Brach....I have to ask....do you run along...does he drag you?   

He walks politely at my side. He's #140 and the very first thing he learned after his adoption was that pulling on the leash put an abrupt end to the walk. He's way way to big to be out of control or yanking me around or lunging. He knows a 'going for a walk' semi-heel position that means generally on my left side with leeway to smell the light poles. And he knows a very formal obedience school heel position for traffic and meeting people.

It was rather necessary training or he'd be a danger to me and others. And I'm sure he can't really make this connection (big dog of little brain) but once I was sure he understood heel and some other manners, he was able to go with me all over the place. We go to dog events and public parks and the dog park and pet-friendly businesses. No manners = no fun. For both of us.

I have a Shar Pei. She's a very good girl by nature. It's a good thing because look up "ease of training" by breed and you'll have to go to the last page, last paragraph, last word to find Shar Pei. Mine has read that article, too!

The top of her head is really soft.................. that's about it!    The rest of her feels like there's gel beneath a welcome mat!

She's a "licker" more than a "cuddler" anyway. She wants to touch some part of me when I lay down, but it's usually her butt, just barely,  against my thigh.
