Rumor has it that Michael Jackson's family plans to turn Neverland Ranch into a Graceland-like tourist attraction, which will include a museum, a concert venue, and amusement park. Whether or not that's actually going to happen remains to be seen, but if you're curious about the King of Pop's 2,700-acre estate, Architectural Digest has dedicated its November issue (on sale September 30) to MJ's fantasy home.

The magazine features rare shots of Neverland taken by photographer Harry Benson, who also gives a first-person account of his visits with the superstar over the years. Check out a few of Harry's photographs and memories of Michael Jackson below:

Michael Jackson’s 1993 Accuser's father Found Dead
Nov 18, 2009

Evan Chandler, the father to Jordan Chandler who accused Michael Jackson of sexual molestation in 1993 has been found dead with a single bullet wound to the head in his New Jersey apartment.

The body of the 65 year old was found in his apartment on November 5, bonfire night and has been ruled suicide by police detectives after finding a gun with his body that matches that of the wound to the head.

“Evan Chandler’s body was found at 5.35 pm on November 5 by the concierge at his luxury apartment building in Jersey City. We have ruled it as suicide because he was found with a gun held to his body and had a single bullet wound to the side of his head. Mr. Chandler was 65.”

A doctor based at Colanta Hematology in Bayonne, NJ, had called the concierge, asking him check on Mr. Chandler’s apartment and police were notified of the death, after Evan Chandler missed an appointment for a serious medical condition.

The original case, which Evan Chandler and his son accused Michael of never went to trial, and settled out of court for an unnamed fee. The boy, then 13 received a civil settlement for “personal injuries arising out of claims of negligence” from Jackson. Both parties signed a confidentiality agreement, promising not to talk about the case or the multi-million-dollar settlement.

Michael Jackson's Doctor Says Others Gave Him Propofol
November 20, 2009

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Michael Jackson's personal physician told investigators he was not the first doctor to give the pop star propofol, the powerful anesthetic that was one of the drugs to cause his death, according to court papers unsealed on Friday.

Dr. Conrad Murray, a target of the criminal probe into Jackson's death, recounted under questioning by a Los Angeles police detective that Jackson told him he was given propofol by two unnamed doctors in Germany, the affidavit states.

Murray, a heart specialist with offices in Houston and Las Vegas, was hired to care for Jackson while the singer prepared for a series of comeback concerts in the weeks before his sudden death in Los Angeles on June 25 at age 50.

The Los Angeles County coroner has ruled the death a homicide by overdose, determining that propofol and the sedative lorazepam were the main drugs that caused his death.

Murray previously had been identified as the target of a manslaughter probe, but Los Angeles prosecutors are still determining whether to seek criminal charges against any one of a number of doctors who treated the "Thriller" singer.

The latest affidavit was filed in support of a search warrant carried out in August at a Las Vegas pharmaceutical supply office where Murray bought propofol and other drugs later found in the singer's body, the affidavit states. Copies were made public Friday on celebrity news website TMZ.com.

Murray has admitted giving Jackson a 25-milligram dose of propofol the morning he died, according to police records. Murray told police he worried Jackson was addicted to propofol and was trying to wean him off the drug with smaller doses.

The latest affidavit says Murray recalled Jackson being vague when Murray asked who else was treating him and what drugs he was being prescribed.

Jackson mentioned two other doctors, his longtime dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein and previous personal physician Allan Metzger, "had given him medicine and that it was not working," the affidavit states.

It also says Murray arranged at Jackson's request for another doctor in Las Vegas, identified as David Adams, to give the singer propofol, which he did in Murray's presence in "a third party cosmetologist's office."

The document also states that bottles of propofol were found in Murray's doctor's bag and on the bedside table of Jackson's home after his death.

Estate opposes stipend for Joe Jackson

Michael Jackson's estate has opposed a bid by the late singer's father to receive a monthly allowance, saying it would take money away from the singer's young children.

