If a mod peeks in here, the two 7/15/09 Amber Alerts can be moved. The 9 month old was found safe! The 13 &10 year old in TN was a cruel hoax. Costing I am sure tons of investigation, money and Amber Alerts being issued in two states. ::shakes head::

Thanks in advance.

One vote for chase here!!!! We have been rescueing animals for a while ourselves, mostly cats though.  Always makes me feel good to see other people step up to the plate.

thank you so much!!  We got Buddy nearly 4 months ago..a chocolate cocker...he has blossomed these past months....he was skinny and so frightened when we got him from the rescue....he still frightens easily, cowers at loud voices and loud noises and shakes if someone tried to pick him up...except me!  LOL  But he knows this is his home now. He learned to use the doggie door in a week and now goes and sits in front off the pantry for a treat!

Hi Sunny!!! I can so relate to the pantry squatter..
I have two that squat in front of mine in hopes of getting a snackie.Trouble is,they think they are deserving of one just because they squat there and wait! Too funny Sunny...

Accused Of Killing Wife On Cruise Ship
FBI Says Woman, 55, Killed On Board Carnival Elation

POSTED: 9:26 am PDT July 16, 2009
UPDATED: 10:38 am PDT July 16, 2009

SAN DIEGO -- A 55-year-old woman was killed aboard a cruise ship that docked in San Diego Thursday, and her husband was arrested in connection with the slaying, according to the FBI.

FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said the 2,052-passenger Carnival Elation was on the last leg of a five-day trip to Baja Mexico on Tuesday when members of the ship's crew responded to a domestic dispute between the couple in their cabin.

The crew members entered the cabin and found the woman dead, Foxworth said.

The woman's husband was taken into custody aboard the vessel, he said.

The names of the victim and her husband were not immediately released.

Please take just a few minutes of your time...‏

Phyllis Cottle's attacker is up for parole

http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/50794677.html

At the link is an address to write the Ohio Parole board.  Please take a minute to express how you feel regarding Samuel Herring's release.

I know I posted my letter already, but in watering my Redbud transplants - I had to make it a little stronger, so here is the final copy - I promise, it is printing now to drop at the post office on way to pick up son!

To:  Ohio Parole Board                                                               July 16, 2009
770 W. Broad St.,
Columbus, OH 43222

RE:  Samuel J. Herring
Inmate number A180009

I am writing today to plead with you to not grant the release of : Samuel J. Herring,  inmate number A180009.  Once before society let down, one of his victims: Phyllis Cottle.  This happened when many people watched and did nothing as they assumed this was “just” another domestic dispute.  Crimes against women have got to stop, and your refusal of allowing this heinous predator who has no regard for human life will be a step in empowering that message.
Phyllis “endures” (I would say lives, but with the fear of him being released there is little living for her) each day, blind and unable to see should Samuel J. Herring show up to finish what he started.  His record from age 11 speaks volumes as to what we as society can expect to see from him.
Let Phyllis see again, let her see justice and that this time society won’t look away.  Therefore, I plead with you to protect humanity and be the voice against abuse and violent crimes against women; and refuse his release.
Sincerely,

BTW - Trimm, your video had me ROFL yesterday when I watched it for the first time.  That is soooooooo you girl!   It is in her siggy line, so if you haven't seen it - do!

Back later!!!!!!!!!

How cute these guys are and how HORRIBLE what was done to them!  I just don't understand how some people think?

6 kittens found in closed suitcase at Eustis shelter

EUSTIS

Six kittens were found gasping for air inside a closed suitcase dumped in a field in front of the Cat Protection Society, the group's president said this morning.

"I've worked here 14 years and this is the worst thing I've ever seen," sad Lois Lanius, president of the nonprofit no-kill shelter off Getford Road. "This is beyond my comprehension that anyone would even think it would be OK to do this."

Lanius found the suitcase as she was driving into work Wednesday afternoon to volunteer at the shelter. At first she thought it would contain something unusual, "like money," she said. But when she and another society worker slowly opened the old hard-shell suitcase, they gasped.

"We flung it open," she said. "They were just laying there in a lump, tongues hanging out and eyes bulging."

Lanius and other workers wrapped the kittens in cold wet towels and injected water into their mouths using syringes.

The kittens, named the "the suitcase kids," appeared to be doing fine this morning.

"They look fabulous. They're eating like little pigs," Lanius said.

no he just sits there patiently waiting...almost in a trance. I feel sorry for him then and give him a treat. We have wood floors in the kitchen and his rear end starts wiggling and he looks like he is on ice...but he sits as best he can until he gets that treat,  then he is gone in a flash!!  Sammy is another story...he will scratch on the pantry door and it that doesn't work he hits it with his paw....LOL...he is too proud to beg...he demands!  LOL

Dog Nurses, Saves Panda Cubs in China
Thursday , July 16, 2009

ADVERTISEMENTBEIJING  —

Two red panda cubs abandoned by their mother at birth are thriving at a northern China zoo thanks to milk and loving care from an unlikely surrogate mother — a dog, state media reported on Thursday.

The cubs, born June 25, were abandoned immediately by their mother after giving birth in front of a crowd of visitors at the Taiyuan Zoo in northern China's Shanxi province, according to Ha Guojiang, a zoo employee quoted by the official Xinhua News Agency.

"No one knew she was pregnant. Her plump body and bushy hair disguised her protruding belly until the babies were born," said Ha. "We hurriedly went about to find a wet nurse for them."

Telephone calls to the Taiyuan zoo rang unanswered on Thursday.

The dog wet nurse, belonging to a farmer from a nearby suburb, was selected from two other candidates that had recently given birth. The dog is now raising the two panda cubs like its own pups, sometimes even refusing to feed its own pup, said Ha, cited by Xinhua.

At 3-weeks-old, the baby cubs have yet to open their eyes and have doubled in length to 20 centimeters (8 inches), Xinhua reported.

Unlike the more well-known, bear-like giant pandas, red pandas resemble raccoons with long bushy tails. There are believed to be fewer than 2,500 adult red pandas in the world.
