One of the guys involved in the shooting of students in Detroit just turned himself in. He went strolling into the police station with his lawyer like he didn't have a care in the world.

I wish more criminals would stroll into the police station and turn themselves in, minus their lawyer of course.

119,000,000 will be forced out of their private insurance if this new health plan goes through.
REVOLTING, I'm mad as h*ll and not gonna take it anymore!!!! I'll be d*mned if they are going to take over my healthcare!!!!

I'm going to jump into the health care debate for a minute and will probably get creamed but here goes! We have national health care in Canada.  We each pay approx $50 a month single, there is another amount for families.  With that you can get any kind of health service you require, including any kind of specialist, operation, etc., with any specialist you want. For example, my friends husband has leukemia. He is taking a medication for it that costs $9000 a month, but the healthcare pays for it. If you cannot afford to pay for your healthcare, it is provided free.  If you are in a low-income tax bracket, you will pay a reduced rate. This includes X-rays, diagnostic tests such as Cat scans and MRI's, hip replacements, knee replacements, open heart surgery, etc. And yes, there are waiting lists for non-emergency surgeries.  Oh yes, I forgot transplants are also on the included list, maternity deliveries and any kind of baby care - and on and on.  So we feel very fortunate - at least I do.

We are already practically standing in lines for our health care anyway. Try to make an appointment with a specialist, and you are really lucky to get in to see one in a month!!! When you get there, you are herded arround like a bunch of cattle. Have to get there 45 mins before your appointment only to sit in the office for another hour after your appointment time. Then when you are called in and think you are going in to see the doctor, they put you in another waiting room!!!  Sorry, JSM! I know you work in a doctor's office, but that is why I have to be almost dying before I will go to the doctor. I do, however, love our family physician.

While I am still on a rant, I think Governor Sanford is proud of himself and is a exhibitionist. He drones on and on and on about his love life and misdeeds. I think he is getting off on his own self!!!
Don't be sorry, say what you feel. Gov Sanford needs to shut his yap and move to Argentina.

Govenor Sanford is now saying he will not release records as he previously promised. He is said to have used state funds for going to see his "soul mate" in Argentina. He has been pressured to resign.

Didn't we go through something similar before in Illinois and New York?? WTH????

Honestly No Rose - I don't know the answer to that - England vs Canada. I just remember on my first trip to England in the 70's I had to get a smallpox booster shot so I could come home.  I went to a doctor whose office was part of his home.  He was a really nice fatherly guy, but he fished around in a kind of glass bowl for a needle he liked the look of, put the stuff in, didn't squirt it out to make sure it didn't have air bubbles, and didn't swab my arm first, and being a Canuck, I thought - I'm gonna die!

Sanford is a real gem. I think it was yesterday after calling the Argentina woman his soul mate, that he will try to fall in love with his wife again.

Don't stop talking, and you are right, if you are single without kids you are penalized. Many years ago, before kids, my husband was laid off, we didn't want to but went to ask about food stamps. We were told we qualified for so little food stamps, basically enough to eat popcorn and white bread, I told them to shove it up their azzes. We were penalized because we had no kids. Don't we already in this country have medicaid, and in Cal it is called Medi Cal. Is that not like socialized medicine?
You asked for it NRCG

OK, here's my story...I got pregnant with my son, I wasn't married and didn't have maternity insurance...dumb move and my burdon to bear I know.  I was 30 not 15, I should have known better.  So, what's your point, you ask?  My point is this, I worked my butt off for everything I have.  When I went to get help with the $16,000+ medical bill (I didn't want it paid for, I just wanted them to evaluate it as "reasonable & customary" like the insurance companies do) , social services told me that I should have quit working when I found out I was pregnant and the government would have paid for all of it.  So, in a nut shell, I worked my butt off for 50 hr work weeks during my pregnancy to pay a $16000 medical bill (which I have finally paid off without filing bankruptcy, thank you) when I could have sat on the couch for nine months eating bonbons and got the whole thing paid for.  How much sense does that make?

I wonder where CC has been lately..
Well, I see they're talking porn again in the Caylee thread.  CC will be there soon if he's not in Puerto Rico with Baez and HOraldo.

I have to click off the Caylee thread when I am on JSM's thread. I am afraid I will go on one of my rants over there by mistake!! When I keep both threads open, I feel like I have a split personality!

Well, we need some changes that for sure, but we need a lot of changes for a lot of things, and frankly I don't expect much from the president. But that's me.

an angelic monkey   It makes no sense at all. But nothing makes much sense to me. Now if we had more people like you, we might not have as many problems as we have in this country. To many people looking for a handout. I come from a family that worked hard, and didn't look for handouts. My one grandpa, wouldn't even take money that was coming to him for his daughter, my aunt that had disabilities.

See to me that is just wrong!  Why not continue to work if you wanted to - take a paid maternity leave for up to a year after the baby is born at 60% of your salary, have your medical paid if you can't afford it or a percentage if you can, and when you go back to work, if you can't afford your full daycare costs, have it partially paid?  We're very civil up here.  Speaking of civil - do you know the French routinely get 6 weeks holidays here per year - like everybody? Or more??

Sorry, just read the comment above.  No, our welfare and medical system are very separate entities.  On welfare you would have received shelter costs plus a food allowance (in money) and your medical costs, drugs, bus pass, etc are free. You can only stay on welfare here for I think a maximum of two years unless you have a proven disability, and if so, you will receive extra funds in your disability cheque.

That wasn't good. As a child my doctor lived in the same house that his office was in.

Oh yes, and we also have emergency welfare - that is if you get laid off, and need help until you get back on your feet and don't have unemployment insurance - although it is mandatory here, you would get money for assistance, but would be expected to pay it all or partially back once you are again employed. What's wrong with our system? There are many scammers who take advantage of it.
