Above is a link to a girl's heartbreaking story who went into the child underground to escape abuse. This has not been discussed as far as I can recall. It could be a possibility I suppose.

If Amber was being abused in any way, she would have told her mother or her father or her grandmother or one of her aunts. I just do not think abuse is the case with Amber. I feel so bad for the others though. How sad.

Well I don't know either, I have spoken to Carrie and I would think not, but I also don't think anyone could know forsure. I can tell you one thing, I was worried about posting this here because I didn't want to upset anyone or hurt their feelings. But you know, it is something that has not been discussed and I am not sure if it can be easily dismissed. We just don't know.
Can you answer a question for me? What if anything is being done to raise awareness in OC? After all, this was a home to Amber as well as Escondido. Does Ambers Dad have any events planned in his area?

I am pretty sure that there have been flier distributions in the Orange County area. Amber's dad has helped out with the different vigils, etc for Escondido. Back to the abuse thing. You have to look at it this way. For the sake of argument, if Amber was being abused by anyone she would have spoken up. The three people closest to Amber were her mother, father and Grandmother and all three of them lived in 3 seperate households. If Carrie's ex-boyfriend was abusing Amber, believe me Amber would have told Carrie. The same goes for her father. If Carrie were abusing Amber she would have told her father or Grandmother. Amber's mother and Grandmother are VERY strong women. Amber knows this. There is no way that any abuse could have gone on and Amber held her silence. I do have a question for you Tracy. You live in the Orange County area. How do I get a hold of you via email?

I don't live in the Orange County area now but I am from that area. I have friends and family that do live there and as I said, They had not heard of Amber until I talked about it and I ask them when I talk with them if they have heard anything and the answer is no. Although I do think there was a couple of stories in the OC Register one of my family members talked about.

I think for the sake of not starting a huge debate I think we will have to agree to disagree on the whole underground thing, because and this is from what you have posted, you didn't know Amber, didn't know any of the family prior to this happening. I just can't agree you would know for sure that Amber would do this or that. I think the whole idea of an underground to escape abuse is pretty much a long, long shot, however it is something.

BTW it doesn't have to be a close family member or a family member at all. It could be a friend, a friends family member, a neighbor...Not all abuse victims, especially children will talk to a trusted parent, most do not.

You are correct that I did not know Amber or any of the family prior to her disappearance. Having said this, I have now spoken to her best friend, her mother's ex-boyfriend, numerous friends of the family, her Grandmother etc etc etc. I just don't see abuse in the picture. Not just because of having met those closest to Amber and having conversations with them but because there did not appear to be any signs. Amber was getting great grades and was super excited about getting her lamb for 4-H. I would think that if there was some sort of abuse going on, that there would have been some sign of something. LE has interviewed her friends and relatives over and over and over. I would think that Amber would have told someone. If you know something that I don't know, please speak up. Amber will be gone for a year on Saturday and to my knowledge, there are not any leads. If you have anything that might help I would be open to entertain any possibility. Ican only tell you my feelings on the subject but you are right, I have never met Amber and I certainly did not know what was going on in her head. I don't know what is going on in my own kids heads sometimes, lol! I just want this girl found!

Sebastian,
At the risk of you hating me I am going to say something that has bothered me for a little while.
There seems to be times you put the brakes on certain things and I have to say I think it gets in the way. I know you have spoken to the family members and her friends and that is important as you give an insight which those of us in cyberland don't have, however, you are also speaking to those which may have a preconditioned idea of what has happened. I don't know Amber, I have spoken to Carrie one time on the phone and as much as I liked her and my heart goes out to her, I can also see she has a perception of Amber that does not match up in my opinion.
I am not sure what those in Ambers family and her friends want from us here, maybe you all feel our ideas and suggestions are getting in the way? Would you like me to step away and not post any idea's? I am not going anywhere btw, not until she is found. I am not trying to anger anyone and I am certainly not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, but could this be a possibility? Who knows.
This abuse thing has not been brought up, not just in this case but many on the boards. I read it and thought well we have really nothing else, so why not. Something has obviously been missed or Amber would have been found already. If she is alive she either was kidnapped, she ran away or is being hidden willingly or unwillingly.

