State prosecutors file formal charges against Casey Anthony

State prosecutors filed formal charges this afternoon against Casey Anthony, the mother of missing 2-year-old Caylee Marie.

Anthony, 22, was charged with child neglect, a third-degree felony, and filing a false statement, which is a misdemeanor. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison for the felony and a year for the misdemeanor.

The State Attorney’s Office issued the charges after reviewing the evidence and statements collected so far by detectives with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

“While the State understands the importance of this information to the community, this office does not want to create the type of publicity that would lead to a change of venue. Therefore, we will not comment further on the case itself,” in statement released by the State Attorney’s Office.

“Remember, these charges are only allegations and do not constitute a proof of guilt. Ms. Anthony has the right to a trial by jury and is cloaked with the presumption of innocence.”  Anthony has been held at the Orange County Jail since her arrest by detectives in July.  Also on this day, the State Attorney’s office sent an offer to Anthony’s attorney Jose Baez, to discuss the possibility of limited immunity.

Casey Anthony Is Accused Of Killing Her Daughter

ORLANDO, Fla. -- George Anthony, father of accused killer Casey Anthony, is scheduled to be questioned under oath Wednesday at the State Attorney's Office.

The deposition was expected Monday. Cindy Anthony and Lee Anthony were deposed last week.

Casey Anthony is jailed at the Orange County Jail on murder charges following the disappearance and slaying of her daughter, Caylee Anthony. Her remains were found near the Anthony's home in December after a long search.

George Anthony' was the last person to see Caylee alive on June 16, 2008.

Lee Anthony, Casey Anthony's brother, spent nine hours at the state attorney's office on Thursday. Cindy Anthony, Casey Anthony's mother, was deposed on July 29.

Family of missing Caylee Marie Anthony seeking personal assistants

Casey Anthony's family is asking the public again for help -- but this time to volunteer as personal assistants to the family.

The two un-paid positions, one person to help Lee Anthony and another to assist George Anthony, are being advertised by the family via their MySpace pages.

Volunteers must be available 24-hours a day, seven days a week and in some cases must be willing to travel.

George Anthony wants his personal assistant to coordinate volunteer efforts, which means checking emails, distributing fliers locally and nationally, and scheduling volunteers.

Lee Anthony's assistant is needed to travel within Orlando and possibly out of state, the ad states. Running errands, scheduling meetings, updating Web pages and answering emails are part of the job.

Both must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and work with "little or no supervision."

"This is a jack-of-all-trades position that may be cross utilized in all aspects of the search for Caylee as well as any personal need of the Anthony family, as directed by Lee Anthony," according to the ad.......

The family is also seeking volunteers to staff their tent at Publix on Chickasaw Trail near Lake Underhill Road to hand out fliers and materials.

George Anthony To Be Deposed By Prosecutors

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Eyewitness News has confirmed that George Anthony will answer prosecutors' questions during a deposition scheduled for Wednesday at the Orange County courthouse. George's attorney, Brad Conway, told Eyewitness News that George will be in court to respond to questions in the case against his daughter, Casey Anthony.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says (watch interview) George's testimony could be a key element for the state because of his law enforcement training.
"He bolsters and strengthens those two links in the chain of circumstantial evidence against [Casey]," said Sheaffer.

Last week, both Lee and Cindy Anthony spent hours answering questions about Casey and her daughter Caylee Anthony.

Casey Anthony is in the Orange County jail, accused of murdering Caylee Anthony. A date has not been set for Casey's murder trial, but a status hearing is set for January 21 to determine a possible trial date.

How much will he lash out with pretend defense of the honor of Caylee's little remains? And how much will he tell how PROUD he is of his murderous daughter Casey? Or is he going to take the coward's way out and not even show up?
