Thanks Klaas and Sue.  Klaas, I liked that one better that you had but the one I could get on wood that will be here by Christmas is not as pretty, so I ordered two.  I got the one that is on wood that just states It's a wonderful Life and I got the one you liked.  The board one is by K. Klaasen.

KLAAS! Will you please, please answer just one Photoshop question for me? Maybe one a day for a life sentence, huh?

I can't do anything but lasso an image and move it to another, and then "background erase" until the unwanted edges are gone. That's so tedious! I know there has to be a way to only select the part you want to move to another image, right? Particularly when the image has that grey and white checkerboard as a background, or when the background is just a solid color. Can you "Tip of the day" me? I'm pressing "1" for English.  

Honestly, I'm still learning as well and I normally do it just like you do.  Sometimes, like in the case of Nonesuche's star, when it's a simple design that you simply want no background for, you can use the MAGIC WAND then erasing what you don't want is easier.

I really don't know many tricks.

There's a smartass at work that selects one of the "mask" options that makes the "dancing ants" go around selected colors and then it moves cleanly; no edges. I'm sure there are steps I'm not relaying here, 'cause I can't do it. He's sooooo condesending that I hate to ask him anything, but the "help" options on Photoshop are over my head.
Klaas, can you help justins with her avatar? I tried but it was a pretty dismal effort........there's a candy cane in it that showed up pretty well, but I'm sure she would be better pleased if you did it. If it would be easier to take what I did and fix it, I'll post it for you, but you might find it easier to just start over. I tried, Justins!
