She says Lindsey argued with her brother on her way to a friend's house Friday night. She talked to her friend for a bit, then started for home as darkness fell.

The friend's father, Scott Williams, said he asked Lindsey to go home before it got too dark.

"She was here 10, 15 minutes, and then, you know, we said, 'You should probably get going before it gets dark,' and that was the last we heard of her," he said.

Witnesses say Lindsey seemed normal as she headed out around 9:15. Another friend even walked her part of the way, but Lindsey never showed up at her home

I wonder how old her brother is. Is this the same brother she is happy was heading to juvie on her myspace?

Janet - with the younger kids, their Myspaces are actually easier to find.  Usually they aren't smart enough to use a fake name when they register.

Thanks Klaas

I know my 11 year old grandson has been talking about MySpace so he can communicate with his friends.  Mom and Dad have talked to him explained why they will not afford him the  priviledge at this time and ... he is none too happy.  The same goes with some type of online chat.

Believe me ... the computer is a big reason I would not want to be raising kids today.  It is such a balancing act in determining how far to let out the reins in some areas.

Janet

I'm affraid where there's a will the kids will find a way.

You are right.

My grandson was at a friend's home last week ... a friend whose parents have the same expections as my daughter and SIL.  While the mother of friend was on another level of the house these two kids proceeded to play an on-line video game they both knew was not allowed.  Anyways ... the friend's mother caught them in the act and ... proceeded to inform my daughter.  My daughter was thankful.  There were consequnece for my grandson but also the incident provided an opportunity for review lesson in regards to the issue of trust.  Grandson hates those review lessons.

Looks like family and friends are all over the internet getting the word out.  Good thing since she didn't meet the Amber Alert criteria:

Good question Pink Angel.  First thing I wondered is if the brother actually ended up in Juvie.  If this is the same brother then it doesn't appear so.

Why was there not an immediate Amber alert.  Even when all is considered ... Lindsey is a ten year year old child.

That's a very good thing. It's so important to get her picture and name out there as quickly as possible.

She is a beautiful girl. If she was taken, it's not going to end well or may never end for the family.

Janet,
Amber Alerts have certain criteria that must be met before one is issued.
This didn't meet that criteria.

It sucks. I think the criteria needs to be changed. Any child under 12 there should be some kind of National Alert sounded, to get their name and picture out there...immediately. jmo

Probably thought he was going or that the judge would rule that way?  Or he didn't have to stay but a day or two? I would like to know more about the brother though.

Do you think LE is aware of these myspace pages? She could have made them at a friends house and they might not be aware. Kid's that age are sneaky and like you said "where there is a will, there is a way."

FBI helping with case of missing McCleary girl

04:20 PM PDT on Sunday, June 28, 2009

TRICIA MANNING-SMITH / KING 5 News

McCLEARY, Wash. - The FBI has been called in to help in the investigation into the disappearance of 10-year-old Lindsey Baum.

The McCleary girl was last seen Friday on Maple Street.

Michaela Campen is the last person known to have seen Lindsay. The girls were at Michaela's home around 9:30 Friday night, hoping Lindsay could sleep over.

"I told her you need to head home, it's getting dark soon, a half hour of light left.  She put on her shoes and headed home," said Kara Campen.

Lindsay was alone for that nearly half-mile walk.

Her mother called police shortly before 11:00 Friday night to report her missing.

"We're starting to think the worst because it has been two days now, with a small town if anybody knew anything they would have said something so there's a lot of despair," said family friend Melissa McCann.

Neither the family nor investigators believe 10-year-old Lindsay ran away.  They're checking ditches and byways, wondering if she fell victim to an accident, but ruling nothing out.

"The worst case scenario-she's the victim of foul play or some type of predator behavior," said Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott

Officers have contacted nearby registered sex offenders, revealing no clues.  Although there is no known evidence of a crime, the FBI has now joined multiple other agencies in the investigation.

The family says Lindsay argued with her older brother earlier in the day Friday and her parents recently divorced. But the family firmly believes neither was related to her disappearance.

Anyone with information is asked to call Grays Harbor E911 Center at 360-533-8765 or McCleary Police at 360-495-3107.

this is disturbing to say the least...a 10 yr old child walking that far alone and at night time? and a Myspace account at 10???? is there no parental blocks on that computer??? my feeling is that it is much too young to have a Myspace acct...children that age need to be supervised while on the computer I think....jmo....if that was my kid or grand child, I would have been on the phone to see where she was and I would have gone to pick her up..small town or not..
that Ben O. was kidnapped from a small country town by the same nutter who had Sean Hornbeck all those years...it can happen anywhere...parents need to be diligent in making sure that their children are watched and safe....especially nowadays...
I hope that this little girl is found safe...it is worrisome....

Sometimes kids go to other people's houses and use their computers to create and access myspace and other websites even if you have parental controls and forbid this at your own house.  Or they can go to the public library and use computers there.   Back to the old "where there's a will, there's a way" saying.  Parents may not even know their kids have a myspace.

this is very true! since I have grown kids and younger grand kids, I am probably a bit out of the loop on this stuff...thank God! and with so many latch key kids now a days...(is that still what they call kids who come home from school and stay by themselves while parents are at work?) perhaps they can do their computerizing then as well? Perhaps her parents didn't even know that she had a myspace acct? could very well be...

While I agree that there is only so much parents can do if kids are determined to defy parental expectation when outside the home environment but ...  ... parents can do something other than just throwing up their hands and affording children open access to sites that are not beneficial for their well-being.  Parents are the adult and children deserve protection.  Children do not always appreciate or understand the established boundares but ... for crying out loud ... they are children.  Who is in charge. As the song goes "Love is not a feeling ... it is the act of the will".

1.  Place computer in a central location in the home.
2.  Create blocks.
3.  Establish and follow through with consequences for chosing to disregard expectations.
4.  Check history/cookies daily.
5.  Check expectations of friends' parents.
