"We've got to train our children so they don't become victim," Moulton said, suggesting parents talk to their kids about what to do if they are attacked.    I take great offense to this statement.  What a sad state we are in when we have to train our children not to be victims rather then letting them be children.  Though I know it is true, seeing it in print like this reinforces that acceptance of where society is and the broken system that has created it is long overdue for a change.

Expert Weighs In On Likelihood Of Local Serial Killer

SAN DIEGO -- Two murder investigations with two very similar stories are now in full stride.

While local authorities are saying very little, they did bridge the gap between the Chelsea King case and the Amber Dubois case by declaring sex offender John Garder -- accused in the death of King -- a focus of the Dubois investigation.

Sheldon Zhang, who studies criminal patterns at San Diego State University, told 10News, "Kidnapping, kidnapping teenagers in this case, Chelsea King's case … it's a sign there's a sex offender out there, not just random serial killers."

Zhang said by looking at the information available, it can be predicted that both crimes were committed by people who wanted to do more than just kill their victims. He said if they just wanted to kill, they may have picked someone other than teenage girls.

"There are a lot easier targets," Zhang said.

Zhang said it's easy to look at the King and Dubois cases and think they are connected. While that may or may not be true, he said what is true is that whoever killed both girls has similar taste in victims.

"Just look at their faces. They're in the prime age; they're prime targets for sex offenders. My hunch is that both cases involve sex offenders, but whether these two cases are connected, I have no idea," said Zhang.

If the cases were committed by a serial killer, it would not be the first time that has happened in San Diego County.

One of the most notorious San Diego serial killers was Cleophus Prince Jr., who was given a death sentence in 1993 for killing six women.

A law enforcement officer attaches police tape to a tree along Pala Temecula Rd. north of Highway 76 at the road that leads up to the site where the body of Amber Dubois was found

Suspect in King homicide still a focus of Dubois case

The convicted sex offender charged in the murder of Poway teenager Chelsea King remains the focus of the investigation into the slaying of Escondido teenager Amber Dubois, Escondido police said Monday.

Escondido police Lt. Craig Carter issued a statement saying John Albert Gardner III continues to be a suspect as investigators search the hillside in Pala where 14-year-old Amber’s skeletal remains were found Saturday.

Moe Dubois, Amber’s father, said Monday that he couldn’t discuss any details of the investigation that have been shared with him. He said police have not told the family what led them to his daughter’s remains.

“We’re on a gag order,” he said.

Investigators have openly questioned whether Gardner played a role in Amber’s disappearance since semen on a piece of Chelsea’s clothing led to Gardner’s arrest on Feb. 28. The police statement appears to indicate that those questions remain even after the discovery of Amber’s remains.

Amber, a student at Escondido High School, disappeared Feb. 13, 2009, as she walked toward campus an hour before class. Until Gardner’s arrest, police said they knew nothing more about her whereabouts than they did on the day she went missing.

The remains were found west of Pala Temecula Road, about three miles north of the historic Pala Mission and the Pala Casino. There is a single-lane asphalted road that leads up a steep mountain and then over a hill. The grave appears to be out of sight over the hill.

Two law enforcement officers guarded the entrance to the road Monday morning keeping people out, and “no parking” signs were posted along the few turnouts within a half-mile either north or south of the road.

Dubois said he was eating dinner at a restaurant Saturday when he was called and asked to come to Escondido police headquarters, where he and Amber’s mother, Carrie McGonigle, were told the news.

“Everything is going to change for us,” Dubois said. “It’s going to be so much different.”
KLAAS, on the tree is USA and on the street earlier there was spray painted USA  and some other words. Was that from LE or from something else? I mean the arrows on the street saying USA and on the street? Sorry if this has already been asked. TIA JSM Could it be for a marathon or one of those hashin things?

JSM - I'm just not sure.  I know that there are plans in the works to widen highway 76 but this is way off of 76.  I really don't know.

Looks like graffiti, we have trees like that all around my neighborhood, why would they put spray praint on a tree in a reservation, maybe its a gang...??

After listening to JAG's male relative that called a LA radio station I have to wonder if he didn't have that clue that led to Amber's body or even the girlfriend of JAG which I think has two kids for him. I am sure this has been discussed here already, I just now was able to listen to it. Anyway, I guess this relative won't be invited to Holiday dinners at Jag's mom's house.... Monkey Devil!

Also I saw there was another radio broadcast today titled "Body Found" that some of you may find interesting to listen to. This is the link, just scroll down to "Body Found" 3/08/10 to listen to it. The interview with the relative is also there further down.

There were hundreds of people that came out tonight to show their love and support at the vigil. There were many speakers and Moe, Amber's father hit home. He wants to change the laws so that we have rights and not these predators. It was so wonderful to see the community coming together even though the occasion was so sad. We have to do anything that we can to make sure that our laws protect our children. There were new buttons tonight with Amber's beautiful angelic face. These buttons now say "Justice for Amber". I have no doubt in my mind that the Dubois family will make sure that justice is served. Although I have never met the King family, I feel that they too will make sure that Justice is served for Chelsea. This has been a sad sad time for San Diego County.

Yes, it was heartbreaking but so very touching. You would not believe all of the gifts and flowers. There was also a huge turnout from the Hispanic community in Escondido. It was so nice to see so many people who care. It is like when my kids see these horrible things and I tell them "yes, there are many bad people in this world, but there are so many more good, loving, people". That showed tonight!

Ya know Cartfly, I can get so riled up about these things but it is heartbreaking to know that most of these horrible things are preventable. I'm so sick of talking heads using the tragedy de jour for ratings and then the interest in change slowly ebbs away, I pray that the enormity of this is too big to slip under the rug.
