I am still appalled that Misty only has a 7th grade education.....you would think that someone would have seen to it that Misty at least made it to highschool....I thought that was the law?.....it is really sad....

Very sad, and she probably thinks she has quite the catch with Ron.

This is an example of backwoods hillbilly culture (that I grew up in).  What is so very sad is that Misty is not motivated by important things like getting a public education.  That can be done with a motivated kid, even if the parents or family is not motivated, or are drugged out of their minds most the time.  Generally the teachers help out a lot in such situations to the extent they can, according to the kid's circumstances.

I highly doubt if truancy from school is followed up on in the backwoods.

I was shocked to find out that in 1983 they still used outhouses in Alabama....

Sunday TM had friends of TES bring horses for he and Ron to ride and talk.  He thought this would be good for Ronald.

What a nice thing to do.  These friends were l l/2 hours away but did this because they too felt Ronald needed an outlet.  These wonderful people have invited Ronald to come to their ranch and ride anytime he wants.

Thank God for compassionate people.

Does anyone have a problem with this statement but me? Surely this is a tactic that LE is using to cause division between the family?

I think that it is extremly odd that Ron had Misty call 911 instead of himself,he was tearing up the house looking for Haleigh ...okay....but we have all seen the house and it would take just a few minutes to run through there and look for her and could have been done while he was on the cell phone with 911....It sounded like to me that Misty was distracted from the 911 operator by him during the call. And then he hung up on them and when they called back it rang for awhile before he answered and they asked for Misty it sounded like she said that she didn't want to talk anymore?
Do I think that she is innocent no way no how but i think that he is involved in some way even if it is just after the fact.
You can see in the tv interviews that he is coaching her and she seems to be trying to remember what she is suppose to say.....and did not do very well so that was all we saw of her.
In my oppinion his behavior is just as odd as hers. He just knows how to say "I don't know I was at work" and I guess she was suppose to say " I don't know I was sleeping" but when she was asked additional questions that I guess she felt that she should know the answers to she tried to add to the story and it got way out of control.


This is also the only explanation that I can come up with for Ron's family defending Misty so much......There are a 1,000 things that could have happened ...someone followed her home etc but still it does not fit with either one of their behaviors......even if she can not remember some things about that night the things that she can remember should not change unless she remembers something that adds to her story and fits in correctly....

Does anyone else think that Ron was in on this in some way too????

Yes, and noted that currently no HaLeigh posters on the windows of the infamous Memaw's and that currently Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Cummings do not live in a trailer on Grandma Sykes property, as rumor would have it.

I spent most of the day at Riverfront Park on Saturday, August 15.  I arrived early enough to assist the family with setting up tents, decorating, and getting organized.  Crystal, Marie, and several other family members & friends, old and young were there to support the family and the event.

 

The turnout was fair.  Many generous internet friends from out of town sent school supplies to Marie’s home so we started out with several boxes before the event was opened.  Several generous donors stopped at the park throughout the day to bring their donations of school supplies.  One special visitor drove all the way from Tampa to deliver a gigantic rubbermaid container loaded with at least 40 lbs of school supplies. 

 

The most important goal……….getting Haleighs name and face in the media was accomplished.  Several media outlets visited throughout the day to take pictures, video, and conduct interviews with the family.

 

The first two media vans arrived around 12:00 noon.  Within 60 seconds of their arrival, Ron, Misty, Annette, and Teresa pulled into the park with Butterbean/Ron Jr. in tow.  They brought backpacks loaded with school supplies, which they dropped on the table.  Butterbean jumped out of the car and immediately ran to his mother.  He did not leave her side until he got back into the car with his father to leave.
 

After the Cummings dropped their school supplies, they proceeded to post signs advertising their own event, a balloon release around the perimeter of the park.   They spoke with the media as well.  After about 30-40 minutes it looked like it was going to rain.  The two media vans left and the Cummings left right after them.

 

Throughout the time the Cummings were at the park, an unmarked Palatka PD vehicle remained in the parking lot.  When they left, so did the police vehicle.

 

The school arrived around 4:30 to collect the donated supplies.  They were thankful and appreciative of the efforts of the family to help Haleigh’s classmates have what they need for school.

 

As to the general mood of the family, I have to admire Crystal, Marie and the rest of their family for their strength and positivity.  The event was similar to a family picnic, complete with friends stopping by to visit, fried chicken, children playing, cupcakes, some smiles, some tears and a great deal of love.  That this family can find something to smile and even laugh about is a testament to their resilience.  In spite of the obvious pain and the numerous questions, they remain positive that this case will be resolved in God’s time and they are confident that justice will be served.

 

Saturday is a day I will never forget.  Crystal, Marie, and their family & friends are people I will never forget.   

 

I must add that contrary to rumors being perpetrated on the internet, the family did not sell anything at the Haleigh’s Closet event.  T shirts with Haleigh’s face were worn by everyone who spent the day at the event,  however they were not offered for sale.  Nor were cash donations solicited at all throughout the day.

Curious (if true), but IIRC I believe the police were also at the PDM shift changes when Ron was fired, maybe this was just preemptive to stop any trouble before it started.

I think Tim Miller is a true hero and very compassionate, not quick to judge anyone.......that being said IIRC he said the same thing about the Anthony's on NG too in the first months.

IMO Ron is his own worst enemy and brings the majority (if not all) of the criticism on himself.

I agree, he sure did say the same early on in the Anthony case. He is a person that tries to see the best in people, which is an excellent trait, one that I wish that I had.
