Police looking for missing 14-year-old girl

WOODBURN, Ore. - Police are still searching for a kidnapping suspect and his 14-year-old victim.

Elvia Morales, 14, was reportedly taken from her Woodburn home sometime before 9 Wednesday morning by a family friend.

Detectives say Juan Martinez-Martinez, 38, drove up to the home where the teen lived and forcibly removed her from the house against her will.

Morales was alone at the house with her 17-year-old cousin at the time of the alleged abduction.

Even though Martinez-Martinez was known to the family—he had had dinner with the family before—police believe Morales is in serious danger.

“The 17-year-old was interviewed,” Woodburn Police Officer John Mikkola said.  “He said there was some pushing and then [Martinez-Martinez and Morales] left.

Martinez-Martinez used to work with Morales' father, but they had not seen the suspect in about 2 months.

The FBI is investigating the case.

An Amber Alert has not been issued yet because the police do not have a complete description of the car used.

FBI agents think they may already be in California, driving a dark-blue sedan, possibly a Saturn model, with unknown license plates.

Morales is about 4-foot-6, with black hair to the middle of her back and a diamond-shaped birthmark on the inside of her left bicep.

Martinez-Martinez is 5-foot-6 with short, black hair. He is a believed to be a transient and former field-worker.

Woodburn girl kidnapped by family acquaintance

09:43 AM PDT on Thursday, August 6, 2009

By Kgw.com Staff

WOODBURN, Ore. -- A 13-year-old girl was kidnapped from her family home by a man who used to work for her father, according to Woodburn police.
Girl taken by family acquaintance

Elvia Morales was home with her 17-year-old cousin when a man came to the house Wednesday and took her away. The 17-year-old tried to intervene, but was pushed aside, Woodburn Police Sgt. John Mikkola said.

Juan M. Martinez, 37, was accused of kidnapping Elvia. Detectives believe the pair may be in California.

Outside the family's home on Wednesday night, a visibly distraught Savena Salvador tried to cope with her daughter’s sudden disappearance.

A neighbor translated for Salvador.

“Where they went to look for her she wasn’t there, so they don’t know. She’s worried because she really cares about her daughter,” said Salvador.

Martinez allegedly arrived at the family's home and told the cousin that Elvia "was going to go with him."

"Apparently there was some sort of pushing match between the two,” Sgt. Mikkola added.

Moments later Martinez bolted with Elvia at his side.

“She appeared unhappy but she walked along with him. It appears as though she was scared,” Mikkola said.

Woodburn Police

Police say Martinez-Martinez may be headed to California.

The suspect, who has a wife and child in Mexico, used to work for Elvia's father and knew the girl, police said. She is a student at French Prairie Middle School.

Martinez may be driving a dark-colored sedan. Elvia Morales was last seen wearing a light blue shirt with blue jeans and white shoes.

Anyone with information was urged to contact Woodburn Police.

Family says kidnapping suspect was a friend

WOODBURN, Ore. - Police in Woodburn are looking for a teenager who was kidnapped on Wednesday.

According to police, a man who worked with the father of 13-year-old Elvia Morales went to the girl's home and took her.  Her 17-year-old cousin reportedly tried to stop the man, but was unable to keep him from taking the girl.

Earlier reports said Morales was 14 years old but KATU has learned she is actually 13 years old.

Family members said they considered the kidnapping suspect, 36-year-old Juan Martinez-Martinez, a family friend and that he sometimes had meals with them.

Police think that he may have left the area, possibly headed for California.

KATU News talked with Morales' father on Thursday and learned that a truck parked in the driveway of the Morales home was registered to Martinez-Martinez. Morales' father said Martinez-Martinez had been using the vehicle for a year and was making payments on it.

In another case we have a 14 year old girl is missing.. Her mom does not listen very well as I have suggested that anyone who may have worked for them at there home and come in contact with there daughter could be the culprit of her disappearance.. One thing I have noticed with these " Machismo " abductions.. The culprit always makes verbal contact with his victim before he takes her..
There is a cultural defect in Hispanic male thinking that is recognised by a large group of Hispanic females.. It is from Mexico to Argentina and it is also in Spain and some other places like Portugal and Cuba.

Yup, Leroy.

He's going to have her raped and murdered or stashed in Mexico before LE and FBI get their stick out of their butt and decide to issue an Amber Alert. There is more information here than there is for a lot of Ambers that have been issued. Just putting the pictures and information up on digital billboards between OR and CA, would be a help. Someone might see him at a gas station or something.