Attorneys for estate administrators John Branca and John McClain on Thursday filed papers opposing Joe Jackson's efforts to get more than $15,000 a month from his son's estate. The filing states Joe Jackson has failed to show that his superstar son supported him while he was alive. Jackson died June 25 in Los Angeles at age 50.

The filings also note that the singer omitted his father as a beneficiary in his will and trust, and that any money paid to Joe Jackson would reduce the estate's assets available for Michael Jackson's mother and children.

The children, Katherine Jackson and various unnamed charities are the only beneficiaries of Michael Jackson's estate. Katherine Jackson and the children are receiving more than $86,000 a month, and the administrators recently moved to increase the monthly stipends. The exact allowance amount has not been released.

Joe Jackson filed for the monthly stipend in November, saying he had little income and relied on his son's help to survive.

It will be up to a judge to decide whether Joe Jackson receives any money from the estate. A hearing on the petition is scheduled for Jan. 28.

Coroner releases new details about Michael Jackson's death
By Alan Duke, CNN
February 10, 2010 2:05 p.m. EST

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- With Dr. Conrad Murray officially charged in Michael Jackson's death, the Los Angeles coroner has released the autopsy report that said it was a homicide.

The 51-page report gives vivid detail supporting last August's conclusion that Jackson died from "acute propofol intoxication."

Murray told investigators he gave Jackson propofol, a powerful anesthetic, to help him sleep.

An anesthesiology consultant hired by the coroner to review the findings of the investigation said that "there are NO reports of its use for insomnia relief, to my knowledge," according to the report.

"The only reports of its use in homes are cases of fatal abuse (first reported in 1992), suicide, murder and accident," Dr. Selma Calmes wrote.

"The standard of care for administering propofol was not met," she wrote.

Autopsy report lists details of Jackson's death (PDF)

Murray, who was with Jackson when he died, is charged with involuntary manslaughter by acting "without malice" but also "without due caution and circumspection."

Jackson, who hired Murray as his physician while he prepared for what was to have been a series of comeback concerts, called the doctor to his rented Holmby Hills mansion last June 25 at about 1 a.m., the report said.

"The decedent complained of being dehydrated and not being able to sleep," it said.

A police affidavit previously made public said that the doctor told investigators he gave Jackson three anti-anxiety drugs to help him sleep that morning.

Murray told them he had been treating Jackson for insomnia for six weeks at the time of the singer's death. He had given Jackson 50 milligrams of the sedative propofol diluted with the local anesthetic lidocaine every night via an intravenous drip.

The doctor told police he was worried that Jackson was becoming addicted to the drug and was trying to wean him off it.

During the two nights before Jackson's death, Murray said, he put together combinations of other drugs that succeeded in helping Jackson sleep.

Coroner investigators first examined Jackson's body at UCLA Medical Center less than three hours after he was pronounced dead. They used the picture on his California driver's license to confirm it was the singer.

"The decedent's head hair is sparse and is connected to a wig. The decedent's overall skin has patches of light and dark pigmented areas," an investigator wrote.

Jackson suffered permanent hair loss when his scalp caught fire while he was taping a Pepsi commercial in 1984. He was known to wear wigs in public after the mishap.

Jackson's dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein, told CNN last year that he had treated Jackson for vitiligo, a skin condition that causes irregular patches of white skin.

Jackson weighed 136 pounds and was 69 inches tall, according to measurements taken during the autopsy the morning after his death.

The front of Jackson's scalp, from his hairline, was tattooed with dark ink over "frontal balding." His eyebrows and the border of his eyelids were also tattooed.

"There is a pink tattoo in the region of the lips," the report said.

The autopsy report noted several broken ribs, apparently suffered during the efforts to revive him.

The autopsy also said that Jackson's left lung was affected by "widespread respiratory bronchiolitis and chronic lung inflammation" that could have had an "adverse health effect." But it was not "considered to be a direct or contributing cause of death," a pathologist hired as a consultant concluded.

