Wal-Mart Stores has shortlisted top Indian tech firms, including TCS, Infosys and Wipro, for an outsourcing contract potentially worth up to $500 million over next few years, as the retailer seeks to award multiple contracts for managing its business applications and other back office activities.

Meanwhile, Wal-Mart's outsourcing of IT and back office projects is not expected to impact local US jobs, as the retailer is very sensitive about rising unemployment in the country. In fact, Wal-Mart said earlier this month that it will add around 22,000 new jobs in the US by adding over 150 new stores to its existing network of around 7,900 retail outlets.

I wonder if these are jobs the Obama has in the created column?  Saved for India?

Perhaps Obama should be tracking the wage value of jobs lost compared to those created and saved?

Do the Walmart retail jobs pay as well as the lost IT jobs?

Well said WG, indeed those retail jobs do not pay as well as the offshored IT jobs. It's all a fallacy anyway now, for our dollar is so weak that India's pay scales will soon close out the pay differential between the US and India as it is.

Furthermore, those in the US now losing their jobs in this current economic crisis, can also expect to drop a level or even two in seniority when they re-enter the workforce. So the colossal impact to employment in the US can't even begin to be accurately calculated.

This economist details why even the recent reported improvements to job losses is smoke and mirrors as well. We have over 14 million folks unemployed in our country at this moment and that isn't even accurate, it's likely 20 to 35% higher!!!
