UPDATE: No positive ID yet on body found in canal

A male juvenile body was found floating in this stretch of the New York Canal near Kuna.

KUNA - The body of a young boy was found in the New York Canal near Kuna Monday afternoon - and police are trying to determine if the boy is Robert Manwill, who went missing on July 24th.

Just before 1:30 p.m., a citizen called Ada County Dispatch and said there was a body floating in the canal. An Ada County Sheriff's Deputy responded to the scene and jumped into the water to pull the body from the water.

The Ada County Coroner also responded to the scene, and the person was found to be dead.

“The body is that of a young boy about the same age and size as Robert Manwill," Deputy Chief Jim Kerns said Monday night.

The coroner's office is working to make a positive identification on the body, but that determination is not expected to come until Tuesday. An autopsy will be performed on the body.

“A missing child is every family’s nightmare, and a nightmare for an entire community," Kerns said. "(This case) remains under active investigation. Detectives are working closely with the coroner’s office.”

Dispatchers tell us no other children have been reported missing today.

Manwill's family has been apprised of the development.

JSM is so very sad right now. The sheriff said "the family" does that mean the mom and step dad or the "real" dad's family?

Another question, JSM doesn't know what a canal is, is it like a river? Does it flow fast or is it just for irrigation? We have a canal, but it is for looks only and it doesn't really move unless there is a storm. TIA JSM

Not real sure.  but egg donor and bf have to know that people suspect them...especially after their pasts were made public.  Prolly why they have been no where to be found lately.

Certainly BPD know where they are but not sure where that is.

One more stupid question, then I will shut up. Is the canal close to his mom's residence? I have a "canal" behind my apartments but it is lit up and you have to go down a slope bigger than the one in the pictures. I just wanted to know if it could be possible that he fell in and drowned?

There could be somewhat of a current, especially from the pumps that the farmers use to draw the water to their fields. But my guess is he was placed in the water pretty close to where is was found. It is getting pretty close to havest season now for the potatoes and beets, and they may not need as much water right now. JMO

My heart is breaking for Robert's dad right now. Imagine losing 2 of your children in one lifetime. And young Ken, Robert's brother, losing both of his siblings.

His family is living a nightmare right now, a nightmare that no family should have to live through. It's unimaginable.

Rest in peace little man. You are loved and so many care about you. I am glad you are found and am comforted a little by the fact that you have been safe in God's arms.

You deserved to be found and brought home to the family that loved you. You deserve a proper burial with dignity and respect.

You deserved so much better that what happened to you. I grieve for you tonight and I pray for your family who is in so much pain. I pray that if you have been a victim of foul play, that those that harmed you are arrested quickly and brought to justice.

I am sorry more couldn't have been done to protect you from harm.

If she were my family, she better be secluded with police protection, because I would be in jail for aggravated assault or premeditated murder.

JVM said the canal was close to the friend's house that had the car stolen......She also said that it was about 10 miles from the egg donors apartment. Not sure if that's true but that's what was said on the show this evening.........

According to what I can see, the canal is not all that close to the apartments, maybe four or five blocks past the park. Maybe KLAAS can post a screen shot of the aerials of the area. I am not real quick with it.
