Ex-NFL Quarterback Steve McNair found shot to death

Thank-you, I must admit that his name does not ring a bell, but what a horrible thing, and it looks like a woman was shot also.

The 4th was a big deal where I grew up. We lived, my dad still does, in an old fishing town, our house is right on Lake Michigan. There was always a parade, a carnival came to town for a week, and big fireworks at the baseball field. I have to stop remembering these days, because I get horribly depressed, they say memories are all you got, but for me I try to forget because it makes me so sad.

He was another Mississippi guy that made good. I would think that Shep will be heartbroken, even if he didn't go to Old Miss.

I enjoyed reading your stories, and thanks for putting the Declaration of Independence up. I just got back from Walmart and Ralphs grocery store. I bit my tongue through both stores, even though there was a woman who was about 55 and heavy who wore a micro mini dress and literally flashed me and many others through both stores with her black bikini underwear. I am disgusted, we live in South Orange County which is very conservative, I don't live far from the famous Saddleback Church. One would never guess that it was the 4th of July. I had one boy that was bagging my grocerys say happy holiday to me. Nobody was dressed patriotic, but a couple people, I have a tee shirt with the flag on it, so did one or two others. I have to say this was not a good feeling.  It just felt very apathetic.

We live in a small town here in Ohio, a very southern suburb of Dayton. The main streets are decorated with flags. There was a parade and an arts and craft like event this afternoon, with food vendors. They have the main streets blocked off. Usually they fly a huge American flag from a very high crane right at the main steets intersection. I haven't been up that way for a couple of days, so I am not sure they put it up this year. We are getting son ready for his trip tomorrow so we didn't go this year. Tonight, there will be a big fireworks display unless the drizzle we are getting postpones it. We can watch with the neighbors out front in the lawn chairs.

I can say this is one of the things I do like about living here. Holiday's are celebrated, and so are seasons. There is some interesting history, and historic buildings, and pride in heritage here. We often take mini-vacations and never leave the state.

I miss my red-neck Fourth of July's though. Going out on somebody's pier on the bay in the dark, shooting off bottle rockets, sometimes at each other! Carrying beer and soft drinks of all kind iced down in a galvanized tub. Singing our favorite songs along with someone's portable radio. After the kids were all tired out and tucked into bed we would sit there fighting the mosquitoes until the sun started rising over the water, talking softly and joking about life, and listening to the old war tales told by the older ones.  I told ya'll I was nostalgic today.

Hubby said when went by Walmart there were Veterans there passing out flowers.
Flags were out of stock here.
We didn't go swimming today.Too much boat traffic and grandson is a little scared of the water. You can smell food cooking on the grills, and music playing up and down the lake, but not too loud.
Now tonight,it will be a different story. One year a bunch of guys stripped down but naked and jumped off the top of the boat dock across the slough from us.   Monkey Devil!
Live band will cranking up shortly. We can see the condos and marina from my screened in porch.Pretty cool. We're not fancy, but we can throw down.

Everybody deals with the past in a different way. There was some bad stuff, but I try to skim over that part. Sometimes, on a nostalgic day like the day is for me, I like to think back to the more pleasant and sometimes funny things. I try not to live in the past. There is too much for me to do today. I sometimes like to look at pictures too. But then I put them away and get back to what is at hand. I sometimes have to give myself a big kick in the pants, and tell myself to get on with it. Somedays it is easier to do than others.  an angelic monkey

I understand, I live in the past a lot, it's hard to look at now and what the future holds, I don't do good at that. Right now we can't even decide what to eat for supper.

We are missing JSM. I am hoping her sister came, and they are now out together doing some sister things, and maybe have gone to eat. I did not want JSM eating convenient store hot dogs for Fourth of July. I think I am going to have to adopt her and drag her and Josef to Ohio. NoRose, you & Zoe can come too. There are two condos vacant very close by. My son has always been called St Francis of Assisi, because he has a way with animals. Zoe and Josef will have an incredible sweet disposition when he gets through with them.We would laugh so much and eat so much, we would make ourself puke.

Then we would get into the Witless News Van and go down to TRIMMS
and give the guys across the slugh from her a run for their money skinny dipping!!!

St. Francis of Assisi statue at my house too.  It was the first purchase for the house we bought when we came back to the U.S.   I had to leave my other St. Francis Statue with my parents when I moved to the middle east.  When I got returned, I didn't have the heart to ask for him back, ten years later.  Besides, he fit perfectly in a hollow of a tree in their yard.  Some things just work out right.

That's the last purchase I want to make for our courtyard. We have left the space for it. I found one that also has a water fall at the foot of it. It was perfect, but pricey. I am going to wait till the late summer and fall, and see if I can get a better price for it and may can afford it. Then I will light it up at night with a solar spotlight.

I love the prayer of St Francis, too.

When we cook and eat outside, I love to have the lights on around the eves. But on usual nights, we turn those off and just have the solar lights on around the beds. That is when I love it the most. We close the umbrella, and look at the stars and moon, and watch the planes and sattelites going past. We have a lot of of plane traffic, not really low but still there. We are very close to Wright Patterson AFB and to a couple of private air fields.

Fanny Mae ~  my family and I like to look at the night sky too.  It's for that reason we've never built  a cover over or put our hot tub in a gazebo.  It's great just being out there soaking in the tub, looking at the sky.

My current St. Francis his back against a tall cedar elm in my front yard, facing the house, with a shallow bird bath in front of it.
