Woman has been missing since Friday
Aug. 16, 2009, 9:03PM
Police are searching for a 20-year-old autistic schizophrenic woman who was last seen at her Dickinson home Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Amber Moinat left her house for a walk about 4:30 p.m. and never returned, authorities said. About 7 p.m., Moinat's mother, who told Dickinson police that her daughter has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old, received a call from Moinat in which she claimed she had been abducted and tied up.

Investigators contacted the owner of the phone who stated that Moinat knocked on his door in the 3900 block of Woodchase in Houston and asked to use his phone for an emergency.

After placing the call, Moinat told the man not to answer his phone and walked off, authorities said.

On Saturday about 3:30 a.m., Moinat called her great-grandmother from a pay phone in southwest Houston and told her that she was in Arizona, authorities said.

She also told her great-grandmother that she had been shot in the leg by an ex-boyfriend. However, authorities said the ex-boyfriend is not a suspect in the case and is cooperating with police.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Moinat is urged to call the Dickinson Police Department at 281-337-4700.

You don't believe she knocked on his door?

I have sympathy for people that struggle with mental illness. It's not an easy world to live in.

HOUSTON - A woman who claimed she had been abducted from her Dickinson home is found safe near Victoria.

The Victoria County Sheriff’s Office says Amber Moinat was not physically harmed during her disappearance and is back with her parents. The woman’s family says although she is an adult, she has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old.

Moinat disappeared on Aug. 14 and called her family a short time later to say she had been assaulted and abducted by her ex-boyfriend. Police say the boyfriend cooperated with the investigation and was never considered a suspect in the case.

She was located near Victoria on Sunday night.

Family members say the woman suffers from autism and schizophrenia.
