I have believed from the beginning that Misty knows more than she is telling, but she is not alone. If you look back on the early interviews on Greta and others Ron is clearly coaching her. When asked how far apart the two beds were, she says three inches and Ron corrects her and says "no, three feet." He also tells her to look at the camera, to speak up,etc. IMO, LE is putting pressure on the weakest link, Misty. They know she will not take the fall for this alone and hope she will tell what she knows. If they can isolate and detain her she will talk. There is no way Misty keeps silent to save Ron at her own expense. LE knows this and the next few days are going to be interesting. This sweet child deserves to be found and the perpetrators punished! an angelic monkey

Haleigh Investigation Focuses On Misty Croslin
Girl's Birthday Marked With Balloon Release

POSTED: 7:08 pm EDT August 16, 2009
UPDATED: 6:02 pm EDT August 17, 2009

SATSUMA, Fla. -- Investigators said they are focusing on one key person in the search for 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings.

A candid update to the investigation into Haleigh's death from her Satsuma home last February
was released on the girl's sixth birthday. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said that the work they have done so far minimizes the likelihood that Haleigh's disappearance is the work of a stranger.

Investigators said that evidence at the scene contradicts what the new bride, Misty Croslin-Cummings, of the girl's father, Ronald Cummings, has told them regarding the evening that Haleigh disappeared from her bed while she was in Croslin-Cummings' care.

Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's biological parents, have been publicly cleared in the investigation.

Meanwhile, the family invited the community to join the release by printing out a flier with Haleigh's picture on it, put it in a red or purple balloon and releasing it at 2:16 p.m. Monday.

Orlando attorney Make NeJame and Texas EqquSearch founder Tim Miller also announced they are teaming up to search for Haleigh. Miller said the search will take place in four to six weeks -- when he believes weather conditions and vegetation will be more conducive to finding the girl. The search has spanned thousands of acres of land to date, including all of the area near the Cummings' home. Aerial and underwater searches have also been conducted.

Miller said about 50 EquuSearch members and volunteers will conduct the search. The group has searched for the girl previously and also searched for Caylee Anthony.

So far in the search for Haleigh, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office has followed up on 4,000 leads. Several hundred informal interviews and 138 formal interviews have been conducted since the girl disappeared.

In a special report on WESH 2 News at 11, reporter Michelle Meredith hears from the Cummings family about the search for Haleigh.

They have been on my radar also and it is a KISS theory. I so hope it is true but these blogger guys have put out so much false info I find it hard to believe them without proof. I have prayed for Haleigh to come home safe and sound for so long. It would be such a miracle if that could happen tonight.

Good Morning All!

Haleigh's parents cleared; lawmen doubt babysitter

By Kristin Chambers
Published: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 1:54 AM EDT

Parents of Haleigh Cummings, the Satsuma kindergartner missing since February, have been cleared of suspicion in her disappearance, authorities said Monday.

But deputies said Misty Croslin-Cummings may still hold answers.

"The biological parents, Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield, are not considered to be suspects in the case," Lt. Johnny Greenwood said in a statement issued Monday. "Investigators believe that Misty Croslin-Cummings continues to hold important answers in the case," he said.

Croslin-Cummings told deputies she was babysitting Haleigh when she vanished. The 17-year-old married Ronald Cummings about a month after Haleigh disappeared.

Putnam County lawmen on Monday once again said they had doubts about Croslin-Cummings' accounts of what happened the night before the child was reported missing.

"She has failed to provide any sort of detailed accounting of the hours during the late evening and early morning of Haleigh's disappearance," Greenwood said. "Furthermore, physical evidence at the scene contradicts Misty's sketchy account of her evening activities."

The sheriff's office is asking the public's help to confirm Croslin-Cummings activities, Greenwood said.

"Any citizen with direct knowledge of Misty's activities during that evening or into the early morning is encouraged to report that information to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office," he said.

Attempts to reach Croslin-Cummings for comment were unsuccessful.

In the months since Haleigh vanished, investigators have followed more than 4,000 leads and conducted 138 formal interviews, as well as several hundred informal interviews with potential witnesses, authorities said.

"We are working diligently to find Haleigh have been from early the morning of Feb. 10," Sheriff Jeff Hardy said Monday. "This effort will not stop until she is found."

No trace of Haleigh has been found and no suspects have been identified by investigators.

"The evidence and investigatory effort has minimized the likelihood that Haleigh's disappearance is the work of a stranger," Greenwood said. "There is no specific individual whom investigators have identified as a person of interest."

A nationwide Amber Alert was issued for Haleigh, and searches involving helicopters, trained dogs, horseback and underwater teams explored areas surrounding the Cummings home in Satsuma.

Meanwhile, EquuSearch, a Texas-based equine search team, will conduct another search for Haleigh in four to six weeks.

