I don't know if this will make sense, but last year my neighbor was arrested. I took her to see her public defender. The p.d. told her that she pleas not guilty at the preliminary to "reserve her rights". To what, I don't know.

But the way it was explained to me was it allows time for the p.d. and d.a. to work out a deal, before the next hearing date. Didn't make sense to me as she plead guilty anyway.

Isn't it actually a "good thing" that we don't know a lot about the criminal system?

State: Duct Tape In Anthony Case 'Rare'
Prosecution Plans To Link Tape Found On Caylee's Body To Gas Can
Tony Pipitone
POSTED: Thursday, September 3, 2009

Duct tape found both on Caylee Anthony’s body and a gas can found in the Anthony family home is a rare, industrial fire-resistant tape, according to a court filing Thursday by the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office.

Investigators believe both the gas can and the body were at one time in the trunk of Casey Anthony’s car.

The industrial fire-resistant tape, marketed as “Fire Guard DUCK,” was manufactured by Henkel Consumer Adhesives, of Avon, Ohio.

Until it recently sold its duct tape division, Henkel was by far the largest manufacturer of duct tape in the nation, according to its Web site.

And, when Local 6 first revealed the same brand tape was found on Caylee’s body and in the Anthony home, her defense team dismissed that, noting how widely Henkel tape is sold.

But assistant state Attorney Jeff Ashton contacted the Henkel company, now known as ShurTech Brands, and discovered the tape found with the body and on the gas can was actually an extremely rare type of industrial fire resistant tape.

Only 134,719 rolls were sold in 2006 and 2007 in North America, according to the records submitted to the court Thursday.
That constitutes less than 0.2 percent of all duct tape sales during those years, based on more than $100 million in duct tape sales reported by the industry in 2002, the last year for which Local 6 was able to obtain data.

The odds of two pieces of randomly discovered duct tape manufactured in 2006 and 2007 being of that same, rare type approach 250,000 to 1. The odds of such a coincidence are much higher, if you factor in all the duct tape in existence, regardless of when it was manufactured, and determine how much duct tape sales have grown since 2002.

That is doubly funny since that Donna Versace on steroids look alike (Baden) blew off the tape as if it was no big deal.  I really can't wait for this trial.

Great Great news!!!!  The duct tape being so rare is one of the best things I have heard all day!  Cuto's to the Judge for allowing the theft charges to go forward more good news.
Can hardly wait till tomorrow when we hopefully get to hear or read depo's from LP and crew.

Casey is going down just like we all knew she would.

New Trial Date Request Granted In Casey Case

Posted: 11:04 am EDT September 3, 2009Updated: 6:30 pm EDT September 3, 2009
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- If prosecutors have their way, Casey Anthony will already be a convicted felon before she stands trial in her daughter's murder. A judge ruled Thursday he'll schedule her check forgery trial before her murder trial
Target surveillance video of Casey Anthony using Amy Huizenga's stolen checks to buy sexy lingerie, beer, the blue hoodie she wore the first time she was arrested and her big white sunglasses has been viewed thousands of times. Bank of America video showing her smile after the teller handed her $250 from Huizenga's checking account has also been widely viewed.

Friday, Circuit Judge Stan Strickland rejected the defense claim that the check fraud trial would hinder work on Casey's murder case. The judge says Huizenga has suffered enough stress and embarrassment and deserves justice.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer believes there are unspoken reasons the defense wanted to put off Casey's 13-count check fraud trial. First, if Casey has any intention of taking the stand during her murder trial.

"If I were the prosecutor I would ask, 'Have you ever been convicted of a crime?'" Sheaffer said.

If she's convicted of stealing Huizenga's checks, she'd have to say yes.

"As soon as a jury hears that, it would be as though what a dog hears when you talk to a dog after you say its name, it's just blah, blah, blah," Sheaffer said.
If Casey is convicted of stealing the checks, it could hurt her chances of fighting the death penalty if she's convicted of the premeditated murder of her daughter Caylee.

"The greater likelihood that, one, you're going to have the jury recommend death and, two, the sentence of death would be upheld on appeal," Sheaffer said.

Judge Strickland says testimony in Casey's check fraud trial should only take a day or two and he plans to schedule that trial soon. The defense says it's "disappointed." Huizenga says it's hindering her job opportunities and signed an affidavit supporting that.

The duct tape info is just another view of how intense and professional the prosecution is.  Casey has NO chance.  Too bad she never played football or was in the movies.  Those are the only ones that really beat the system.  This alleged "dream team" is not so special.  They are all jaded and are basically has beens.  I can not see them winning this.

I might be wrong about this but I think they will plead NO CONTEST when the time comes.  They are allowed to change their plea.  A no contest will mean the same as guilty but she won't have to answer questions.  The state can't prevent that.   They will just take whatever they have to since this is a no win anyway.  JMO

I also would love to see the trial.

Yeah, actually this makes sense.   So, then the judge just determines a sentence for KC, right?   What happens to all the evidence against her?   It can be used in the murder trial, right?

Casey Anthony’s trial
for check fraud

Updated: Thursday, 03 Sep 2009, 5:31 PM EDT

    * By NICK FOKIANOS | FOX 35 News

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - On Thursday the court announced that Casey Anthony’s trial for check fraud will be scheduled before her murder trial.

The State argued that it would like the forgery case set for trial as soon as possible. The Defendant argued that to set this matter for trial prior to the Defendant’s murder trial would hamper their ability to adequately prepare for the murder trial. The Defendant's capital defense attorney, Ms. Andrea Lyon, would be required to prepare for and litigate the forgery case along with Mr. Baez in order to adequately protect Ms. Anthony. So, the Defendant argued that the forgery case would divert attention currently being paid to preparation of the capital case.

In terms of legal skill and analysis, the check fraud case will be rather simple. Few witnesses will be called, and excluding jury selection, should not take more than a day or two. The Defendant argued that the real problem will be jury selection. The State offered to go "non-jury" with a simple bench trial.
More discovery in the Casey Anthony case is expected to be released Friday.
