WASHINGTON —  A top U.S. commander in Iraq said Tuesday that simmering ethnic tensions between Kurds and Arabs remain a grave threat to Iraq's stability, especially after American forces depart.

Hmmm, imagine that, we leave, they fight?  Stupid, Stupid thing to pull out now and leave the Iraqis to their own defense. JMO JSM

they are stretching our troops to thin.   

Not so sure about them being stretched to thin, more like they aren't being used properly in Iraq right now. Our troops have been told to let the Iraqi's handle things. Not a way to win a war IMO. It's like killing fireants, keep the Amdro going until they are all dead. JMO JSM

Your are right.the Iraqis aren't prepared to stand on there on.I don't like our guys having a limited position.I think we should have sent enough troops to flatten the place to start with if we had to be there.
Did you see the article about explosives being shipped to a base that were directly connected to a US company?
I was like WTF?   

The explosives were to be used against us.

The Iraqis can't stand on their on two feet without shooting themselves in the foot. I haven't seen about the explosives being sent from the US company. 

Too much going on today.Somehow boxes containing part for devices were shipped into a military base near Persian gulf IIRC  Lack of sleep here. Anyway some of the devices apparently are made in US.They named a possible company responsible but Hubby came home and I didn't here the rest.I'll see if I can round up an article.

Thanks, I keep saying no more, it is all too overwhelming, but I don't listen to myself. This is another terrible situation, I can't imagine not knowing where my child is, Christine's mom is strong, I would not be, the institution is where I would end up.

I think so too Trimm, and with everything you have been going through it might help to just goof off and have happy, shiney tv shows on.  It sure couldn't hurt. I figure no matter how upset I get with all the politics, there is nothing I can do and the powers that be will do what they want anyway  Probably not a good way to be, but after awhile one just gets worn down.

Kuwait Nabs Al Qaeda Group Planning Attack on U.S. Base

KUWAIT CITY  —  Kuwaiti authorities announced Tuesday they have arrested an Al Qaeda-linked group that was planning to attack a key U.S. military base in the small oil-rich state.

The Interior Ministry said in a brief statement that State Security detained a "terrorist network" of six Kuwaitis who gave "detailed confessions" about plans to bomb Camp Arifjan, the main U.S. base in the country, as well as the headquarters of the country's security agency, in addition to other facilities it did not name.

The statement did not provide any details. However, Kuwait's Alrai daily quoted anonymous security sources on Tuesday that the group had confessed to buying a truck which it intended to load with fertilizer, chemicals and gas cylinders and ram into the camp.

It was unlikely the attack on the vast American logistics and supply facility in the desert south of Kuwait City would have been successful due to high security.

Kuwait has been a close U.S. ally since the Washington-led 1991 Gulf War that liberated it from a seven-month Iraqi occupation under Saddam Hussein.

But militants in the country oppose the U.S. military presence and have attacked American troops and civilians working for them in the past.

In October 2002, two Kuwaiti extremists opened fire on U.S. Marines training on Failaka island, killing one and injuring another. In January 2003, a fundamentalist civil servant killed an American contractor and severely wounded another when he ambushed their car near a U.S. army camp.

Six Kuwaitis and stateless Arabs are serving life sentences after being convicted in 2007 of planning attacks on U.S. troops and Kuwaiti security personnel. They were part of a group arrested after unprecedented street clashes with militants in 2005.
