I hate the one where the two people are outside on a mountain, holding hands in seperate bathtubs.  That is just the stupidest commercial I have ever seen.

JSM - glad to hear you got a 5.0 and the bewbs behaved.  I knew you would be fantastic. Really want to see the video!

Trimm - I have been praying for you and your neighbours.

Fanny - read your post.  Hope that is not your last.

I have had a crazy busy weekend.  First my daughter convinced me to go on a bike ride with her.  I have not been on a     for about 10 years.  So I think we are going for a nice leisurely ride down to the lake .  WRONG!!!! She starts a new school in 2 weeks and wants to ride there.  It is about 7.5 Km there and 7.5 km back .  That translates to about 9.5 miles AND we have to go through a river valley to get there.  So there is no easy ride one way or the other as we have to go up a hill both ways crossing the river.  My knees were screaming when I got home.  Yesterday my youngest decided that since he skipped bike riding 101 and went straight to skateboarding  and rollerblading he wants to learn to ride a bike.  So there is me out in the field with him running behind him while he is learning.  Problem is everytime I let go and he can not hear my footsteps (not hard as the ground stops shaking when I stop running) he stops peddling.  After the first hour of this and me wanting to call 911 for the heart attack I am sure is to follow he has one of the slow motion crashes.  He turns around to see where I am , turns the handlebars too sharp, bike stops instantly and back end gets airborne, he is still holding handlebars, does a full air flip over handle bars, chest lands on tire and flips on his back.  So there is me carrying the bike back home as the handlebars are totally backwards and the brake cable somehow got under the frame and I can not get them turned around for the life of me.  He was fine, just scared and I was ready to drop.  I get to the house and the older two are there like they have ESP  and are waiting to see what kind of mess I have gotten myself into now  .  My youngest tells his big brothers that he had a awesome crash and high fives them while I am checking my pulse.

NR, I am butting into your story because my son had a similiar accident about 5 years ago. He was 10, and flipped his bike the same way, but his chest hit the handlebars. He felt fine, but after about an hour, he starting having numbness in his shoulder. I thought nothing of it, since he didn't hit that part of his body. But the pain had gotten worse and I decided to take him to the e.r., which I wanted to avoid because it is over an hour away. Anyway, I was glad I did, because he had a grade 3 liver laceration, and was hospitalized in I.C.U. for a week! Everything turned out fine, but I never would have associated shoulder pain with a liver injury! Just wanted to share, in case he experiences the same symptoms.  an angelic monkey

Gizzie you are not butting in.  Thank you for the heads up.  I think landing on the tire was lucky and saved him more serious injuries.

Don't even get me started on the Viagra.

Here's my opinion.    It is a drug that should only be issued to the man if his wife agrees!
Good idea.  Viva Viagra

Northern Rose your teaching your son how to ride a bike reminds me of my husband teaching the girls. For some strange reason they would stop the bike by hitting a tree  it took my husband awhile but they eventually got the idea of how to really stop a bike. Glad your son is alright. I use to love bike riding, but would never attempt it here.

I can remember when my brother and myself would tie a rope to the back of our bikes. We had to keep up with each other or face the wreck. The one thing we didn't plan on was a tree that came between us one time.   Monkey Devil! Greatest wreck of all bicycle history for us. It hurt pretty bad,but we didn't knock our teeth out so it was all good.
Monkey Devil! It's a wonder with some of the things we did as a kid we can now laugh about it. I remember also there wasn't any fancy swimming lessons, my dad just said jump off the raft I did, and I didn't sink I swam so that is how I learned to swim

OMG.  I learned by doing the same thing in a dugout.  Had no idea how to swim, my dad told me to jump, I went under first and remember him telling me to use my arms and legs.  That is how I learned.  My mom decided to take us to the pool a few weeks later.  I thought I was good to go as far as swimming went so walked over to the big diving tower, and jumped.  I remember feeling like I was going down forever once I hit the water.  I made it to the edge of the pool and my mom was frantic standing there with a life guard as she had not seen me go over to the tower until I had gotten to the top of the platform.  She asked me what I thought I was doing and I told her learning to dive.  The lifeguard told me not to use the diving towers anymore. I was maybe 7 at the time.  It is amazing how those big events are the memories from childhood that we keep.  I wonder about kids today who do nothing but watch TV and play video games what memories from childhood they will have as they get older or do they only have a blank?

Northern Rose you are much braver than I, going off of a diving board, oh no, I am so afraid of heights    You got that right, we were out and about playing weather permiting. Not so much now, which is such a shame

It was not about being brave at the time.  I think I figured that if you learned to swim by jumping in to the dug out you learned to dive by climbing up and doing the same.  I wish some things were that easy.

Gizzie that is awful, I guess one just never knows when you fall or hit your head if something worse has happened inside the body.

I know! I felt so bad for telling him that he'd be ok! He was like "I told you mom", but he wasn't upset, thankfully! Besides, he got to have a one week break from me, lol, and over a month from school! Had a private room, complete with video games and a nurses button, lol, that he quickly took advantage of!

Thanks. You're probably exactly right, it was a softer landing. Sometimes our guardian angels take more of a hit then we do!  an angelic monkey

I know of a very lovely home in Texas that has an old iron bed, with head board, footboard and both rails attached ( all set up and painted white) in the front yard, with beautiful flowers growing inside.  It's a "flower bed".   I used to see it when I would drive there to visit my sister and I used to wonder why these people had this old bed in their front yard and one day it just hit me that these people had a sense of humor.

That is funny! I wish I had a "creative" mind, but all I get when I think of flowers, is a flower pot!
