US strike may have killed bin Laden's son: report

WASHINGTON — One of Osama bin Laden's sons may have been killed by a US missile strike in Pakistan earlier this year, National Public Radio reported.

Saad bin Laden, the Al-Qaeda leader's third-oldest son, is "believed" to have been killed by Hellfire missiles fired from a US Predator drone "sometime this year," the US broadcaster said on its website.

The United States has put Pakistan at the heart of the fight against Al-Qaeda. The US military and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) are the only forces that deploy drones to the region.

US spy agencies are "80 to 85 percent" sure that Saad bin Laden is dead, a senior counterterrorism official told NPR, while acknowledging that it was difficult to be completely sure without a body on which DNA tests could be conducted.

Officials at the CIA and the US Central Command, which oversees US military operations in the Horn of Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, told AFP they could not immediately confirm the report.

Earlier this year, former US spy chief Mike McConnell said the younger bin Laden, who is alleged to have worked for Al-Qaeda in Iran, either escaped or was released from house arrest in Iran and was likely in Pakistan.

Also in January, in the dying days of the administration of president George W. Bush, the US Treasury Department froze the assets of Saad bin Laden and three other Al-Qaeda operatives.

According to the Treasury, Saad bin Laden, who is believed to be in his 20s, was part of a small group of Al-Qaeda operatives who helped manage the organization from Iran, where he was arrested in 2003.

He also allegedly helped facilitate communication between Al-Qaeda's number two leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and the Quds Force, an elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, following an Al-Qaeda attack on the US embassy in Yemen in 2008.

Saad bin Laden was active in Al-Qaeda but not a major player, the official said, adding he was simply "in the wrong place at the wrong time," having not been important enough to be targeted personally.

NPR said it was not known whether Saad bin Laden was close to the location of his father, who is believed to be hiding in the rugged mountainous tribal belt along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, when he died.

"We make a big deal out of him because of his last name," the official said.

Now you are lucky if you get an e-mail or a form letter. I used to know my representives in Congress, by name, and they knew me. After the election votes are taken, we are forgotten about by people  we really didn't know in the first place anymore.

 We need a leader, someone, and it isn't in this bunch. This is not the Messiah or the second coming. It is people handing over control to someone that means us no good. There are prominent people in all walks of life that have a huge stake in this. I don't know when it comes down to it if there will be anyone that will be able to help us. I saw one man during hurricane Katrina that marched into town , and took over the mess, and got them through when all felt it was lost. That was General Russell Ornore. A brave an noble man, respected.

I am not promoting him for president, I just want someone that can see with his own eyes what needs to be done and do it. To have the respect for his people, and they for him, and they are together as one. This old thing of making Higher Classes, and lower Classes of people, but no middle class people. That's the way the Europens did it. You were either Kings and Queens, or in their court, or you were peons. The very weathy or the dirt poor. That's where we are headed, like fast, fast, out of control. JMO

Maybe I'll watch the repeat if I have enough to drink  but I bet the messiah is worrying about his poll numbers and the fact that he is truly not omnipitent, but IMPOTENT as a leader

I stopped listening to that jerk a long time ago.  I detest him.  I think he is a secret Moslem and not even an American citizen.  I believe that radical Islam is organized crime and should be prosecuted under the RICO laws.  I don't know how this happened that we are going slowly, well not so slowly, into Socialism and few of our politicians dare to call it what it is.  Socialism has never worked and never will.  Human beings need competition and individualism which Socialism doesn't allow.  I am old enough to remember Barry Goldwater, "If treason prosper, none dare call it treason."  I know that didn't originate with him, but he wrote a book entitled, "None Dare Call it treason."  IMO attempting to infringe on our First Amendment rights is treason.  I know they will try it, but I hope to God that there are enough of us to object and not go along like sheep the way it is going now.  I know I'm preaching to the choir here because most of you are also disatisfied with this administration and their power and money grabs.  I have never felt this way before about the country's wellbeing and I, too, feel that something is wrong, something is going to happen.  And that global warming scam is bullsh*t.  Two nights in a row we have had record low temperatures.  This bunch of morons is giving away the store. Last year the entire earth had temperatures 1/2 degree lower than the year before.  Al Gore is getting some money out of this scam and the Cap and Trade deal is so harmful to this country that I can't begin to describe it.

I saw this today and thought it might fit in here. It's not a Sarah Palin ping, it's a "Hey, Federal Government! YOU only have the powers that we, the states, allowed you to have. We think you're overstepping your bounds, and we plan to do something about it. It's called the Tenth Amendment, read it and get the freak off our backs!" ping.

If you go to the link at the end, you'll see how many states have similar bills either passed or under consideration. Seems us "little folks" are being heard.

That projectile vomiting and a kid will clear just about anywhere, mine did that in a shopping cart once, and vomited all over the box of cheezits she was holding 

One of my sons projectiled in a mountain hotspring that was packed full of seniors hoping to cure their arthritis.  We had been driving for about 6 hours with stops to get popcorn, Orange pop and grapejuice.  You can image the rainbow that was floating in the water when he was done.  I took him and my other son out of the pool, got dressed and left.
