Grumbles and Fanny I have heard that also about those light bulbs, another good reason to not have them. While I'm at it, I like plastic bags, when I go to the store, I want plastic bags, I use plastic bags for many things. No, I don't want to buy fabric bags to go back and forth to the store with. I'm very set in my ways, I would like to be June Cleaver waltzing around my house in pearls, and have the small problems her and Ward had with the kids. Sounds lovely to me.

Are you sure we are not really sister????

Move over.I use plastic bags for a lot of things too.
My husband wanted to crawl under the buggy the other day at the store when I told some of the employees what I thought about there reusable bags.

My sister bought those recycle bags when we were in DC. I chose to carry plastic bags around. I hate this global warming, carbon footprint, killing the planet BS that is going on.

HELLO US Goverment, there are other pressing issues out there, namely IRAN and NORTH KOREA and PAKISTAN who all have are will have nukes within a year. If anything is going to kill the planet it is not my lightbulbs, but crazy dictators that will do the job first.

RANT OVER. JSM

I agree JSM.
Thanks Trimm, while they are saving the planet from some nonsensical theory, true threats are not even dealt with seriously. JSM

RANT AWAY Northern, I do wish they had paper bags instead of plastic though. You can only get paper at the beer store.

Hubby's daughter refuses to use the new bulbs too after hearing about the mercury.
Our Electrical Cooperative sent out free samples of the new bulbs.I don't like the idea of trying to force our hand on stuff like this.

We had a lovely lady go door to door to hand out bulbs.  I was having a bad day when she came to my door and pretty much lectured her about research findings and how dangerous they were and that she should be wearing a hazmat suit and get leukemia insurance as she was pretty much carrying around a box of dirty bombs.

I could stand paper bags if they were the good thick kind like we got years ago.You could reuse those for a lot of things.

It's weird about mercury - I remember being given little balls of mercury to roll around in my science class. Of course I also remember when I was a young kid h aving fun X-raying my feet in a step in machine to see if my shoes fit - no wonder I look the way I do!:MonkeyDance::

I know what you mean Grumbles. When we were kids, if someone was "lucky" enough to break a thermometer, we would pass little droplets around and everyone got one. We would put it on nickles and quarters and really make them shiny. The way you hear it now, if that was going on in a classroom, we would have been a HazMat event and we would probably have all dropped dead on the spot. I have made it through many years, and besides being goofy a lot of the time, I don't think I have any symtoms.

Does mercury make you goofy??

You can relax about the missle test NOROSE.

The missle shot hit Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific. Unless they moved California since I was last there, I don't think you are even close.
I asked my husband, he says they test stuff all the time, though this could have been a warning to North Korea. I have no idea what my husband does for a living, it is top secret, he can't tell me.  Like I would even understand if he did tell me

I think we are. I was just kidding about being blown up, but I was starting to get concerned, because you know they do those tests on the tv in case of an emergency, and they did two tests today

That's pretty exciting - I mean if you did know what he does but you don't - so what do you say when people ask what your OH does - Just say dunno?

My needs for plastic bags not quite so June Cleaver and pearls glamorous, I need them for poop bags - I live in a doggy-poop pickup zone
Don't they furnish the bags for you? Where I live we have doggie poop set ups, complete with bags and garbage cans. But some people don't understand what that is for just the same.

RANT AWAY Northern, I do wish they had paper bags instead of plastic though. You can only get paper at the beer store.

My friend was involved in a study and swabbed the inside of resuable bags as people entered the grocery store.  The results were astounding.  She grew cultures of Ecoli, salmonella, campylobacter jejuni, and vibrio parahaemolyticus just to name a few.  The issue is that the bags need to be washed in hot water with bleach after every use.  A lot of the reusable bags are not washable.  People go into the store with all kinds of colds, and pick up items and put them down.  They have now contaminated the item and any item that touches it.   You come along , pick it up and put it in your bag.  Colds is not the worst, the worst are some bacteria that you would expect to find in your bathroom not in a  grocery bag.  Seems more people scratch their butts these days them pick up groceries.  Then you have cross contamination from leaking seafood and meat that never gets cleaned out of the bags properly or at all.

You are like me, if people want to use them fine, just leave me out of it. When I go to the store, people really need to leave me alone. It never fails, I always have an employee ask me if I need help, I just tell them I'm always confused looking

See Mercury answer below.  I could use a good HazMat event today - our holiday is Wednesday and everyone is pretending they are in "meetings" when they are actually halfway to their holiday destinations.

Thanks No Rose for the info about the test. They should have tested it out on North Korea instead of some atoll in the Pacific.

No way - it's either go to the upscale doggy shop and buy them - or recycle (hey - you like that?) the ones from the grocery store.
