Child Pornographer Sentenced to 120 Years in Prison

PREET BHARARA, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that WILLIAM DAVIS was sentenced today to 120 years in prison for producing, attempting to mail, and possessing child pornography, as well as possessing ammunition after having been convicted of a felony. The sentence was imposed in Manhattan federal court by United States District Judge RICHARD J. SULLIVAN. DAVIS was found guilty of all four charges against him on January 13, 2009, following a six-day jury trial before Judge SULLIVAN.

According to the Indictment, the evidence at trial, and statements made at today's sentencing proceeding:

DAVIS was arrested on January 4, 2007, at a motel in Ardsley, New York, in connection with a separate investigation by the Ardsley Police Department and the Westchester County Police Department. Law enforcement recovered the defendant's backpack, in which they discovered pornographic images of the defendant's then 4-year old stepdaughter in sealed envelopes ready to be mailed. A subsequent search of DAVIS's personal safe revealed a collection of hundreds of images of child pornography—some involving infants—as well as ammunition and a taser gun.

The sentence imposed on DAVIS, 48, of New York, New York, represents the statutory maximum for each of the four counts of which he was convicted. Judge SULLIVAN ordered that this sentence will run consecutive to the state sentence the defendant is currently serving.

United States Attorney PREET BHARARA stated: "The sentence of 120 years imposed today serves as a warning to those who deal in child pornography that they are risking their freedom by involving themselves in such cruelty. More importantly, today's sentence ensures that this defendant will never again be able to exploit an innocent child."

Mr. BHARARA praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ardsley Police Department, and the Westchester County Police Department in connection with the investigation and prosecution, and thanked the Westchester County District Attorney's Office for its assistance.

Assistant United States Attorney AIMEE HECTOR is in charge of the prosecution.

From LoHud.com. Never, ever ought to see the light of day.

The production of child porn charge refers to explicit photos of Davis' 4-year-old step-daughter that Ardsley and Westchester County police found after they arrested Davis for the Dec. 28, 2006, kidnapping of a 12-year-old girl off a Brooklyn street. Davis took the girl to the Ardsley Acres Motel where he raped her.

Ardsley detectives later found additional child pornography on computer disks and five bullets in a safe that Davis had left at his ex-wife's apartment in Manhattan.

He was convicted in August 2007 in state Supreme Court in Westchester County for the Ardsley rape and sentenced to 40 years. The 120-year federal sentence imposed today will run consecutive to the state sentence.
