Prayers for this little boy.  He is just adorable.  How anyone could hurt someone that can smile like that is beyond me.

A National Guard spokesperson told NewsChannel 7 that guardsmen are looking at the desert south of town for any unusual tire tracks or other things that may be out of place.

Thousands of volunteers from the community showed up at a number of locations around the Boise neighborhood where the boy went missing. They were assigned to Boise Police Department officers and are conducting a thorough day-long search of the area.

Michelle Sigona of AMW, evidence found in mom's apartment indicates Robert may be injured or the victim of a tragedy. Well over a thousand people turned up to search and some businesses even closed for the day to allow staff to search.

Michelle was just on FNC.

According to a poster at WS who is watching the local news on TV. (no link)

The police searching the apartment today have removed a computer, they have also just pulled up with a rented U-Haul, with a police officer driving it.

They must plan on taking furniture into evidence??

My heart i s
Prayers for this little boy.  He is just adorable.  How anyone could hurt someone that can smile like that is beyond me.

It's beyond all of us, hon.

He is so cute. My heart hurts for him.
It hurts for his dad who may have now lost 2 children as a result of the women in his life. It hurts for his aunt, his older brother and all his extended family that are in such pain right now.

It's just so sad and tragic.

Boise Police Officer Kip Wills, ordinarily a traffic officer who works with search and rescue as well, is leading a group of volunteers searching an area bounded by Iowa, Linden, Broadway and Gekeler.

The area includes Ivywild Park, which has one of the nicest public swimming pools in town, so there's a reasonable chance you could find a child here, Wills said. It's a distance from Oak Village Apartments, but it's conceivable a kid could make his way here.

Searchers in this group did find blood on the sidewalk, but it turned out to be a dog with a torn paw.

Crowds Turn Out For Manwill Boy Search

Posted: July 31, 2009 02:36 PM

Updated: July 31, 2009 02:52 PM

Hundreds of volunteers showed up throughout the Boise area Friday to help search for Robert Manwill, 8, who has been missing for a week.

The search effort was the latest attempt to find the little boy, and came after an overnight raid of Manwill's mother's Boise Bench apartment. Several bags were removed from the site and a vehicle towed from the apartment complex.

At South Junior High School, one of three locations throughout Boise where volunteers gathered, as many as seven hundred searchers donned orange vests and clutched water bottles, ready for a long day in the sun.

"We're moms and if our kid went missing," volunteer Tina Hansford explained, "We'd want people to come out and help us."

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter offered words of thanks and encouragement to the volunteers at So. Jr. High School as police teamed up with groups and instructed them to look near "roadways, parks or canals."

In a news conference Friday afternoon, Boise Police urged searchers to continue looking for Robert and said volunteers were helping them with "one aspect" of the case.

Too sad. Just too, too sad. Another broken family. Another poor little innocent soul.

1:14 p.m. update

Here's what came from the press conference — the latest news still — as recapped by Statesman police reporter Patrick Orr:

Boise police say they have discovered undisclosed evidence that shows “suspicious circumstances” in the disappearance of 8-year-old Robert Manwill and that he “may indeed be injured — or the victim of a tragic event.”

But Boise police have not identified a suspect or person of interest in the case, and officials say they still need the hundreds of citizen volunteers scouring the Vista neighborhood to look for Robert.

“Robert is still missing. It’s very important we locate Robert and or find any evidence that may help us locate where he is or where he isn’t,” Boise Police Deputy Chief Jim Kerns told a group of reporters Friday afternoon.

Kerns said volunteers should report anything that looks “suspiciously out of place ... that may point to where Robert is. Even if we find nothing, we’ve learned where Robert isn’t. That too is helpful.”

For the second time in 12 hours Friday morning, Boise police detectives and crime scene investigators searched the apartment from where Robert disappeared. Police officials haven’t said what the evidence is that leads them to believe Robert was injured but did say that was what officers were concentrating on Friday.

“It’s the response from this community, Robert’s family, and the shy smile of the little boy on the missing (person) poster that keeps us investigators going,” Kerns said.

Manwill’s family members, including his father, Charles Manwill and his aunt, Trish Burrill, attended Friday’s press conference. Some wiped tears away from their eyes as Kerns spoke.

Burrill once again thanked the public for all their support and help in trying to find Robert.

“As a family, and as a whole, we want everyone not to give up hope,” Burrill said. “Please help us to bring Robert home.”

Boise police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower said the two afternoon volunteer search sessions will proceed. Police officials thought they may get between 600 and 1,000 volunteers for all three shift but may have reached that for the 9 a.m. shift Friday.

Hightower said officials have not been able to count the exact number of volunteers so far but say the public response is “unprecedented."

1,687 volunteers have helped look for Robert Manwill so far, according to CBS2.

Bless each and everyone of them. They still have the 3 p.m search to go.

I saw that in the one article.  Was not sure if this guy was referring to that or possibly another vehicle so I posted it.  Sorry if I caused confusion.

And on late Thursday, authorities did an extensive search into the apartment complex where Robert was last seen. That search included seizing items from Robert's mother's apartment. They also towed her red SUV. Police did not elaborate why they searched her apartment.

Don't be sorry! Thank you for posting it. Things are happened so quickly, it could very well be another vehicle!

The media could have got the "owner" wrong on the SUV.