Abuse by peers in school is a very likely factor. I remember when I was 12 I was bullied a lot, there was this girl that constantly bullied me, made fun of my clothes, tripped me and made me fall down, and also would kick the back of my seat while I was in class and the teacher never cared just blamed me when I tried to defend myself by writing a note that said "I will kill you if you don't stop" and the teacher told my mom this and acted as if I was seriously going to kill the girl, maybe if the teacher realized what was going on and did something about it, I would not have to write such a note.  guess teachers are afraid to get involved. . I thought little of myself in school and continued because I was being bullied so much, one time a group of boys on valentines day threw rocks towards me and jokingly asked me "wanna go out with me?" and they just taunted me because I was fat and hideous. One time I decided not to go to school because I hated everything about being picked on and then my parents got mad at me when they got a phone call saying I was truant. Schools don't do enough to protect the students and they don't do enough to make students feel welcome, all they care about is getting them to school ("no child left behind") and making sure there are no weapons on campus, maybe I needed to go to counseling who knows, I don't know if Amber had any bullies, but she could have and maybe her teachers know about it and they don't want to say anything, maybe they should go through a lie detector test to determine what they know might have happened to Amber.

Hi Tracy,
First of all, I could never hate you! I know how much you care about these kids! I can only give you my perspective and then tell you why I feel that way, but someone else may have a different perspective. I put the breaks on some things because Carrie tells me things that cannot be out on the net. There have been times that leads have come in and until they have been followed up on, I cannot say anything. I think you can understand this. As it stands right now, I have no idea where Amber is. LE does not tell Carrie too much so if they have a lead, Carrie would probably not even know about it. Both Carrie and her ex Dave have told me that they have given LE a list of all friends and acquaintances and family members. To my knowledge these people have all been checked out. To my knowledge. I can only hope that LE has done the obvious. I am completely baffled and do not want to squelch any direction that you wish to go.

Hi Pi!
Bullies are horrible and I am so sorry that you had to endure the abuse. It is interesting that you brought up bullies. Just today I signed a permission slip for one of my kids to attend a bullies seminar at school. The school is offering a bully seminar to all students to discourage the very thing that you are talking about. Let us just hope that it helps!

The following respectfully snipped from article, click link to read the rest of the story:

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/breaking-news/story/1463592-p2.html

Outreach workers carry a small, glossy pamphlet filled with the pictures of missing teenagers. They are black and white and Hispanic, blonde and auburn and braided. The booklet includes a short introduction from the family of Amber Dubois, a 15-year-old Escondido, Calif. girl who vanished on Feb. 13, 2009, a short distance from her high school: ``I am a football fan, but this Super Bowl, the champions will not be the Colts or the Saints for me. It will be your search team. For every girl you find and rescue, it will be a game-winning touchdown all over again.''

The message was written by 70-year-old Sheila Welch, Amber's grandmother.

``To think that something that is supposed to be all-American, the sport of our country, actually has an underground of sex trafficking is horrible,'' Welch told The Miami Herald.

The girls pictured in the handbook ``all look like babies,'' Welch said. ``But they are not babies anymore. They lost their childhood.''

For the outreach workers, reaching their targets is not an easy job. Novicki calls them ``a tough crowd.''

Said volunteer Eddy Ameen, the executive director of StandUp For Kids -- Miami: ``We are not seen as saviors.''

The girls the group encounters are street-wise, distrustful, hardened and fearful of strangers -- who can get them beaten if the girl's pimp feels threatened. Some girls view their pimps as family: someone who fed them, clothed them, loved them when no one else would.

``Nobody is saying, `Thank goodness you came and saved me,' '' Novicki said. But on a good day, a girl may take the group's card and hang onto it. Some time later, she said -- maybe after a beating or a night of particularly rough sex -- a girl may find the card and use it.

The pimps do not give up easily -- and for good reason.

The National Center estimates there are between 100,000 and 150,000 underaged sex workers who generate billions of dollars in revenue for their pimps. The girls can travel around the country in ``circuits.'' Authorities contend the enterprise is controlled by organized crime.

In May, DCF began identifying in the agency's hot line children who fell victim to human trafficking. To date, they have recovered almost 85 children -- the largest number, 17, last month, said DCF spokesman Joe Follick in Tallahassee.

Shared Hope International, a research and rescue group, reported in a May 2009 report that during a five-year period of servitude, an underaged prostitute might be ``raped'' by 6,000 men -- assuming a five-night-per-week schedule.

And if the everyday job description of a child prostitute is bad enough, times of ``peak'' demand, such as a sporting event, are particularly onerous.

``Children exploited through prostitution typically are given a quota by their trafficker/pimp of 10-15 buyers per night,'' the Shared Hope report says, adding, ``though some service providers report girls having been sold to as many as 45 buyers in a night at peak demand times, such as a sporting event or convention.''

So far this week, three children have been recovered by a missing kid specialist with a South Florida foster care agency, Skelaney said.

For Carrie McGonigle, Amber Dubois' mother, finding her daughter as a sex worker would be a blessing, because all the other possibilities are arguably worse. McGonigle, who works for a printer, published the glossy pamphlets volunteers are using to identify missing kids in Miami.