Calmes, the consultant, concluded that propofol was administered without the recommended equipment being present, including a "continuous pulse oxymeter, EKG and blood pressure cuff."

Use of the anesthesia requires "full patient monitoring by a person trained in anesthesia," she wrote. Murray is a cardiologist.

"There was no evidence of an infusion pump for control of an IV infusion. No monitors were found at the scene; a blood pressure cuff and portable pulse oxymeter were recovered from a closet in the next room," Calmes wrote.

The consultant said supplemental oxygen "should always be delivered" when propofol is being administered.

An oxygen tank was found near where Jackson slept, but it was empty when the coroner investigator checked it two weeks after Jackson died, Calmes said.

"Multiple opened bottles of propofol were found with small amounts of remaining drug," Calmes said. "A used bottle should be discarded six hours after opening, to avoid possible bacterial growth."

"The levels of propofol found on toxicology exam are similar to those found during general anesthesia for major surgery," Calmes said.

During such surgery, any patient would be "intubated and ventilated by an anesthesiologist," she said.

The consultant's report said the level of lorazepam, a powerful anti-anxiety agent found in Jackson's body, "would have accentuated the respiratory and cardiovascular depression from propofol."

An involuntary manslaughter charge against a physician is a "very unusual thing to see," according to Bruce Cranner, a New Orleans defense lawyer in medical cases.

Cranner said prosecutors may have a "pretty good case" against Murray if they can show he did not take proper precautions when giving Jackson the propofol.

Skin-Whitening Creams Found At Michael Jackson's Home ( Rolling Eyes imagine that Rolling Eyes )
3/30/2010 11:20 AM  ET

Investigators have revealed that Michael Jackson was in possession of various creams used to whiten skin at the time of his death last summer. The creams were presumably in Jackson's treatment for a skin condition called vitiligo, in which patches of the skin lose their pigmentation.

The medicines found were reportedly hydroquinone and Benoquin, both of which mask the color of skin that has not yet lost its pigmentation. In their search, investigators also found 11 vials of the sedative propofol, which was ultimately ruled as the cause of Jackson's death.

Meanwhile, details continue to unfold in the case against Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, who allegedly ordered a body guard at the Jackson compound in Encino, California, to remove vials of medicine from the home so they would not be found by investigators.

Newly released hospital reports show that emergency room doctors were able to briefly restart the singer's heart before he died.

"There was cardiac activity, electrical impulses and he did have a cardiac rhythm which they got going through their resuscitation," Jackson family attorney Brian Oxman said in a statement. "But he could not sustain it on his own. The bottom line is had they (paramedics) gotten there earlier and had they been called right away, chances are he could have been revived."

Michael Jackson crypt gets thousands of sunflowers
May 14, 2010

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) — Sunflowers are now blooming outside Michael Jackson's crypt.

Grower Jason Levin on Friday delivered up to 2,000 sunflowers to the massive marble and concrete Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale.

Levin says he decided to donate the $3,000 to $5,000 worth of bright yellow flowers after hearing Lisa Marie Presley complained there were only a few bouquets, candles and gifts surrounding the tomb. And Levin heard sunflowers were the late pop star's favorite.

Levin, the owner of The Sunflower Guy in San Diego County, loaded up a truck and left Vista at dawn. Three hours later, he was unloading the flowers outside the heavily guarded mausoleum. Forest Lawn officials told him they would take them inside.

Jackson died at age 50 on June 25.

Michael Jackson ''killed himself with Propofol'' claims defense

Los Angeles, Dec 30 (PTI) Michael Jackson killed himself with Propofol; that is the latest claim to have emerged from the trial of Dr Conrad Murray, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter in relation to the King of Pop''s shocking death more than a year ago.

Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney David Walgren claimed lawyers for Murray, the personal physician of the ''Thriller'' hitmaker, plan to use the theory as the main part of his defense.

Walgren''s statement came at a hearing yesterday where a lawyer for Murray, 42, clashed with the prosecutor over who should test residue from two syringes found in Jackson''s bedroom, reported TMZ.

