Haleigh Cummings turns 6-years-old

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Today Haleigh Cummings turns 6-years-old. The little girl from Putnam County has been missing for more than 6 months now. In honor of her birthday, her father plans to release red and purple balloons with fliers including Haleigh's information attached.

Meanwhile, some members of her family will be in Orlando to hold a news conference with their new attorney Mark Nejame and Tim Miller the founder of Equusearch.

Balloon Release for Haleigh Cummings

WELAKA, FL -- Relatives of Haleigh Cummings held a balloon release in hopes of keeping the search for the missing girl alive.

About 100 family and friends released purple and red balloons, Haliegh's favorite colors, into the air to honor the 5-year-old. Monday is her 6th birthday.

Haleigh's family is asking for people across the country to print Haleigh's flyer from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children web site, put it in a balloon and release it Monday for a national balloon release. They ask that the balloons be released at 2:16 p.m. which is the time she was born.

Haleigh's grandmother Teresa Neves told First Coast News she is hopeful the little girl will be returned to the family by her birthday on Monday. She even made a plea, asking anyone who has Haleigh to just "drop her off" somewhere safe on Monday.

Tim Miller, the founder of Texas Equusearch, a team that looks for missing children by horseback, said Haleigh's family reached out to him to start a new search for Haleigh. However, Miller could not release the date and location of the expected search.

Service For Haleigh's 6th Birthday
Balloons With Flyers Inside Released

WELAKA, Fla. -- The family of missing a missing Putnam County girl came together Sunday for a prayer service the day before Haleigh Cummings will turn six.

Haleigh's family held a service at the First Baptist Church in Welaka on Sunday. Afterward, they released red and purple balloons -- each one stuffed with a flyer of Haleigh's information.

Haleigh's family said they hope someone will see the flyer and be able to help police find her.

Haleigh's family also organized a birthday celebration for her on Monday afternoon.

They will gather at River Park in Putnam County and again release red and purple balloons with flyers attached at 2:16 p.m. -- exactly 12 hours after Haleigh was born.

Haleigh Cummings' father's family has asked Mark NeJame to help them.

Teresa Neves, Haleigh's paternal grandmother, said they asked NeJame for help because he has worked with Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch and because "we hear he's very good."

Neves told First Coast News they hope NeJame will help them get Haleigh's name back out in the media.
