  Sorry I didn't know about your loss.  I would keep some things as memories.  I have a few of my mom's things still, some 24 yrs later.  You sound like you have good memories inside.   
 

I have a few of my moms things also, it's been almost 34 years even have some of my dads stuff. It always makes me feel good to look at them and have good memories. Hubs went to Florida last year and got all his dads tools. He just didn't want his mom get rid of them.  It's hard no matter how long they have been gone.

that was good - Oh I so fear that Mamma SKUNK ... I pray she finds a new yard to call home.
She is Big with stinky pee to match.  OUCH

They can get be good size. When we put the cat food on the front porch you can always tell when they are eating, the dishes get pushed around. Babs dogs get sprayed every couple months. Thank God they don't seem bothered by the cats. I would hate to try and bath them

Omg GE if either one of my cats were sprayed it would be as if Hell opened up. TT he is um about 40lbs and Does not like to get wet ever. When I carry him, he is like a 2 yr old human. He wraps his legs around me and puts one arm on my back and his other on my chest. He is not fat as in obese - he is a huge huge cat. And then my other Dew ..he is nuts. I know he is Feral. He is so unpredictable. Its not even funny. If he were to get sprayed - My life would be Hell .. no question. I would Run away from Home. Lol ... I would have to.

My Dad passed away quite a few years ago but neither my Mom or myself have really gone into his garage till now.  My Mom was ready to let go some of his things and it was time, but clearly tonight I found out she was not ready to let go of all yet.  She would not let me pull out his table saw.  She is 70, what in gods name is she going to do with a 10" tablesaw?  At least the tool I would not let her sell can be held in your hand and does not involve a power outlet.

My entire living room is filled with my Dad's stuff. I just stare at it. I am not ready to go through it.
Its all in boxes and such. I will surely do it soon enough. I for now just stare at it.
I got a call the other day from the bank, their sending a tow truck to come get my Dad's car. Its in my driveway. That is going to hurt to see it go. I keep thinking I am just keeping his car because he is off Golfing in Florida having the time of his life .. I wish to think he is.

Deenie, yes my Mom is finally ready to sell my Dad's tools, etc.  My brother wanted none of it and told her to get a huge dumpster and toss it all.  My sons have each taken something to remember him by, so the rest of what she was ready to deal with is going up in a garage sale tomorrow and Friday.

God bless your Mom. You know why Northern she wants to keep it. I bet. Is because the smell that surrounds it.  A saw always has a smell that you can never get rid of ( from the wood it has cut and everything he did with it, or not with it, Maybe he dreamed of making things with it)  Smells contain memories as well do objects. All of it is hard.

For your Mother it's prob for her too much for her to see all of his things GO at once. For others it is just junk and stuff and clutter. ( not you or your son's) but others see it that way.
Maybe if you take Mom aside and let her privately go through all the stuff and tell her to PICK one thing that is really meaningful .. that she can take and put in a special place. Maybe that would help her. I don't know.

It was the big arse table saw tonight.  She was fine when I was crawling under a heater dragging out the band saw almost braining myself on the heater.  I hope she leaves the table saw in the garage, can not imagine how to disguise it as furniture in the living room.   She was also putting things in drawers when she thought I was not looking so I know she has other stuff put away.  I hope it was not something like a flare gun .  Sorry if my humour is seems off, but I have to try to find funny in tonight and the next two days.
