You and me, and frankly why should the rich pay for everything? They were smart enough to either have been born into money, or worked their butts off to become rich, so why should they be penalized?

NEW YORK, July 29, 2009 (AFP) – A top US domestic security chief announced Wednesday a strategy to make ordinary citizens the first line of defense against an increasingly multi-faceted terrorist threat.

"For too long, we've treated the public as a liability to be protected rather than an asset in our nation's collective security," Janet Napolitano, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said in a speech in New York.

"This approach, unfortunately, has allowed confusion, anxiety and fear to linger."

Yeah, Janet Napolitano! Just see what happens to a citizen that just reports on 911 what she thinks is a break in at a residence in Cambridge Ma! Now you think the average citizen ought to stick their neck out and tell the government about a suspected terrorist! Go talk to your boss! I don't think he feels the same way.

That was one of the reasons that I didn't want to talk to the FBI guy wanting to question me about my neighbor. I'm afraid I could say something, even though I don't know them at all really, I was scared.

You may soon able to, now that a Chicago-based jeweler has unveiled plans to sell a limited collection made from Jackson's hair.

"Our plan is to give people an opportunity to own a diamond made from Michael Jackson's DNA," Dean VandenBisen, the founder of LifeGem tells ADWeek.

The hair being used was collected by producer Ralph Cohen following the accident on the set of Jackson's 1984 Pepsi commercial where the pop star was severely burned after a pyrotechnics malfunction. Cohen picked up the fire-singed hair and placed it in his jacket pocket where it had remained for 25 years.

What do you think? Is this a fitting tribute, or just another (gross) way for someone to make a buck at Jackson's expense?

It's been in his jacket pocket for 25 yrs??? Has he been wearing it??  I bet Joe Jackson will be after him in nothing flat.

So, now they have us boxed in where we can't tell what we know, even if we know it. Is this still America???

There was a joke among truck drivers that would go into Miami. It was "Would the last American out of Miami please bring the American flag with the." It is beginning to feel like that everywhere.

Whalen's attorney, Wendy Murphy, seized the opportunity Wednesday to criticize President Obama's invitation to host both Gates and Crowley for a beer summit at the White House. 

"The three highly trained guys who reacted badly are getting together for a beer," she said.  "But the one person whose actions have been exemplary will be at work tomorrow in Cambridge."

"I don't know -- maybe it's a guy thing. She doesn't like beer anyway," she said.

Murphy said the incident spiraled into a media sensation because of the "overreaction of three men" -- which Murphy said included the response from the president.

    None of this makes sense, maybe she should have been invited for a drink also, since it looks like her life has been hellish over all this.

Well, that's where it gets weird. My neighbors are from the Middle East, and the husband has been working for six months in Iraq as an interperter? sp,  then he came home for two weeks and is now back over there working. He wanted to ask me questions about him, which I felt was a little late since he has already been there for six months. I just told him, I don't know anything about him or his family, which is the truth.

really...??  thats almost sad.  when 9/11 took place my boss (and the business owner) was from Iran.  i was so afraid some redneck would come to the restaurant and do something stupid because the owner was from the middle east.  thankfully it never happened, but the thought had crossed my mind that it could...people get worked up about stuff and lose all common sense...
