Michael Jackson memorial: mayor pleads for cash donations
Michael Jackson's funeral cost the city of Los Angeles so much money that the city's mayor has set up a website asking for donations.

Policing the event cost up to $4 million, according to a spokesman for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Los Angeles has an estimated $530 million budget deficit.

More than 3,000 police officers were deployed to martial the crowds lining the streets outside the Staples Center but most people heeded the warnings to stay away if they did not have a ticket, preferring to watch proceedings live on television. Roads around the building were sealed off and only around 5,000 people stood at the perimeter, hoping to get a glimpse of the stars arriving.

Freeways were closed down to ensure that the Jackson motorcade, including the hearse carrying the King of Pop's gold-plated coffin, could reach the venue unhindered. A helicopter and SWAT team were on standby.

The policing operation was considerably larger than that deployed for the 1984 Olympics, according to LAPD Deputy Chief Earl Paysinger.

Mayor Villaraigosa set up the website asking fans to make donations via PayPal, providing a link on his Twitter page, although it is currently down.

The website read: "Help the City of Angels provide the extraordinary public safety resources required to give Michael the safe, orderly and respectful memorial he deserves."

Writing on his own Twitter page, the mayor's spokseman, Matt Szabo, said: "Getting several emails asking why we are 'wasting time' encouraging MJ donations when we have a budget crisis. Folks, that's precisely why."

Mayor Villaraigosa was criticised for throwing a $2 million victory parade to celebrate the Los Angeles Lakers becoming NBA champions when the city was struggling with a budget shortfall. The cost was eventually split between the Lakers, private donors and AEG, owners of the Staples Center, which is home to the Lakers.

Regarding Dolce, the chick is cracked, and I'm sure is loving all this attention, even though it is negative, it's still attention that she must be lapping up.

You're probably right NoRose!  I just wonder what she's going to do all day every day since she's not posting here.  I'm guessing she'll find another forum - but maybe, just maybe, her father in law will find something to keep her busy.
Is her father in law somebody of importance or something? I wondered why someone would send info to him? And I'm wondering about her husband's pool cleaning service company, if I can find the info  anybody can, and who knows what people might email to him.
I asked that question No Rose and CBB said she wouldn't put out personal info out. So IDK.
I found her husband's business, and saw his first name, if I could find his last name I would check. I'm guessing he is maybe rich or something and would be upset by this

NoRose...if you have the husband's business name:  go to sunbiz.org and type that business name in a search.  You will get a list of businesses (alphabetical) and click on the correct one.  Next, you will find their "articles of organization" and it will show the owners' first and last names, address, etc.  These are all public records.

I have a question.  I posted some pictures of my son in one of the threads.  I probably shouldn't have but what can I say, I'm a proud momma.  They are old, 5 yrs ago.  Do you think I should have a mod delete them?  Or am I just being paranoid?

I'm not sure Loving, go to musings and ask Klaas. If it was long ago, I doubt anyone will be trying to look for them. But I would ask to be on the safe side. JMO JSM
