Career Shoplifter
Arrested
Updated: Monday, 03 Aug 2009, 2:13 PM CDT
Published : Monday, 03 Aug 2009, 12:09 PM CDT

An 86-year-old woman was placed in custody Sunday afternoon in what Chicago police said was her 61st arrest for shoplifting after she allegedly took several items including anti-wrinkle cream from a North Side Dominick’s Finer Foods.

Ella Orko, 86, of an unidentified address in Chicago, was charged with felony shoplifting, according to a Belmont District police lieutenant who said she was arrested at 3 p.m. Sunday at a Dominick's grocery in the 2500 block of North Clyborn Avenue.

Orko allegedly took five packs of salmon, 11 packages of AA batteries, 2 packs of L’Oreal RevitaLift anti-wrinkle cream, eight boxed jars of Olay face cream and four jars of instant coffee from the store, according to the lieutenant.

Orko was arrested when someone from the grocery saw her allegedly take the items, which have a total value of $252.26, and place them in her clothing before attempting to exit the store without paying for the items, according to a police report.

Orko, who has been arrested 61 times including Sunday’s arrest, has 13 convictions also for shoplifting. She was arrested for the first time in 1956 in Chicago for petty larceny and again in 1958 for grand larceny, according to the lieutenant.

“She’s a career shoplifter,’’ the lieutenant said.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating.

My friend just sent me this......

Folks, This just about says it all, and I admire the teacher who wrote it. Even if you voted for the our current President, you surely are beginning to have doubts about for whom, and what he stands.

April 17, 2009
The White House
1600  Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington , DC 20500

Mr. Obama:
I have had it with you and your administration, sir. Your conduct on your recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an adequate representative of the   United States of America collectively or of me personally. You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the  United States of America . You are responsible to the citizens of the United States . You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on earth. I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the   United States telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world. Sir, what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about if not the
consideration of the peoples of Europe ? Are you brain dead?  Are you brain dead? What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about? Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?

Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the  United States does not consider itself a Christian country? Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the  United States ? This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage. Do you not understand this? Your bowing to the king of  Saudi Arabia  is an affront to all Americans. Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of   Saudi Arabia . You don't show   Great Britain , our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of   Saudi Arabia . How dare you, sir! How dare you!

You can't find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don't want to offend the Germans but make time to visit a mosque in  Turkey . You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves. What's the matter with you? I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you.
You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses. What do you intend to do about them? Anything? I seriously doubt it. What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves? I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer. You haven't said anything about that. Who authorized that?

I surely didn't! Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in bonuses over an  eighteen-month period, that's $45 million more than the AIG bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded $51 million, not a bad take. Who authorized that and why haven't you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the economic mess we have right now?

I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do. We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you. I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities. I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms destroying my beautiful country.
Sincerely,

Ms Kathleen Lyday Fourth Grade Teacher

Why would a five year old kid need four boxes of zip lock bags?
i have no clue
we also had to get dry erase markers (only black please) uggg
the children use them for different projects.  Drives me nutz.  My son needs 1 box of "snack size" and one box of "quart size"  the girls are bringing the sanwich & the pint.  Whatever.  3 folders, one yellow, one green & one red    and one composition notebook (2nd grade?) Oh & I love this, 3 large packs of "Lysol wipes"  Lysol only please.

The reason you don't have to put your name on it is the stuff with out the name is "communal".  Wait until they ask you to send extras for those who can't afford it. that really gets me in a tizzy!

I am probably in the worst mood today than I have ever been in my entire life.  & I've been in some really bad moods.
I'm sorry  an angelic monkey  I am just dumbfounded by all the things one needs to buy for kids to go to school  Lysol wipes

i just spent 70 flippin' dollars at he77-mart for school supplies for Babycrazy

I'm sorry, MamaCrazy.

I am so sorry Mama.  I did school supplies for the youngest two last week.  Just over $400.  No clothes, nothing fancy, no designer stuff, just supplies, new backpacks  and runners.  They go to two differnet schools and the lists are getting weirder by the year, bandaids and two full size boxes of kleenex.  WTH?
What about the kids who can't afford the things to go back to school with? Bandaids

MamaCrazy, it DOES sound like you are buying supplies for others in the class. Maybe this is the way they supply other children who don't bring their own, especially if you only put her name on her sleep mat and book bag. This sounds like a rip to me.
i feel for any child whos parents either cannot afford supplies  or just won't buy them for them but jees her school has a web-site and all over it is pto info...ya think that they would have some kind of fundraser or something for this problem...not just stick it to the rest of us

Why would a five year old kid need four boxes of zip lock bags?

The teacher probably uses them to keep the "communal" supplies in.  If each parent brings 4 then they have enough for everything.  My lists drove me nuts.  One green 1", 3 ring binder with inside pockets (available at Staples).  What the teachers are colourblind?

That's what they do here too NoRose.Everybody brings extra for the ones who don't have.
We never had lists like that when we were kids.
We had a school bag, no backpacks back then, some pencils, pens, paper, and off you went

Yup here as well.  One list had "45" Hb pencils NOT made in China.  There is no way one kid will go through 45 pencils in 8 months.  There was also a note at the bottom that the school would no longer be supplying construction paper, white out or tape.  So I am betting I will be getting a second list for projects as the year goes one.  Busing also went up to $255 for each of them this year.  Over $900 spent and neither of them have even stepped foot into school yet.
Okay, now that does it, no pencils made in China, so now you have to look at the da_n pencils to see where they are made? I'm glad my kids are in their twenties. Tell me about the bus fees. In Wisconsin the bus was free, we moved back here and when they told me the cost of the bus fare, I started laughing, I thought the lady was joking......

Last year my daughter forgot her lunch bag at school.  She went back the next day and could not find it.  We had an event at the school the day after (2 days later) and I went through the lost and found, no lunch bag.  So I asked at the office.  At the end of each month they clear out the lost and found regardless if the item went in on Friday or Monday , first day of the month or last and it gets boxed up and sent to a school they have adopted in Malawi.  So my daughters thermal lunch bag with her name in black sharpie writtin on the inside is somewhere in Malawi