"I do think it''s clear the defense is operating under the theory that the victim, Michael Jackson, killed himself.
They don''t want to say it but that''s the direction in which they are going," said Walgren.

Defense attorney J Michael Flanagan said a huge amount of the anaesthetic Propofol was found in Jackson''s body, but his client has said he gave him only 25 milligrams of the drug.

Walgren said the defense will claim Jackson killed himself by injecting more of the drug into himself after the star woke up while his physician was out of the room for two minutes in the toilet and administered a lethal dose of the drug himself.

Reports in the US have suggested that the doctor''s lawyers will argue that the singer injected Propofol himself using an intravenous drip, causing a massive heart attack.
He then supposedly dropped the bottle on the floor. When the doctor came back into the room he tried CPR in a desperate attempt to revive Jackson.

An autopsy later showed the heart attack was caused by a fatal dose of Propofol, a drug Jackson used to help with his chronic insomnia.

A preliminary hearing in the case begins next Tuesday when Judge Michael Pastor will decide whether the prosecution has a strong enough case to support the charge that Murray was criminally responsible for Jackson''s death in June 2009.

As many as 30 witnesses are expected to be called during the two week hearing.

Discovery Channel: Jackson Autopsy Show Postponed
Discovery Channel says show purporting to re-enact Michael Jackson's autopsy is postponed
December 31, 2010

Discovery Channel International has indefinitely postponed the broadcast of a show purporting to re-enact Michael Jackson's autopsy, the company announced Friday.

The company cited the start of hearings next week in the criminal case against Jackson's doctor and a request by the late superstar's estate as reasons for the postponement.

John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of Jackson's estate, accused Discovery of insensitivity toward the singer's family in a letter Wednesday demanding that the company cancel plans for the program.

They said they were especially outraged by an Internet ad for the show, "Michael Jackson's Autopsy," which they described as depicting a corpse on a steel gurney covered by a sheet with a hand sticking out wearing Jackson's signature sequined glove.

Branca and McClain said Friday in a statement that Discovery seemed to be reacting to outrage from Jackson fans, in addition to their own criticisms.

"Discovery Channel made the correct decision in choosing to cancel this exploitative program. We are hopeful that this show will never run in any market in the future," they said.

The company's decision was first reported by celebrity website TMZ.com.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin Tuesday for Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who is charged with involuntary manslaughter, after which a judge will decide if there is sufficient evidence to hold Murray for trial.

The singer died on June 25, 2009, of what was later found to be acute Propofol intoxication, with other sedatives found to have been a contributing factor.

Preliminary hearing begins for Michael Jackson's physician
January 4, 2010

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Dr. Conrad Murray waited at least 21 minutes after he found pop star Michael Jackson unresponsive before calling for an ambulance, a prosecutor said at the start of Murray's preliminary hearing Tuesday.

"By all accounts, Michael Jackson was dead in the bedroom at 100 North Carolwood prior to the paramedics' arrival," said Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney David Walgren.

Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine, sister La Toya, and brothers Randy and Jackie sat in the second row of the courtroom during Tuesday's opening session.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor will hear testimony over the next two weeks as he decides whether there is probable cause to try Murray on an involuntary manslaughter charge in the pop star's June 25, 2009, death.

The coroner concluded Jackson died from "acute propofol intoxication," in combination with "the contributory effects of the benzodiazepines," Walgren said.
Propofol is a powerful anesthetic used to "put people under for surgery," and the benzodiazepines were sedatives Murray later acknowledged giving Jackson in the morning before his death, he said.

"Michael Jackson was preparing for one of the most important tours of his life" in the months before his death, Walgren said.

Murray's defense team has hinted it would argue that Jackson was under pressure from the concert promoter, which led him to demand treatments to help him sleep.

Defense attorney Ed Chernoff declined to make an opening statement Tuesday.

