Yes, give me a couple moments.  It takes more than just a move, I have to create a new "board".

Missing girl's mother: 'Let her go'

02:38 PM PDT on Thursday, July 2, 2009

A search is under way in the town of McCleary for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum.

McCLEARY, Wash. - If a stranger kidnapped 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, her mother says the girl would have put up a fight.

“She has very long fingernails,” said Melissa Baum. “Her brother is proof enough of that.”

Melissa Baum’s daughter vanished while walking home from a friend’s house in McCleary last Friday night.

Detectives said it’s possible the girl ran away, but after almost six days, they said it’s more likely she was abducted, perhaps by someone she knew.

Melissa Baum said she’s confident her daughter did not run away.

“She’s a mommy’s girl, she couldn’t be away from me that long,” said Melissa Baum.

Lindsey’s mother also said her daughter is too smart to be tricked by a stranger to get in their car.

“I joke that she’s 10 going on 16,” said Melissa Baum.

Melissa Baum said her daughter loves to read and write. She was working on a play.

Lindsey also loved animals. Melissa said Lindsey’s pet German Shepherd Cadence has been acting depressed since Lindsey vanished.

“That dog was her pillow,” said Melissa Baum.

Grays Harbor County scaled back volunteer search and rescue efforts Thursday.

“We’re not ending it, we’re just temporarily suspending it,” said Undersheriff Rick Scott.

Scott said most of Thursday’s work was conducted by detectives following up on tips and interviewing potential witnesses.

Lindsey Baum, 10, disappeared Friday from the small town of McCleary.

Melissa Baum said all she can do is wait by the phone for a call from police or Lindsey.

Lindsey’s mother believes her daughter is still alive, but said that is getting harder to do.

"I don't know if they're taking care of her or if they have her locked up somewhere," said Melissa Baum."They just need to let her go, let her come home."

Scott also is urging people to report any unusual behavior that might point to an abductor, such as suddenly cutting or dyeing hair, an unexplained absence from work or cuts or bruises on the arms and face.

Lindsey is 4-foot-9, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.

Investigators say both Lindsey's mom and the father of the friend at the home where Lindsey had just left have both voluntarily taken - and passed - polygraph tests, and they are not considered suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call the hotline that has been set up. The number is 1-866-915-8299 or e-mail detectives at: soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us .

Look at that smile! What a cutie!
I am praying for Lindsey. That she is found safe and soon.

well I personally just can't figure out where that parcel actually is and where the creek is, and right now I really have to get back to something I was doing about people in the case, so I will go do that for now and hopefully someone can figure out exactly where that is.  I looked on all kinds of different maps and it shows no real water.

maybe Kara can get on here and just point it out for us.

one thing that is weird to me though.  IF the dogs trailed her up 6th, and that is the way to the creek(the parcel is listed with a 6th street address) then why in the world if it is almost dark, would Lindsey be heading to the creek.

if they searched that property 6 times, why?  did the dogs actually trail her to that creek?

I don't know, but this is really bothering me

LOL neither can I.  Unless I did a bad overlay of the top map, I do not think that there is a creek there OR it is so small it does not show up?

Me too, something is way off here. And Janet the article and sentence you bumped, that sentence is very troubling to me, the first time I read that.

I will go out on a limb ... take a risk and ... speculate that authorities are following up on a tip.  Everything is too too quiet at the moment.

Then again ... maybe Tamikosmom was out in the sun too long this afternoon.

Search for missing McCleary girl ramps up

05:52 PM PDT on Friday, July 3, 2009

McCLEARY, Wash. - Investigators searching for a missing 10-year-old girl hope someone’s habits will help them find her.

Ten-year-old Lindsey Baum was last seen walking home from a friend’s house last Friday night around 9 p.m.

Exactly one week later, local police, Grays Harbor County deputies and officers from several surrounding communities will be in the streets of McCleary, in case a witness they haven’t spoken with happens to be in town.

Investigators hope to speak with someone who always stops in McCleary on Friday nights for a beer, or who works out of town during the week and has not been available to investigators.

“It’s going to look like a police convention is in town,” said Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott.
Undersheriff Scott said after Friday night’s increased patrols, the police presence in McCleary will drop off, mostly because of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Undersheriff Scott said deputies will be spread throughout the county policing parades, enforcing fireworks laws and patrolling for drunk drivers.

Yesterday Lindsey’s mother said iff a stranger kidnapped Lindsey Baum, the girl would have put up a fight.

“She has very long fingernails,” said Melissa Baum. “Her brother is proof enough of that.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the hotline that has been set up. The number is 1-866-915-8299 or e-mail detectives at: soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us .