``It would be good news,'' McGonigle said. ``I've already dealt with what that would mean if we find her.''

Yeah, its about time they publicize bullying in the schools and not the stuff on the news showing columbine shootings and murder which doesn't help stop bullying.

I too wish I knew what we could do that would be helpful to finding Amber.  After my warning about possibly harming the efforts to find Amber alive, I am no longer posting.   That seems to be what is wanted.    Wish we could help.

What is the name of the farm that supplies the animals to the club at Amber's school?
What is the address of her fathers house that Amber spent weekends at?
What if any activities was Amber a part of in the OC area?
Did any neighbor or passerby see any work vehicals in that area the morning of the 13th?
Did the police question the parents that dropped off their children that day?
Were any of the properties of RSO in that area searched?
Who was the last person Amber spoke to that morning and what did she talk about?
Was Ambers friends families researched, not questioned by LE but backround checks performed etc both in the OC area and the Escondido Area?
Where all of the the camera's checked, i.e. intersection, freeway, business, schools, church, homes?

These are a just a few of the questions that could spark an online discussion into this case. It has been almost one year since Amber went missing...At this point I don't see how getting the answers to these and other questions could endanger Amber. Something has been missed because she is not home.

This is an excellent summation of Amber's status.  Explanation of the LE viewpoint of the situation is clear and some good points are made.  IMO

Amber’s mystery
With no solid clues since the Escondido teen disappeared a year ago, family and police remain frustrated and heartbroken over …

By J. Harry Jones, UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 12:04 a.m.
Carrie McGonigle, mother of missing Escondido teenager Amber Dubois, spoke about how her life has changed dramatically in the past year, from her behaviors to her friends to her home.

Earnie Grafton / UNION-TRIBUNE

Amber Leeanne Dubois would be 15 now. Amber was last seen walking to classes at Escondido High School the morning of Feb. 13, 2009.
AMBER DUBOIS FUNDRAISER

A walk-a-thon to raise money for the Amber Leeanne Dubois Trust Fund is 8 a.m. Saturday at Escondido High School, 1535 N. Broadway. For information, go to BringAmberHome.com or AmberLeeanneDubois.com.

REWARD

A $100,000 reward has been offered for information about Amber’s whereabouts. Call (760) 743-8477. When Amber disappeared, she was 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighed 130 pounds, and had brown hair and blue eyes.

On a dresser in Amber Dubois' bedroom sits a pile of neatly folded clothes. For the longest time, Carrie McGonigle, Amber’s mother, was unable to make herself clean her daughter’s jeans and blouses. Just last month she finally washed the items, almost a year after Amber went missing.

Saturday marks the anniversary of her disappearance. She was 14 at the time and would be 15 now, if she is alive.

“I never want to say it, but I would rather lose a child to death then to have a child missing,” said McGonigle, 42. “I have a friend whose daughter died. She said she would rather know that (her child) was in heaven than not know where she is at all.”

Amber disappeared shortly after 7 a.m. Feb. 13 while walking to classes at Escondido High School. Despite thousands of hours of continuing investigation, what happened is still a deep mystery.

“This case has been very hard on everybody involved,” Escondido police Sgt. John Russo said. “Nobody can pretend to know what it’s like to lose a child unless it’s happened to you. But as professional peace officers, we feel very frustrated by this as well because we take great pride in our job.

Thank you Chi Monkey for the article. It is heartbreaking that Amber seems to have just vanished. My heart really does got out to Carrie. As a mother my heart broke the evening I spoke to her. I cannot even pretend to know what she feels inside, I can guess but I am sure I do not even get close.
I am so sorry Carrie that we have not found Amber, so sorry. If there is anything ever you need from me please do not hesitate for a moment to call on me. I am here at your disposal.

Prayers to you Amber. Where ever you are tonight I pray God is with you and protecting you.

I do not know the answers to all of your questions Tracy. I can talk to Carrie and see if after the walk-a-thon she can come on here and post. All of her energies are going into the walk-a-thon tomorrow. It is my understanding that the last person that spoke to Amber was her Grandmother. She spoke to her on her cellphone. To my knowledge, it was a typical phone call and nothing out of the norm. They spoke via cellphone a lot as they were very close. Without divulging too much, I have a good opinion of Escondido LE at this point. They have re-interviewed many people lately that were mere acquaintances of Amber. Unfortunately TO MY KNOWLEDGE, nothing has come out of any of it at this point. Maybe they have suspects? I don't know. I can only hope!

This is a link regarding info about Amber one year later. The cell tower was on Amber Lane and has a five mile radius. The Red Truck is no longer in question.