Kenny Ortega, who directed Jackson's comeback "This Is It" concerts, was the first of about 30 witnesses to be called by the prosecution.

Ortega described Jackson as "involved, active, participating" at his last rehearsal, which ended just 12 or 14 hours before the singer died.

"He was in a delightful mood and we had an absolutely fantastic day," Ortega testified.

But Ortega described a different, "scary" Michael Jackson at the Staples Center rehearsal on June 19, six nights before his death.

"I just felt that he appeared, you know, really lost," Ortega said. "It was scary. I didn't know what was wrong. I couldn't put my finger on it."

Ortega suggested to Jackson that he cut his rehearsal short and go home to rest.

He was called to a meeting at Jackson's home the next day, where he was "scolded" by Murray for having sent Jackson home the night before, Ortega said.

"Dr. Murray told me that this was not my responsibility and he asked me not to act like a doctor or psychologist," he said.

Ortega said it was an emotional meeting, but he denied yelling at Jackson. "It wasn't yelling," he said. "It was about caring."

"Michael said 'I know you love me and I know you care about me, but you don't have to worry. I'm fine,'" Ortega said. "It was Michael's voice that calmed me."

Randy Phillips, the CEO of concert promoter AEG Live, and Jackson manager Frank Dileo were at this meeting, along with Murray and Jackson, Ortega said.

A civil lawsuit filed last year by Michael Jackson's mother against AEG Live alleged that Phillips visited Jackson's home on June 18, 2009, to warn "that if Jackson missed any further rehearsals, they were going to 'pull the plug' on the show."

"AEG told Murray that he had to make sure Jackson got to rehearsals," Katherine Jackson's lawsuit charged.

The prosecutor told Judge Pastor that medical experts would testify that Murray, hired as Jackson's personal physican while he prepared for his concert tour, took "a number of actions" that "showed an extreme deviation from the standard of care."

These would include administering the anesthetic propofol in a home setting without proper monitoring. No medical equipment that could have monitored Jackson's pulse and breathing were found in the upstairs bedroom, Walgren said.

Murray used "ineffectual CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) with one hand while the patient was prone on a soft bed," he said. Using two hands with the patient prone on a hard surface is the proper method, he said.

The 20-minute delay in calling 911 for paramedics was contrary to standard care, he said.

When paramedics arrived, Murray failed to tell them about the propofol or other drugs given to Jackson that morning, Walgren said. That was contrary to standard care, he said. Murray also neglected to tell emergency room doctors who were trying to revive Jackson at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, he said.

Murray remains free on $75,000 bond.

Doc: Jackson dead before ER arrival

Testimony continues in Dr. Conrad Murray hearing

Published : Friday, 07 Jan 2011, 7:25 AM EST

ANTHONY McCARTNEY,AP Entertainment Writer
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Before paramedics wheeled Michael Jackson into the emergency room, Dr. Richelle Cooper was sure he was dead.

More than an hour of resuscitation efforts at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center didn't change her opinion — the King of Pop had died in the bedroom of his rented mansion.

Based on what Jackson's personal physician told her, though, she didn't quite know why.

Murray told her he had seen Jackson stop breathing and immediately started CPR, but prosecutors say that's not what happened. Instead, over three days and a dozen witnesses at a preliminary hearing, they have put forth a timeline in which Jackson died in the bedroom of his rented mansion and Murray delayed calling 911 to conceal his actions.

Cooper testified she authorized paramedics to pronounce Jackson dead at 12:57 p.m., but they declined at Murray's request and because of the singer's celebrity. After an ambulance ride trailed by paparazzi and more than an hour of efforts in the ER, Cooper officially pronounced Jackson dead at 2:26 p.m. on June 25, 2009.

She said that Murray never told her he had given Jackson the anesthetic propofol, which Cooper said she typically uses in the ER for patients with head trauma or serious injuries.

The Houston-based cardiologist charged in Jackson's death also didn't mention several other sedatives he administered, which Cooper said could have amplified the propofol's effects and caused Jackson to stop breathing before his heart stopped beating.

