With all of these Czars in the government, I somehow have a picture of  cossacks sneaking into a side door at the White House. I wonder if Obama can do that cossack dance where they squat down and stick out first one leg and then the other?  We'll probably all have to learn it.  Goodnight, Comrades.

Good night JSM and Josef, I will say I've never had hockey skates on before, that hockey is scary, wouldn't last a minute on the rink, but I have watched a little of it.

Hockey is way to expensive to play. The gear you have to wear, the ice time, etc. I will stick to figures where I can have my toepicks.

JSM,one of hubby's friends just called.He is a Vietnam Vet.He is not happy with what's going on with our government right now.Hubby is trying to calm him down.
He and hubby use to work together before the layoff and surgery.This guy is so cool,but when you look in his eyes you see so much pain.   
I think he may come over tomorrow.He is so sweet.   
He is big into martial arts,and he always says "Sis if you need anything you call me" and you know he means it.   

Trimm, I guarantee 99.9% of the vets out there today are pizzed at what is happening with this country. Especially the Viet Nam and Korean vets along with what is left of our greatest generation. These men and women fough against communism and socialism so we didn't have to live under these kinds of doctrine. Now we have a goverment trying to ram both down our throats.  I am glad your friend is mad and tell him tomorrow I am mad too!

PS, can I borrow him during my next competition if I have to skate against someone. I may need to have someone do a Tonya Harding. 

I bet he'd love that.He is a cutie too.He has a motorcycle too.   

He sounds like a nice guy. I may need to borrow him come February. 

Hubby just said he was raised in Florida.He doesn't know if he ice skates,but he has 2 motorcycles.....Harleys.   

Anyone can learn to skate, just strap a pair on them and push hard.  They may even do tricks that they never knew they had in them!  Now skating WELL is a whole other hockey puck!  My daughter threw her figure skates out and has been in hockey skates since about age 4.  She loves them as the pick does not get in her way.  I learned on figure skates and feel nakkid with hockey skates on.

Northern, I started skating 3 years ago so I could play hockey. Changed my mind quickly. I swear I would be lost without my toe picks and would fall backwards on my arse in hockey skates.

  As said, I feel nakid without my toe picks.  My daughter and her toe picks just never got along.  She would tip over them all the time and would get so frustrated.  Hockey skates as her thing.  When we take the pool down in the  fall that area gets flooded into a rink every year for the kids to skate and for us old timers to play some home style curling matches with water and food colouring frozen milk jugs as our rocks.

That is so cool you can freeze your own rink. I love curling, it is so hard. I have played it three times, but that is when they have the free session. The league fees are outrageous, so that keeps me from playing.

I saw that Trimm. I'm sure it is happening at all the town hall meetings. That one woman saying she was a doctor, but really worked for Team Obama and wasn't a doctor at all. The little girl that asked Obama about the mean signs, her mom worked for Obama's campaign. It is all smoke and mirrors for them and I am glad it is finally getting out.

Thanks NoRose.She was having a hard time.The parents went and picked up their son's things at the Sheriff's Department.They are divorced but decided to go together and talk it over.That is good that they have a decent relationship.
I guess it is better to deal with this now and try to move forward.It will take time to process it.

A health clinic in this blue-collar city north of Oakland, partly funded by the county, is saving local hospitals thousands of dollars in emergency-room visits by treating uninsured patients who suffer only non-urgent ailments.

A watchdog group is now calling on county officials to cut funding for clinic patients who can't prove they are in the U.S. legally, a debate certain to surface in the national health-care overhaul.

With congressional proposals already stirring raw emotions, few supporters are eager to add the incendiary issue of illegal immigration. A provision in the House's health-care-overhaul bill rules out federal funding for illegal immigrants.

But in many ways, illegal immigration is at the nexus of two key health issues: the uninsured and ballooning costs.

Roughly half of the 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. don't have health insurance, according to the Pew Hispanic Center, a nonpartisan research group. Like others who can't afford medical care, illegal immigrants tend to flock to hospital emergency rooms, which, under a 1986 law, can't turn people away, even if they can't pay. Emergency-room visits, where treatment costs are much higher than in clinics, jumped 32% nationally between 1996 and 2006, the latest data available.

The role illegal immigrants play in U.S. health-care costs is "one hot button that no one wants to touch," says Stephen Zuckerman, an economist at the Urban Institute, a nonpartisan think tank in Washington.

Speaking of being old, do you guys remember when I said I was thinking of going back to school?  I made an appointment for next week with the Adult Student Center.  Seems they have a separate section now for "unconventional" students!!!!!

Don't feel bad, JSM.  I don't understand tweet or facebook either.  If I did, I'd probably be so busy doin' that chit, the world would pass me by.  I already spend too much time here!

BIG SKY, Mont. – President Barack Obama is using political tactics and rhetorical devices honed in his White House campaign to regain the upper hand in the health care debate over increasingly vocal and organized critics.

In person and over the Internet, Obama is trying to counter intense public skepticism over Democratic plans to overhaul the health care system. It's his top domestic priority and arguably his most challenging political fight yet.

Familiar tools from the Obama candidacy include the town hall meetings where he rolls up his sleeves and discards his tie and jacket; a rapid-response Web site to counter critics' claims; and a populist pitch against the entrenched powers in Washington.

Plus he's got the bully pulpit, which he used Saturday.

"I know there's plenty of real concern and skepticism out there," he said in his weekly radio and Internet address. "I know that in a time of economic upheaval, the idea of change can be unsettling, and I know that there are folks who believe that government should have no role at all in solving our problems."

U.S. runs low on sugar, get ready for high prices

The United States is facing a major sugar shortage, according to the Wall Street Journal (subscription may be required).

On Aug. 5, General Mills, Hershey Co, Mars Inc., and Kraft Foods alerted Thomas J. Vilsak, the secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, of their combined forecast of low sugar supplies. These food companies warned that if the Agriculture Department does not allow them to import more tariff-free sugar, "our nation will virtually run out of sugar" and they will be forced to raise consumer prices and lay off workers.

This comes as a major eye opener, but there's more to this finding.

The WSJ states that the present trade quota places a limit to the number of tariff-free sugar that can be imported per year, with the exception of Mexico. This leaves major suppliers like Brazil out of the free trade mix. The fear looms that Brazil may not even have significant sugar supply for the U.S. because they are busy using large amounts of cane crop for ethanol use.
Another problem is the U.S. government; not a surprise. The U.S. artificially inflates domestic prices of sugar in order to support the incomes of farmers in the Midwest who are friendly with politicians who help them. Anything for a vote, right?

Economists state that sugar is part of the equation. Sugar is an active ingredient in almost all foods, and the impact of a price increase will be big. Food companies pay twice the world level for sugar because of government meddling.

Unless politicians in Washington decide to ease import quotas, the "U.S. will end the next fiscal year with less than 13 days worth of sugar on hand" according to the four food companies who band together to ring the alarm atop Capitol hill.