Orlando attorney Mark NeJame and EquuSearch founder Tim Miller said they believe vegetation and weather conditions will be more conductive to finding the kindergartener.

About 50 EquuSearch members and volunteers will be conducting the search.

In Monday's statement, Greenwood also urged residents to beware of "untrue and unreliable claims and assumptions of many bloggers who claim to be knowledgeable in the case."

Greenwood also said anyone who assists the investigation must act legally, which appeared to be a reference to a South Florida bounty hunter who faces charges in Putnam County for apprehending and questioning an accused sex offender.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Balloons fly for Haleigh

By Julie Martin and Kristin Chambers
Published: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 1:54 AM EDT

On her sixth birthday, hundreds of red and purple balloons dotted Putnam County skies Monday in remembrance of missing child Haleigh Cummings.

Haleigh's paternal family asked the community to release the balloons at 2:16 p.m. to correspond with her 2:16 a.m. birth.

"It's very emotional," Annette Sykes, Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother, said. "But we've got hope and faith that she's alive."

Missing child fliers were attached to the balloons in hope that when a balloon lands, someone with information about Haleigh will see the flier and contact the police.

"Hopefully it gets reached by the right person and someone has the information, really good information, that will help find the child," said Melanie Wells, owner of Flowers by Melanie, the shop that took an order for the balloons. "Maybe something good will come of it. There's always hope."

Wells said a California woman ordered 125 balloons and asked Wells to attach the fliers. Helium in the balloons should last about four to five hours, she said.

"She's doing it because she's touched by what happened," Wells said.

Wells said 75 balloons were given to Haleigh's family and 51 were released in front of her shop. Wells said the 51st balloon was donated by one of her customers who wanted to participate in the balloon release.

At Riverfront Park, about 20 supporters were handed balloons as Louise Brock worked quickly to fill as many as possible.

Brock said she has seven grandchildre, and traveled from Georgia to help the family in the weekend events.

"If one of my grandchildren were missing I would want someone to help me find them," Brock said. "I'm praying she is alive just like your sheriff's office says she is."

Individuals standing before the St. Johns River released over 200 balloons, while others tried to unlock car doors in time to allow them to escape from a brimming vehicle.

Members of the Cummings family released about 100 balloons from their Welaka residence in a private ceremony.

"Ronald has been having a very hard time leading up to today," Sykes said. "It just gets harder and harder every day."

Misty Cummings the focus of investigation
Haleigh's parents not named suspects

By DANA TREEN  |   More by this reporter  |  Morris News Service  |   Posted: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 ; Updated: 11:53 PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2009

On the day marking Haleigh Cummings' sixth birthday, authorities said the 17-year-old woman who last saw the Putnam County kindergartner is the primary focus of their investigation.

Physical evidence contradicts where Misty Cummings -- then Misty Croslin -- told detectives she was when the girl vanished, according to a news release Monday from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. In what are their most detailed comments so far, investigators also said Haleigh's biological parents are not considered suspects in the six-month disappearance.

"It's about time," Greenwood said about the decision to provide more detail about where the investigation is headed. "We really need the truth, we need to know what happened that night." Cummings, who was 16 when Haleigh vanished and has since married her father, "has failed to provide any sort of detailed accounting of the hours during the late evening and early morning of Haleigh's disappearance," according to the statement Monday.

"Furthermore, physical evidence at the scene contradicts Misty's sketchy account of her evening activities," the statement said.

She was living with Ronald Cummings and two of his children in Satsuma and was the one who called the Sheriff's Office after 3 a.m. on Feb. 10 to report Haleigh missing. Cummings had come home from a late shift at a Palatka plant about the time the call was made.

"She either won't or can't account for what she was doing," Greenwood said.

She has told investigators she was alone with the children that night.

"She is the person who has to know what happened," he said.

Authorities will not say what evidence contradicts what they were told in interviews, but Greenwood said there was no sign of forced entry to the mobile home where Haleigh disappeared.

He said it is also clear that Haleigh was not prone to wander off in the middle of the night.

Detectives have interviewed the couple and Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, who has been estranged from Cummings for several years. Cummings has custody of Haleigh and their son Ronald Cummings Jr.

Detectives have conducted 138 formal interviews and hundreds of informal ones, according to the department. Greenwood would not say how many hours or how many times Misty Cummings was interviewed. She told the Times-Union she recalled one early interview lasting as long as eight hours.

Ronald Cummings' mother said she does not believe her daughter-in-law has misled investigators. Misty Croslin has a seventh-grade education, Teresa Neves said and should not be able to fool interrogators that have included FBI agents.

"She feels they are not being fair to her," Neves said Monday.

Neves said she was glad suspicion was lifted from her son and that detectives should continue to interview anyone who they believe holds information that will help the case, including her daughter-in-law.