The testimony came during a multi-day preliminary hearing in which a judge will decide whether there is enough evidence for Murray to stand trial on an involuntary manslaughter charge. Murray, who has pleaded not guilty, faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

With Cooper and another UCLA doctor, prosecutors have elicited testimony from five witnesses who said Murray either never mentioned the all the drugs he had given Jackson, or tried to conceal them.

Paramedic Martin Blount, who also testified Thursday, said he saw Murray scoop up three vials of the painkiller lidocaine from the floor of Jackson's bedroom during resuscitation efforts. Blount said he was surprised to see the medications because Murray had told him that he hadn't given the singer any drugs.

Murray's attorney, Joseph Low IV, did not even question Blount's description of the lidocaine, although another defense attorney pointedly questioned the UCLA doctors about whether candid disclosures from the doctor would have saved Jackson.

Cooper said while it wouldn't have changed her efforts to revive Jackson, knowing that Murray had given the singer several sedatives and propofol would have added to her understanding of why the singer had died.

"I would be concerned particularly if there were other medications given, that it would lead to a respiratory arrest, which would lead to a cardiac arrest," Cooper said.

Nicole Alvarez, a girlfriend Murray called while riding in the ambulance to UCLA, has been ordered to appear in court on Friday. The hearing will also feature detectives, coroner's officials and experts on propofol's effects in the coming days.

Before the hearing is over, a judge may hear Murray's version of events as well, as he relayed them to police detectives three days after Jackson's death.

Deputy District Attorney David Walgren has said he will use Murray's statements and testimony to show that the 57-year-old's actions represented "an extreme deviation from the standard of care."

Jury selection begins in LA for Jackson doctor
As jury selection began Thursday in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, another, more complicated question became apparent: How will the judge shield jurors from the media circus that awaits, and help them do their duty?

Autopsy Images of Michael Jackson Allowed at Trial
April 21, 2011

Images of Michael Jackson in life and death will be shown to jurors at his doctor's trial, a judge ruled Thursday, after a prosecutor promised restraint while using autopsy photos that might upset the singer's family.

Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor also said he will allow prosecutors to screen segments of the concert movie "This Is It" for jurors in highly redacted form to show the pop star's mental and physical state in the days before his death.

Pastor said only two autopsy photos will be allowed of Jackson's body laid out on a coroner's examining table.

In one image, the singer is swathed in a hospital gown. In the other, he is nude, with portions of his anatomy obscured, prosecutors said.

"Although they are tragic, they are not gruesome or gory," Deputy District Attorney David Walgren said.

The defense had asked to bar autopsy photos, saying the images would inflame the passions of the jury.

Walgren, however, was adamant about the need to show Jackson's physical condition to bolster the prosecution claim that Jackson was healthy when he died of an overdose of the anesthetic propofol and other sedatives allegedly administered by defendant Dr. Conrad Murray.

"This is a homicide and we can't pretend it's not a homicide," Walgren said.

The judge agreed the photos were needed. He recalled testimony from the preliminary hearing in which witnesses said Jackson was exceedingly thin and one witness described him as looking like a hospice patient.

MJ Manslaughter Trial
Dr. Murray's Conduct
"Egregious and Unconscionable"

0906_conrad_murray_EX_01

A prosecution witness will testify ... Dr. Conrad Murray committed  "multiple egregious and unconscionable violations" in his treatment of Michael Jackson the day he died ... this according to documents obtained by TMZ.

Prosecutors filed the document because they want to shoot down the defense theory that MJ may have orally ingested the fatal dose of Propofol.

According to Dr. Steven Shafer, "There is a zero possibility that the propofol was orally ingested."

Dr. Shafer believes, "There is almost nothing in Murray's care of Michael Jackson that reflected the actions of a trained physician."

Judge Michael Pastor has not ruled on whether Dr. Shafer is qualified to testify about the oral ingestion of Propofol.  ::snipping2::
