I did a search for RSO's and there are only two within 2 miles.  Should be easy for police to interview them in a hurry.

KaraK my heart goes out to you and to Lindsey's family. It sounds like a lovely small town, I come from a small town, one doesn't expect bad things to happen, one feels safe in their environment, and I'm sure that is how the neighbors all felt, safe. My thoughts and prayers  an angelic monkey

When using the Grays Harbor Offenders Portal I found one more that did not come up in the 2 mile search.  There are 138 offenders in Grays Harbor with 14 of them being non-compliant in registering their addresses so who knows where they are.

Search intensifies for missing McCleary girl

McCLEARY, Wash. - Grays Harbor sheriff's deputies intensify their search for a 10-year-old McCeary girl missing for more than two days.

Ten-year-old Lindsey Baum was last seen 9:15 p.m. Friday when she left her friend's house for a walk on Maple Street.

On Sunday, the FBI joined the search, helping the sheriff's department stop every car driving through the main part of town to see if anyone knows anything.

The sheriff's department says search teams will be back out Monday to search for Lindsey, this time enlisting the use of a helicopter. They will also bring back K-9 units because they know with more than 48 hours since Lindsey disappeared, time is of the essence.

me: now they are worried about time? ::shakes head::

"I just want her back. I just I need her back," said Melissa Baum, Lindsey's mother.

Lindsey's friend, Michaela Campen, is the last person known to have seen her. The girls were at Michaela's home Friday night, hoping Lindsey could sleep over.

"I told her you need to head home, it's getting dark soon, a half hour of light left.  She put on her shoes and headed home," said Kara Campen, Michaela's mother.

Lindsey was alone for that nearly half-mile walk.

Her mother called police shortly before 11:00 Friday night to report her missing.

"We're starting to think the worst because it has been two days now, with a small town if anybody knew anything they would have said something so there's a lot of despair," said family friend Melissa McCann.

Neither the family nor investigators believe 10-year-old Lindsay ran away.  They're checking ditches and byways, wondering if she fell victim to an accident, but ruling nothing out.

"The worst case scenario-she's the victim of foul play or some type of predator behavior," said Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott

Officers have contacted nearby registered sex offenders, revealing no clues.  Although there is no known evidence of a crime, the FBI has now joined multiple other agencies in the investigation.

The family says Lindsey argued with her older brother earlier in the day Friday and her parents recently divorced. But the family firmly believes neither was related to her disappearance.

Anyone with information is asked to call Grays Harbor E911 Center at 360-533-8765 or McCleary Police at 360-495-3107.

this is astounding...a small town ...our children are not safe anywhere...parents are going to have to realize this...and what a shame that this is the case...our children should be able to walk our streets no matter where they live and not have to worry about sex offenders and kidnappers...
stuff like this does not happen in Japan...my husband goes there a lot for business...women walk around all alone at any time, light, dark without fear of being raped or molested...why? because Japan and other countries do not tolerate child molesters or rapists, murderers...they are severely punished...that being said, I am sure that Japan and other areas  have their own other problems that the USA does not have! We really need to get control of the SO s taking over our streets...jmo...and this does not mean that a SO has Lindsey...just that there are too many in her area for that small of a town imo....

These are only the identified ones. There are plenty of sickos out there who have never been caught.

Search for missing McCleary girl gets national attention

Story Updated: Jun 29, 2009 at 7:27 AM PDT
By KOMO Staff

MCCLEARY, Wash. - Dozens of volunteers are taking back to the streets and woods of this small Grays Harbor County town for a third day in search for a 10-year-old girl who vanished Friday while walking home from a friend's house.

They'll be joined by FBI agents who are lending their expertise and experience in solving missing children cases. The FBI also will be bringing in more law enforcement personnel to assist.

Lindsey J. Baum was last seen between 9 and 10 p.m. Friday when she left her friend's home on Maple Street, where she had been visiting, said Dave Pimentel of the Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office.

Lindsey was going to walk the four blocks to her home on Mommsen Road, which is roughly a 10-minute walk. But something happened in that short distance - Lindsey never arrived home.

Her mysterious disappearance has left police, family - along with the whole town - affled and concerned at the girl's disappearance in a town of 1,550 where everyone knows their neighbors.

The search is going national online as Lindsey's information is now on the front page of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children web site.

A wide-ranging search was launched early Saturday in the town and the surrounding forests. The town was criss-crossed three times, but not a trace of Lindsey has been found. Even bloodhounds failed to pick up her scent.

