Sharing this with all the monkeys that consider their internet is slow :

Carrier pigeon beats internet service

Article from: Reuters

From correspondents in Johannesburg, South Africa

September 10, 2009 08:06am

A SOUTH African IT company has proved it was faster for them to transmit data with a carrier pigeon than to send it via the country's internet network.

Internet speed and connectivity in Africa's largest economy are poor because of a bandwidth shortage. It is also expensive.

Local news agency SAPA reported the 11-month-old pigeon, Winston, took one hour and eight minutes to fly the 80km from Unlimited IT's offices near Pietermaritzburg to the coastal city of Durban with a data card was strapped to his leg.

Including downloading, the transfer took two hours, six minutes and 57 seconds - the time it took for only four per cent of the data to be transferred using a Telkom line.

SAPA said Unlimited IT performed the stunt after becoming frustrated with slow internet transmission times.

The company has 11 call-centres around the country and regularly sends data to its other branches.

Telkom, the country's leading internet service provider, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Internet speed is expected to improve once a new 17,000km underwater fibre-optic cable linking southern and East Africa to other networks becomes operational before South Africa hosts the soccer World Cup next year.

Local service providers are currently negotiating deals for more bandwidth.

Oh, then comes the next genration! Like the time the fat lady in the pew in front of us got up to sing. Her dress was "caught up" in her crack. Before I could stop him, my son reached out and pulled it out.

Perhaps that is where the word pew originated.
I can see why you continue going to Church CBB.  Never a dull moment.

Oh, it was bad! Her head shot around and there we were, eye to eye............... my jaw was dropped and eyes were wide; her eyebrows were furled and she was frowning. We both were just "frozen" like that staring at each other for what seemed an eternity. After she broke the stare by whipping back around to the front........................ you guessed it; I started getting tickled. Ohhhhhhh, I tried to surpress it so hard. I squeezed my eyes shut and hung my head, but everytime I squinted, I could see my tummy shaking like a bowl of jelly! I put my hand over my face and felt tears on my fingers. The singing stopped and to my horror and funny bone, they began to pray. You could hear a pin drop. There was no esacpe. We were in the middle of the pew and my brain found the whole circumstance beyond hysterical! I could feel my son squirming next to me to position himself in front of my face. He knew I was laughing and was delighted! So, he started laughing too.................. squealing with delight, actually! In one motion, I grabbed him up, and blinded through tears inched my way out of the pew. When I got to the aisle, I broke into a run, 4 inch heels and all!
To this day, Michael and I can set each other off quicker than anyone! It's a family trait. When Mom, Michael and I were together it was just a matter of time. She didn't even need to know what it was about! If I went, she'd go! Predictably, Michael would look toward the ceiling and roll his eyes before he broke and that one action would kick us up a notch. Ohhhhhhh, the stories I could tell!

Cool Avi Blue Moon.  Nice job CBB.  I can feel Halloween creeping up on us...and I think I am ready.  Fall is a nice season
in NY.  Barring any hurricanes, tornadoes or Swine flu attacks.

Ok, I know you said you had a clinic, but I think you may have missed your calling CBB.  You are a terrific story teller and
writer.

I have the same laugh connection with my sister and son.  The day my sister went into labor I was at her house. I really felt she
needed me to keep her calm and relaxed.  As she sat there on her bed doing her deep breathing technique i frantically ran into
the living room to crack up.  I was practically hysterical with laughter.  I just couldn't look at her.

My son follows in my foot steps and he was so afraid he would crack up during his wedding vows, I sat in my pew just knowing what he was thinking and praying he and I could contain ourselves.   I was so relieved when it was over and we managed to maintain our composure.  It can be so much fun but so embarrassing.
