So with all these snakes (pets) that people are letting lose that are a threat to children and small pets... are these snakes edible?  I've eaten rattlesnake and it wasn't bad.  I'm seriously wondering if these snakes (Pythons) that have gotten so huge could be food?

Just answered my own question

http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/columnists/mayo/blog/2009/07/python_recipes_anyone.html

So I guess we’re going to need some good Python recipes.

I went trolling the Internet this morning, and found a pretty amusing discussion thread on “How to cook Burmese python” over at Chowhound.

A commenter named Veggo wrote: “I suggest a 1-day marinade with soy sauce, orange juice concentrate, scallions, ginger, and honey. Bake it with the marinade and baste occasionally. Florida is overrun with them; we need to make them delicious.”

Recipes with a bite! Facts and fun about rattlesnake meat
No. Well, maybe to the unsophisticated palate. Welcome to my rattlesnake recipe website. I love the taste of game. Pheasant, wild boar, caribou, and of course, rattlesnake. When in the southwest there is nothing more, well, southwest - than dining on a delicious rattlesnake meal.

It has a very gamey flavor. Almost a delicate seafood-like taste, depending on how it is served. A little like alligator, a little like quail, a little like frog legs. But then again, not quite like any of those. It really is unique and needs to be tasted when cooked in a lightly spiced dish to be appreciated.

Oh, sure - you can spice it up if you want. You can substitute it for any other meat in lots of recipes. You can make a rattlesnake burger and cover it with barbeques sauce if that's your thing. Many rattlesnake recipes are nothing more than a spicy meat dish with snake substituted for the beef, pork, chicken, or seafood.

But you are going to miss out on the wonderfully unique rattlesnake flavor if you do that. The snake should be boiled and/or simmered first so you can remove the meat from the bones. So boil it with a little bit of spice and some lemon juice and taste it before proceeding with your masterpiece.

Go ahead and try some of the wonderful recipes on this site. Your taste buds will thank you!

Featured Recipe

Spicy Rattlesnake Pasta

1/4 cup olive oil

3 large garlic cloves, minced

1 28 oz can Italian tomatoes

1 dried hot red chilies, minced

1 tbsp. oregano

2 tsp. dried basil

2 tsp. black pepper

1 tsp. salt

juice from 1/2 lemon

1/2 lb. rattlesnake meat

1 lb penne or pasta of choice

Simmer rattlesnake in water and lemon juice for 1 hour, remove and separate meat from bones.

Combine de-boned meat with the rest of the ingredients (except pasta) in large saucepan and simmer for 1/2 hour.

Cook pasta as normal and serve over cooked pasta.

Wonder how it's going at GE's?  Still thinking about her Lasagna.     Hope their all having a blast and getting ready to bunker down together at Grams house.  It just seems like fun to me.  I'm happy for her.
