I have first-hand experience with Medicare Advantage; the First Mate uses it to make her Medicare coverage workable. To enter the plan, she needs to spend a large percentage of her Social Security disability check each month for the premiums. In return, the MA plan extends coverage on prescriptions and services, and most crucially, works the Medicare payment issues between the government and the providers. Without MA, we would be deep in the hole for her ongoing treatment relating to her kidney transplant and her disabilities, and we consider the premium money well spent.
Medicare Advantage exists as a successful model of government and private insurers working together to deliver better medical care through private-market options. This is, of course, the reason Democrats have to stop it. They need to kill any evidence that insurers can be responsible partners in health care, and they also need the money to make ObamaCare look less expensive. In return, millions of Medicare recipients will have to fall back on the poor coverage of Medicare by itself and deal directly with providers angered over not getting payments.
Make no mistake: an attack on Medicare Advantage is an attack on seniors and the disabled, and a sharp reduction in coverage and care for them. That’s not just hardball — it’s the truth.

We pay for Medicare Advantage too. So far, so good. I guess now we are SOL. 

Fanny you are not screwed YET, write your congressman, Senator, speak out and tell anyone you know what is going to happen if this passes. I don't think it will pass by August. The more people know, the more they will listen. Tell them to write their elected officials. Get the word out.

The polls are showing that people don't trust them and a lot of them are up for reelection soon. The more our voices are heard, the more leverage we have. Don't fret, JSM

Now I know from working in a hospital and nursing homes, a lot of patients had medi/medi, medicare was the primary and medicaid to pick up the balance. Now with medicare advantage is that like having medicare with a private insurance like Blue Shield, which is what my dad has?

Beers.Although I will probably need a Xanax tomorrow.Hubby wants to take the kids out to eat.We did that the last time and the kids dumped a drink in his seat and he sat in it.     Oh yeah,he was distracted because they hid his new cell phone.

Yep!

I will say that medicare/blue shield was very good with my mother's hospital bill, and we didn't have to worry about that when my mom passed away. That was one thing we didn't have to fight with.

No, but this is definitely a case where you know what side people are on. The latest is that Ron was not at work the night Haleigh disappeared, but that is no surprise to me.  I went down stairs for a ciggie, and husband is in his lazyboy, with a glass of wine, and told me don't start an argument, I want to here what he has to say.  I said okay, just wanted to tell you Michelle has a new hairdo, he did ask if she looked better

Not sure about that Trimm.   

I haven't read the d*mn thing, but private insurance is a big business and if that goes down the tubes with this healthcare crap, a lot of people will be out of work, along with the automotive workers that have lost their jobs due to the goverment taking over. If they keep meddling with everything, sooner or later if you don't work for the goverment, you will be out of a job.

No, but this is definitely a case where you know what side people are on.
