much like Sheneman was in the Sandra Cantu case.

The FBI is offering up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the abduction and murder of 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan.


While he would not say that the investigation has stalled, Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield did acknowledge that there have been fewer tips lately.

"They’ve slowed down considerably," Sheriff Crutchfield said. "It’s one of the more difficult investigations law enforcement can get involved with. It’s a very difficult investigation."

Almost three months have passed since the little girl was abducted from the Charlotte Arms apartment complex.

The sheriff said a task force still is operating and the FBI is still present in the county. He insisted investigators are not frustrated at the lack of major developments.

"We still have leads we’re following up on," Sheriff Crutchfield said. "It’s a very active case. We will not stop until the matter is solved."

Nevaeh disappeared Memorial Day weekend and two men who know the girl’s mother and are registered sex offenders were early suspects. But neither was linked to the abduction and murder by police.

In the days after her abduction, several massive searches were conducted as hundreds of volunteers wandered the county’s roads and fields looking for the little girl.

On June 4, two fishermen found her body in a shallow grave along the River Raisin in Raisinville Township. Because of its remoteness, the sheriff has said he believes the suspect is a local resident.

On July 15, autopsy results were released showing Nevaeh was buried alive or smothered in dirt. The sheriff said he is waiting for analysis on other evidence collected.

This is the second time reward money has been offered. The FBI offered $20,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nevaeh or her body. Newport resident Guy Bickley and his stepfather found the grave off Dixon Rd.

Mr. Bickley, 52, said he has not received any reward money, though an FBI agent said he was eligible.

Mr. Bickley said he isn’t worried about it under the circumstances, but feels if the FBI promises something, it should follow through.

"It is a little weird," he said. "The FBI agent stopped by about four or five days after I found Nevaeh and he said it might take a while. I haven’t heard anything about it since. Nobody’s talked to me."

Mr. Bickley said if the reward money came from the community, he probably wouldn’t accept it. But since it was the federal government, he would. He said if the reward is paid, he plans to split it with his stepfather who was with him that day.

I'll just keep praying to God for this Little Girl.  I get so damn angry inside when I think that some fricken SOB is sitting back reading these articles and laughing.  My GOD what I wouldn't do for just 5 minutes with that person--just 5 freaking minutes, and my bare hands.

Nevaeh disappeared 10 days earlier from outside an apartment complex in Monroe.

An autopsy revealed she suffocated after inhaling dirt.

No one has been arrested in her death, and that has many parents worried about the safety of their own children.

Families attending the Monroe County fair this weekend said they're keeping a closer eye on their children because of Nevaeh's death.

"My husband and I come together. We have two kids. One of us is in charge of one child at all times," said Michelle Kraft, a parent who was visiting the fair with her family on Friday. "We rarely ever split up. You just have to be more aware of where they're at at all times."

Fair organizers are also working to keep kids safe, with private security officers, Michigan State Troopers and Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies patrolling the fairgrounds.

Stan Diroff, a Monroe County Fair Board member, said, "At any one time, 20 deputies are on site; sometimes more than that. In the evenings when we have most of our crowds, we probably have 25 to 30 deputies."

The last day of the fair is Saturday.
