That's nice to look up at the sky, tonight from the balcony we can see fireworks from two different areas, that is if there is going to be fireworks. I've heard some cities across the country are not doing fireworks this year because of budgets.

St. Francis of Assisi statue at my house too.  It was the first purchase for the house we bought when we came back to the U.S.   I had to leave my other St. Francis Statue with my parents when I moved to the middle east.  When I got returned, I didn't have the heart to ask for him back, ten years later.  Besides, he fit perfectly in a hollow of a tree in their yard.  Some things just work out right.
Yes they do. Mine is by a tree also, but not in a hollow of a tree.

My current St. Francis his back against a tall cedar elm in my front yard, facing the house, with a shallow bird bath in front of it.
Mine has a shallow bird bath also. My yard is full of birds, I feed them, but for some reason they don't care about the bird bath.

I enjoy putting things here and there around our property.  A person couldn't just stand there at the front and see it all from the road.  I put a twisted copper wind stick hanging from a branch in one corner, there's a lichen covered winged angel around the side of the house in an area of small trees.  I have some small shepard's crooks with little wind chimes here and there among plants and trees and etc.  I like it subtle.  One of my friends isn't so subtle.  She has three life sized metal mariachi's up on the top of a shed near her house.     She does things in a big way

I have a number of bird baths, some low to the ground, some on pedestals.  And the birds are at them a lot.  There is one bird bath in a secluded corner of the yard that I've suspended a gallon jug over from a limb.  It has a tiny pin hole in the side of it, and it drips, which moves the water.  The birds like it a lot.  I had wild turkeys at my bird feeders this morning.  A mama (hen) and two youngersters.  We have a lot of deer too, and I have a water trough for them.  But I don't feed the deer.  They pick at some of the bird seed that drops, but that's it.  When it froze last year, before I could get outside to break the ice in the water trough, I saw a deer come up and use it's hoof to break the ice and then drink.  It was amazing.

I'm like you, subtle, I like the sound of little wind chimes, I also have them mixed around the yard here and there.

Fanny Mae ~  my family and I like to look at the night sky too.  It's for that reason we've never built  a cover over or put our hot tub in a gazebo.  It's great just being out there soaking in the tub, looking at the sky.

Past the wisteria arbor and where Albert and Gertrude reside is a place for a gazebo. The lady that lived here before had one, but moved it to her new place. We've not been able to afford one yet, but hope someday to put one there. I would leave the top open too. Many people go out to their hot tub in the dead of winter. I'm not too sure about that one. In Idaho, and some places that have natural hot springs, people go snowmobiling out to them in the dead of winter to go party in them. I have been to Idaho in the dead of winter. I don't know how you would ever get out and get your clothes on.

When I was a kid in Wisconsin, the deer would come out of the State Forest, how they would get to the sand dunes behind our house, I don't know, but many times we would see 2-3 deer up on the dunes. My dad loves to feed the birds also, Canadian geese and all.

There are so many deer in my area right now.  I saw six little whitetail fawns with spots all together in a yard down the street with a doe.  She must have been babysitting.

Surely they will have a fireworks extravaganza for MJ's Memorial on Tuesday.

Yes, so does yours. The only bad thing is when it gets windy, or the Santa Ana winds blow, the pine trees in the back of our property drop those pine needles everywhere, it has gotten to where I leave some, just can't pick them all up. It looks sloppy to me, but I would be back there all day picking them up. And even though the birds are great, they sure can leave a big mess

Okay - I'm all by myself!

YooHoo - Northern Ro-oose! Can you tell me how to cut back my tomato plant? It's growing up and up and I want the tomatoes to grow out and out! Please? I saw  your garden pics - it looks fabulous

depends on what kind of tomatoe plant it is - Ie, Beefsteak, subarctic, Northern Girl etc.

Oh - er - um - you understand it is growing in a pot on my dinky balcony.  Just for "fun" lets say beefsteak. It has a bunch of small tomatoes on it, one bigger about the size of a plum, but the plant is still growing up.  Someone told me I should be "cutting it back" - does that make sense to you?

Both of your places sound wonderful. I love all the wildlife and wish I could see more deer. My neighbor said we used to have them here until the build the houses behind us. NoRose, I used to dream of having a balcony with a view in the LA area. When I was driving, I would see them and wondered who lived way up there. Now, I know.   an angelic monkey

Pine needles do get everywhere.  When I visit my son who lives in an area with pinetrees, I find pine needles under my wiper blades, sticking out the door panels, in the edges of the trunk etc.   I have a lot of oak leaves but much worse are the leaves of the cedar elms, and when the trees get all the little messy stuff when they "bloom".   And you are right, birds can be messy.

We used pine needles for mulch in our flower beds in Alabama. Azaleas loved them, and they were free! I like free.

They are so peaceful to watch, I use to just hate deer and duck hunting season, and have to listen to the gunshots, still makes me upset thinking about that.

If you have oak trees like we did, it was a mess year round. Leaves, blooms and little branches any time the wind blew. But ours were huge, and old, and magnificent. No telling how many squirrels and bird nests were in them. The oaks in the neighborhood were so big that the squirrels could run from one tree to the other for blocks and never get down on the ground. I haven't seen a big old oak tree in ages!!!

They might as well  I'm trying to figure how this is all going to happen, and the expense is overwhelming. Even the Laker's parade, most of that was paid by donors. There better be some donors for this.