"I say more power to them," Neves said. "Anybody who can actually be tied to this they ought to bring in and keep them until they get the answers."

Orlando lawyer Mark NeJame, who has worked on the high-profile Caylee Anthony case, said Monday he has met with Neves and the Cummings family to work on focusing public attention on Haleigh. NeJame also has worked with EquuSearch, a search group that specializes in missing children and was involved with both the Anthony and Cummings cases.

EquuSearch founder Tim Miller said Monday he will bring a team back to Putnam to rework areas that were searched in the past. He said he will wait until summer growth has died, which will make searching easier.

Greenwood said thousands of acres have already been searched, but investigators spoke with Miller on Monday and welcome his help trying to locate Haleigh.

"The areas that we felt needed to be searched have been searched," he said.

"We'll welcome them back."

Investigators say dad's new wife is key to cracking case
Putnam officials no longer believe the missing girl was taken by a stranger

By Lise Fisher
Staff writer

Published: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 6:30 a.m.
Last Modified: Monday, August 17, 2009 at 10:56 p.m.

GAINESVILLE - Marking the sixth birthday of a missing Putnam County girl, investigators made it clear Monday who they consider key to breaking the case: the former girlfriend and now wife of Haleigh Cummings' father.

Investigators also said they no longer think the girl was taken by a stranger.

When Haleigh vanished in early February, Misty Croslin-Cummings said she was alone with the girl and the child's younger brother at the home of the children's father, Ronald Cummings, in southern Putnam County. She said she awoke in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and realized the girl was missing.

At the time, Cummings was at work. He returned home to discover his little girl had vanished, prompting a frantic call to law enforcement.

After multiple interviews over the past six months with Haleigh's family, including Croslin-Cummings, the Sheriff's Office bluntly stated officers' beliefs about the case for the first time since Haleigh disappeared.

"Investigators believe that Croslin-Cummings continues to hold important answers in the case. She has failed to provide any sort of detailed accounting of the hours during the late evening and early morning of Haleigh's disappearance. Furthermore, physical evidence at the scene contradicts Misty's sketchy account of her evening activities," the Sheriff's Office reported in a statement.

"Any citizen with direct knowledge of Misty's activities during that evening or into the early morning is encouraged to report that information to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office," the news release stated.

Contrary to initial comments from officers that Haleigh possibly was abducted, the Sheriff's Office reported that evidence gathered so far doesn't support that theory.

"At this point, the evidence and investigatory effort has minimized the likelihood that Haleigh's disappearance is the work of a stranger," the statement reported.

And the agency said Haleigh's biological parents, Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield, are not considered suspects.

Croslin-Cummings could not be reached Monday for comment.

Teresa Neves, Haleigh's paternal grandmother, said, "We are very happy that they finally cleared Ronald as a suspect."

As for her daughter-in-law, she said the family loved Misty and believed she loved the children. But as for why the Sheriff's Office chose to issue these comments, she said she would leave that to police and an attorney.

Cummings married his girlfriend, then 17, in mid-March.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Johnny Greenwood said law enforcement's concerns about Croslin-Cummings and the information she has provided to investigators are not new. "It's not been a secret the whole way through that she's made inconsistent statements. We're just letting the facts out there," Greenwood said. "We've known since day one that she wasn't telling us everything."

Greenwood would not elaborate on what parts of Croslin-Cummings' statements officers are concerned about except that some interviews she gave to news media early in the investigation included inconsistent statements such as details on where Haleigh was placed to sleep that night.

Cummings and his wife have been involved in recent incidents indicating problems within their family.

Putnam County deputies arrested Cummings on Aug. 6 on a charge of burglary with assault or battery after he was accused of hitting his brother-in-law, Hank Croslin Jr. Croslin told officers that the fight occurred after his sister contacted her family and said she didn't want to stay at home with her husband any longer.

Cummings, however, signed affidavits saying his brother-in-law and father-in-law were the aggressors, the Sheriff's Office reported.

Last week, deputies also reported they investigated whether Cummings put a headless rat in Croslin's mailbox. Cummings denied placing the rodent.

Greenwood said investigators don't think the incidents are related to Haleigh's case.

But, he said, "If it takes them not getting along to get the truth, so be it."

Also on Monday, EquuSearch, a Texas-based search group that had helped look for Haleigh when she first disappeared, announced it would conduct another search for the girl.

About 50 members and volunteers are supposed to conduct the search that founder Tim Miller said would take place in four to six weeks.

Haleigh Cummings' 6th Birthday Observed
2009-8-17 by: Lt. Johnny Greenwood

Today marks Haleigh Cummings’ sixth birthday, and a little over six months into the investigation of her disappearance. Sheriff Hardy’s interest in the public’s desire to bring Haleigh home, have led him to release the following update on the investigation.

Investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and investigators from agencies throughout Florida have invested thousands of man-hours into the investigation thus far.

Here are some of the facts:

We have received in excess of 4,000 leads, all of which have been followed up.
We have conducted 138 formal interviews and several hundred informal interviews with potential witnesses. DNA samples were collected from many of those interviewed and compared to evidence collected in the case.
FDLE processed the crime scene. Many items of potential evidentiary value were collected and sent to FDLE’s crime lab for analysis (ie. for fingerprints and DNA). All of evidence has been examined and/or processed, but none of it has identified any suspect or additional leads as to who the suspect(s) may be.
We have searched thousands of acres, including all property west of Highway 17 near the Cummings residence.
We have had numerous underwater recovery and search teams search all of the water near the area of the disappearance.
Aviation assets have conducted several airborne searches.
K9 assets have searched the area on several occasions.
Volunteer civilian searchers on foot and horseback searched the wooded areas near the residence.

At this point, the evidence and investigatory effort has minimized the likelihood that Haleigh’s disappearance is the work of a stranger. There is no specific individual whom investigators have identified as a person of interest. The biological parents, Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield, are not considered to be suspects in the case. Investigators believe that Misty Croslin-Cummings continues to hold important answers in the case. She has failed to provide any sort of detailed accounting of the hours during the late evening and early morning of Haleigh’s disappearance. Furthermore, physical evidence at the scene contradicts Misty’s sketchy account of her evening activities. Any citizen with direct knowledge of Misty’s activities during that evening or into the early morning is encouraged to report that information to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Hardy realizes the importance of keeping the public involved in this case, and appreciates all of the leads that have been provided. Every lead that is provided is acted on by investigators. Sheriff Hardy cautions that because there are many who claim to be valid media outlets, that citizens should be careful not to fall into the trap of believing, or by accident spreading, the untrue and unreliable claims and assumptions of many bloggers who claim to be knowledgeable in the case. He also urges anyone that is assisting, or who wants to assist, to be cautious to stay within the bounds of their authority as they pursue their activities.

Sheriff Hardy wants to assure the public, but mainly Haleigh’s family, that we will continue to aggressively pursue this case and that we welcome the assistance of all Law Enforcement agencies or any other expert, including air, water, and ground searchers,  that can assist in bringing Haleigh home.

morning all..

slowly slowly the truth will be coming out...the wheels are turning against Misty...Teresa is breaking ranks with Ron/Misty, especially Misty imo...she wants the truth about Haleigh no matter who may be involved imo...Misty will begin to crack as soon as Granny Sykes gets on board with Teresa if she hasn't already, then that only leaves Ron...I think that if his mother and Granny start talking against Misty, he will turn on her also...time will tell....they need to put pressure on Misty to tell the darn truth for Haleigh's sake! I don't know what took them so long to see through Misty...Remember, she had been fairly new to the family when Haleigh went missing...she was on her best behavior and was presenting herself as the "best little step mommy to be" in order to get the approval of both grannies who have a lot of influence in Ron's life I feel....the grannies thought that Misty was wonderful to the children and therefore, they accepted her into their family...Now they are having second thoughts..( finally!) all my own opinions

HaLeigh~you are loved and in God's loving arms

remember when Cobra said that Ron was at the convience store about 2:30 and was suppose to have been talking to some girl in  the parking lot ? did anyone ever say who that girl was????

Cobra says a lot of stuff. I was annoyed with him on Sunday in his attempt to belittle Tim Miller, plus when he named lady friends of Tim.

It only showed the sleaziness of Cobra.
I didn't hear that, I wondered what was being said, what does that have to do with anything I wonder? Why would he even bring info like that up, maybe he is jealous.

I was disgusted with that show on Sunday.. Every week all sorts of stories just throwing crap out there... They can't even get some of the facts correct..Cobra making smart remarks about Tim.. Then Simon's comment :The question in my mind, and it has been there for many months, is Tim Miller all he says he is? Who the heck is he to question this man with a heart  who has a track record for finding the missing....

Then this from Simon...It was not till the end of the program that Tim Miller entered the story, but it is worth listening to. This might just want to make you rethink your next contribution! This might not make BNN popular, but one has to report it as it is told.

I don't need to rethink where my contributions will go... Tim Miller will certainly get my contributions...

God Bless Haleigh... an angelic monkey

I'm with you JG~I NEVER listen to BNN after one time I heard all the silly giggling going on in the background with Ms Pickles during the Caylee case, that did it for me! But, I'm also with you on that this pizzed me off so much that I will be mailing another donation to TES just to show how counterproductive it is to try and disparage a man when all they do is offer their silly crap over the air and I've yet to hear about Simon, Jan or Ms Pickles out searching like TM and the members of TES. They absolutely disgust me
