More child victims of Phillip Garrido?

When Erika Pratt called the Contra Costa County sheriff's office in November of 2006 to report her suspicions about a woman and young girls who were living under squalid circumstances in the back yard of Phillip Garrido's home in Antioch, the lead received only a cursory investigation. The deputy who went to the house to talk to Garrido did not look in the back yard, citing the fact that he did not have a search warrant. If he had looked, he might very well have found Jaycee Dugard, who was kidnapped in 1991 at the age of 11, and her daughters, aged 11 and 15, both fathered by her captor.

In fact, Garrido's status as a registered sex offender (his crime in the publicly available sex offender registry is listed as "261(a)(2) RAPE BY FORCE/FEAR/ETC") means that police can search his property without a warrant.

Two UC Berkeley police officers succeeded where the sheriff's deputies failed. Lisa Campbell and Ally Jacobs called Garrido's parole officer on Tuesday after Garrido came to them to request permission to hand out flyers on campus. Campbell and Ally found the behavior of the two young girls with Garrido to be strange enough to warrant contacting Garrido's parole officer. Thanks to the vigilance of Campbell and Jacobs, along with the parole officer who followed up on their call, Dugard and her two daughters are finally free of Garrido.

Pieces of this 18-year-old puzzle are finally coming together. But one thing that Pratt said, reported in the Guardian and elsewhere, remains unexplained:

Pratt said that people came and went from the property, but the core group consisted of two girls about four years old, one girl about 11, another girl about 15 and a young woman about 25. They were all blonde, she said.

The woman and the two girls, aged 11 and 15, are presumably Dugard and her two recovered daughters. But who are the two four-year-old girls? And where are they?

News of Dugard's Recovery Brings Hope to Nick Family

Morgan Nick was taken from this ball park 14 years ago.

Four years earlier almost to the day, Jaycee Dugard was abducted from a town in California.

She was found alive and well yesterday.

Could the same happen to Morgan?

Her mother Colleen says yes. "You know there is this belief that when a child has been gone for a certain amount of time that it's not possible for them to come home. But once again, yesterday proves that is not true. Just because we can't see them, just because we can't find them, doesn't mean they're gone. It means they're waiting on us to find them," she said.

Colleen says Thursday's recovery brought her family hope that Morgan could come home again. "Our hope has never wavered. Our hope has been resolute that we would find Morgan. But when you find a child that has been stranger abducted, missing for many years, it really reinforces that we are on the right path. We are doing the right thing, that our fight is worth fighting. And it really encourages and strengthens all those people around our family that are fighting with us."

And while it was a special set of circumstances that led authorities to find Jaycee, colleen says they have to keep searching for Morgan. "Children cannot recover themselves. We have to fight for them. We have to do everything we can every day to make the path for them to come home," said Colleen.

As questions surrounding Jaycee's abduction and her 18 years in captivity slowly become answered, Colleen says it's important to remember that Jaycee is a hero.

Police Release Details Of Jaycee Lee Dugard's Kidnapping

She spent more than half her life in isolation ... Police say, the sex slave of a registered sex offender...Jaycee Lee Dugard was sheltered from the world by fifty-eight year old Phillip Garrido...according to police. Now she's free -- and the people who apparently kidnapped her almost twenty years ago -- are facing a judge.Fox's Claudia Cowan has more. From a neighbor's yard you get a glimpse of the place Jaycee Dugard called home for almost twenty years.A maze of tents and makeshift sheds where police say fifty-eight year old Phillip Garrido hid his victim from the rest of the world. One neighbor says she had no clue about this house of horrors.WHITE says: "We're just flabbergasted, we just knew none of this was going on what so ever, never heard and noises, nothing."Others describe Garrido as odd, saying something wasn't quite right for years.Police say Garrido and his wife Nancy snatched Dugard in 19-91 from her bus stop. She was just eleven years old.Investigators say Dugard had two daughters during her eighteen years of captivity... Now ages eleven and fifteen... And that Garrido fathered both of them.According to police, the young girls were also isolated, never going to school or a doctor.Jaycee's stepfather, Carl Probyn -- witnessed the abduction and was a suspect in the case for a while.PROBYN says: "Just total shock. It's after 18 years you know when my wife called me in basically said are you sitting down? I said yea. She goes they found Jaycee. And she paused for a few, you know ten seconds. And she goes she's alive and we both cried for about ten minutes."Jaycee -- and her two daughters -- have been reunited with her family.Probyn says Jaycee feels guilty for having bonded with her abductor. Now investigators are trying to figure out *exactly* how Garrido kept his secret for so long...Especially since he had yearly visits from parole officers as a registered sex offender.Rupf says: "this animal was sentenced to fifty years in prison, and if he would have served his full sentence, he would still be in custody for another 19 or 20 years."

Katherine Callaway, who was raped by Jaycee Lee Dugard's kidnapper, glad Phillip Garrido behind bars

A Las Vegas woman raped by kidnap sicko Phillip Garrido said Friday she was relieved the "monster" is behind bars again.

"I am overwhelmingly relieved," Katherine Callaway told The Daily News. "He's a monster."

Callaway said she was "shocked" when she learned that the man arrested for kidnapping and raping Jaycee Lee Dugard was the same man who attacked her in the 1970s.

Callaway, who lives in Las Vegas, said she intends to speak more about her ordeal in the coming days.