Three times as many people joined the search on Sunday and many more were expected Monday, as they scour areas that weren't checked earlier.

Police are hesitant to call the girl's disappearance a case of foul play just yet, but the girl's family fears the worst.

"I've tried to keep the thought of somebody grabbing her out of my mind," her mother, Melissa Baum, said Sunday.

She says Lindsey argued with her brother on her way to a friend's house Friday night. She talked to her friend for a bit, then started for home as darkness fell.

The friend's father, Scott Williams, said he asked Lindsey to go home before it got too dark.

"She was here 10, 15 minutes, and then, you know, we said, 'You should probably get going before it gets dark,' and that was the last we heard of her," he said.

Witnesses say Lindsey seemed normal as she headed out around 9:15. Another friend even walked her part of the way, but Lindsey never showed up at her home.

"I want to think that everything's OK, but there's a part of me that thinks the worst," Williams says.

Now hope has turned to anxiety and alarm among frustrated search teams. The mother is also at a loss.

She says her daughter is upset about her recent divorce, but doesn't have money to run away - and has never tried to run away before. Her mom doubts at this point that Lindsey is trying to hide.

"If somebody does have her, I wish they would just drop her off somewhere where she can get to a pay phone and call 911 or call home, so that we can come and get her," she says, sobbing.

Melissa McCann, a family friend, said, "This is a small town. These things don't happen. And yet here they are. She comes from her friend's (house) a lot, so it doesn't make sense that she didn't show up at home. We're just baffled."

Lindsey's father lives in Tennessee. Police have contacted him, and he's not suspected of any involvement in Lindsey's disappearance.

Pimentel said it's strange that nobody saw anything unusual.

"Such a small community like this - you can't do much in a town this size without everybody knowing about it," he said. "Everybody in town knows she's unaccounted for."

Lindsey was last seen wearing a gray or blue hooded pullover sweatshirt, with blue jeans and black shoes. She has brown eyes, brown hair, and stands about 4-feet-9-inches and weighs about 80 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Grays Harbor 911 Center at (800) 281-6944 or the McCleary Police Department at (360) 495-3107.

Thanks so much hon! I am finding it disturbing how they are not keeping it updated with addresses and photos. And if these people are suppose to register and are not....why are they not back in jail?

No enforcement. These laws were put in place to protect the community and inform the community. You can have all the laws in the world against these monsters but if they are not funded or enforced, the laws are not worth the paper they are printed on.

A few comments regarding previous posts:

As far as the walking home at night contrary to what many think at the time Lindsey went missing it was still quite light out side as has been attested to by local police.

The bottom picture of Kayla - No that is not a mattress on the floor it is a pillow and the pic was taken at a girlfriends house when they were hanging out watching movies.

As for Lindsey's Myspace it was a kid (a friend) of Lindsey's that wrote the "I'm on Lindsey's myspace that is cool" as for the mood that is not what everyone appears to think it is it had been set to that previously in reference to a water war the kids all had. So nothing funny there.

Both girls are not suppose to be accessing Myspace but as of yet that is one site that has not been blocked from all public library computers or all of their friends homes.

- Lastly, I believe the basis of this forum is suppose to be supportive not trying to throw blame but instead provide support and to also discuss ways of trying to get the missing home safely. I understand sometimes trying to dig out information and hopefully leads and ideas means sometimes hitting where it hurts but please remember that above all else - There Is a Child Missing

It was my house that she left and no one can change the fact that I did not walk her home regardless of how light it was outside and that guilt eats me alive and haunts me every minute that ticks by. I wish it would have been dark out when she left because then I would have walked her home and we would not be here right now. If I could change things I would in a heartbeat but I can't now. As for Lindsey's mom she does not have a car but when she did Lindsey never had to walk home in the dark and she wouldn't, her mom was always right there to pick her up. What ifs do nothing more then make a tough situation more difficult for those of us who love Lindsey and they won't help bring her home...

What if...
One of the 2000 McCleary residents would have been outside and seen her
I had walked her home
I had let her stay the night
someone close had a car
it was one minute earlier/later
it was five minutes later/earlier
it was dark outside when she left
she had been walking with someone
police would have been patrolling that area
every sicko out there wasn't allowed a second chance
she had remembered to bring her phone
the police would have called in help before 12 hours had passed

Welcome KaraK.  We at SM are praying along with you, Lindsey's family and the rest of the community that Lindsey returns home safely.