Thank you Ms. MuffyBee Smile

I don't mean to sound racist or ageist but if this was a eight year old little white girl, same circumstances, there would be an Amber Alert issued right off the bat.

Non-family abduction, under 18, known suspect, forced kidnapping, description of possible vehicle, where they might be heading..

HELLO?

I am angry at LE and the FBI. Angry that this young girl wasn't afforded an Amber Alert immediately. It's wrong!!

The Amber criteria is flawed IMO.  Every child deserves to have an Alert issued.

Woodburn teen kidnapped by man police say had "inappropriate relationship" with victim
by The Oregonian
Thursday August 06, 2009, 3:45 PM

Elvia Morales, 14, was taken from her Woodburn home early Wednesday.

Woodburn police say a 14-year-old girl was taken from her home early Wednesday morning by a man known to the family.

Juan Martinez Martinez, 36, described as a transient field worker, walked into the home where Elvia Morales lives with her parents.

He confronted the girl's older cousin, then took the girl with him.

Police said this afternoon that "there was an ongoing inappropriate relationship" between Martinez and the victim.

The pair may be headed to California, police said. The suspect used to work with the girl's father but the family has not seen Martinez in about two months.

Woodburn police Capt. Jason Alexander said the agency didn't release information until 12 hours after the girl's disappearance because they were still gathering information on the case throughout the day.

He said police are "very concerned" about the girl's welfare. He said he did not know if the girl went willingly.

The FBI also is investigating. Morales has a diamond-shaped birthmark on her inside left bicep.

No other information was immediately available this morning.

But her father is still worried and hasn't been able to reach her by phone again.  He said he still considers Martinez-Martinez a friend but doesn't understand why the man would take his daughter.

Thank you Ms. Muffy for the updates!

Doesn't know why the man took his daughter? He still a friend? WHAT?

He kidnapped your child! There was a struggle with your nephew, force was used.

He took her to rape her. I said RAPE. She is a child.

He may hurt her and toss her aside with all the heat on him.

I am praying for Elvia's safe return.

Kidnapping involved inappropriate relationship
Last Updated Aug 07, 2009 6:48 AM

Woodburn police are searching for a missing 13-year-old girl who they say was kidnapped from her home by her father's friend.

Police said 38-year-old Juan Martinez-Martinez took Elvia Morales from her Woodburn home on Wednesday morning. The investigation has revealed there was an ongoing inappropriate relationship between the suspect and the victim, according to Sgt. John Mikkola of the Woodburn Police Department.

A police spokesman said Martinez-Martinez had not been seen in months prior to showing up at Morales' home and that the girl's father is his former co-worker.

Sebastian Morales, Elvia's father, said he quickly rushed home after receiving word of the kidnapping.

"When I was on my way here she called and said, 'Dad, don't worry. I'm fine right now,'" Morales said in Spanish. "That's all I was able to talk to her about."

Sebastian Morales said Elvia's older cousin was pushed out of the way as Martinez-Martinez grabbed Elvia and walked out of the house. He said he considered Martinez-Martinez part of the family and doesn't understand why he would take his daughter.

"I don't know what he's thinking or what he's planning to do," he said. "I don't know if she's in danger. I don't know what he's up to."

Martinez-Martinez has family in California, and Sebastian Morales fears that's where he could be taking his daughter.

"They've probably seen the news, that police are looking for her," he said. "She's probably not going to turn up if she doesn't want to come back home."

Elvia Morales is described as 4 feet 5 inches to 4 feet 6 inches tall. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, an aqua-colored shirt and white shoes. She has a birthmark the size of a dime on her left arm and has long brown hair.

Martinez-Martinez is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds. He may be driving a dark older sedan, which may be a Saturn.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Woodburn Police Department.

This father is upsetting me.. I wrote some other words but caught myself and edited myself..
He knows very well what is in store for his precious daughter..
He very well knows this is the mindset of Machismo, his daughter taken as wife by a macho who intends to lock her up and knock her up.
He calls the guy his friend. How ridiculous.

It angers me too Edward. I played it tame with what I wanted to say.

I wonder if she was being forced to say what she did to her father, or if she thinks she's in love with this older man? I hope this all plays out okay and that she comes home safe and sound.