Garrido served 17 years in Leavenworth Prison in Kansas for attacking Callaway. He was released in 1988.

Newspaper accounts of the assault said Garrido had hitched a ride with the then-25-year-old casino worker from South Lake Tahoe - and attacked her in the car.

The victim told police Garrido handcuffed her, taped her mouth, tied her up and drove to a mini-storage warehouse in Reno.

Garrido then dragged the woman into one of the units, which he'd decked out with rugs on the floor and walls - and equipped with pornographic magazines, a movie projector, marital aids, a spotlight, wine and hot water.

The woman was rescued when Reno Police Officer Clifford Conrad spotted the car and knocked on the unit door to investigate.

When Garrido opened the door, Conrad heard his captive scream.

Garrido was sentenced in 1977 to 50 years in federal prison for kidnapping, and five years to life on a state charge of sexual assault, according to a spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Robotlike girls caught employees' attention

BERKELEY, Calif. - The blond girls Phillip Garrido introduced as his daughters were pasty white, even though it was the end of summer, and seemed rehearsed, robotic and unusually submissive.

They called Garrido “Daddy.”

Two University of California, Berkeley, police employees who interviewed Garrido and his daughters this week said at a news conference Friday they knew something was wrong because the girls obviously were not normal.

Police said Garrido fathered the girls with Jaycee Dugard, whom they say he kidnapped 18 years ago when she was 11, and kept them imprisoned in his backyard.

Garrido and the girls showed up on the Berkeley campus Monday and met with Lisa Campbell, manager of special events for the UC police department.

Garrido told her he wanted to hold a campus event he called “God’s Desire,” which he frenetically described as having to do with schizophrenia and the FBI.

Campbell, 40, a former Chicago cop, said she found it curious that the girls were not in school and appeared not to have spent any time in the sunlight.

Campbell said Garrido was “clearly unstable,” but the girls were even more striking.

Clothed in drab dresses, with penetrating blue eyes that matched their father’s, they were “non-responsive” and exuded no energy, she said.

Busy with other matters and eager to learn more about this strange trio, Campbell asked Garrido to return the next day to plan the event. She then went to UCPD Officer Ally Jacobs, 33, and told her something was not right with the three.

Jacobs ran a computer check and learned Garrido was a federal parolee and sex offender. She joined Campbell in the Tuesday meeting and tried not to arouse Garrido’s suspicions.

“We really didn’t know what we had,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs and Campbell took turns talking to Garrido while the other tried to draw out the girls. They asked the girls their names but couldn’t clearly understand their mumbling.

They said the names were “hippielike,” akin to Jasmine and Buttercup.

The younger girl said she was in fourth grade, and her elder sister said she was in 9th grade. Asked where they went to school, they answered in unison “like robots,” Jacobs said. "'We’re home schooled.'"

Whenever the younger girl spoke, her sister would “shoot her a glance” of warning, Jacobs said.

Garrido told them matter-of-factly that he had once been convicted of kidnapping and rape. The girls did not react.

Jacobs asked the younger girl about a bump above one of her eyebrows.

“‘It’s a birth defect. It’s inoperable. I will have it for the rest of my life,’" Jacobs said the girl replied in a rehearsed manner. “She just wouldn’t stop smiling.”

Jacobs, the mother of two young boys, said she tuned into her “mother mode” as she watched the girls.

She described the girls as "'Little House on The Prairie meets Robots, Clones.'" The elder girl seemed “bothered” when her younger sister said they had an older sister, 28, at home.

“Twenty-nine,” the older girl corrected.

"'I am so proud of my girls,'" Jacobs remembered Garrido saying as he put his arm around the elder girl’s shoulder. “They don’t know any curse words.”

At one point, Campbell made eye contact with the older girl, who “quickly caught herself and went back to looking at the ceiling.” Campbell called the younger girl’s smile a “smirk.”

When Garrido and the girls left, Jacobs called his parole officer and suggested he might want to contact Garrido.

The parole officer, whom she did not identify, called her back and told her Garrido had no children. Maybe they were grandchildren, she said he asked.

Police arrested Garrido on Wednesday, and both Campbell and Jacobs have been lauded internationally for helping free Dugard and her daughters.

Jacobs, who has worked for UC police for nine years, said she never expected to play such a role. She previously had policed tree sitters protesting a UC development plan.

“For the life of me,” Jacobs said with a grin, “I thought the tree protest was going to be the biggest thing.”

I pray that those two girls can still get some help and that it is not too late.  By the account of them from the last article I fear what he has done to them.

There is also a white van tucked away in his back yard.  I hope the FBI are looking at that van closely.

Can anyone zoom in to see what those pictures are that are to the left of the tent?  One is on a blue background, one looks to be on cardboard?

It looks like there is a smaller encloser/cage out of chainlink behind the white van against the fence.  It also looks like their is some metal over it as a roof?

Its really sad they were forced to live in such squalor. Makes ya wonder if Jaycee was allowed ever to live in the house.

Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks for the pictures.

I don't think she was.  Greta just had someone on who was at the property and between where Jaycee and her children were kept and the rest of the backyard there was a solid fence with shrubs overgrown along it.  There was a small area with a tarp and if you went under the tarp  you found a door to get you into the area Jaycee was in.  I believe he said the door had a padlock on it and only the two girls just recently had gone with the sicko on a few field trips.
