Tevye is remembering this:  “People sleep peaceably in their bed at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” –George Orwell Thanks to all the brave men AND WOMEN who are "just doing their job". And to those who gave their all, we remember.

I've know quite a few of those "rough men" in several different walks of life. It is the one thing that gives me hope the country will not be allowed to go the way this administration plans to go.

I have been going back through all the posts they were done before I got myself together enough to login to the thread today. Each story, each video, each picture is touching and very appreciated by me.

NOROSE, asked me not to watch the news and reports. I cannot help it, but every 9/11 I feel that I must immerse myself in the day over and over again. I feel I would not be respecting what happened, and how many lives were lost if I did not. I am one of those people that refuse to ignore what happened, and never forget. I even watch the programs that are done throughout the years, and have read every book that has come out about it.

I know people who don't even ackowledge the day, and say it is in the past. I refuse to be one of them, even if it hurts. I vowed on 9/11 I would never forget, and I requested that "She never forgot 9/11/2001" be inscribed on my tombstone. Even if I get dementia or senile in my dying days, I do not think I will forget it, for so many reasons.  an angelic monkey

I just was relaying what was told to me by one of the therapists I went too. She told me to limit the time that I watch news, she tells that to a lot of her patients. I do limit to no more then one hour a day, and then I just watch nonsense shows. Now if something big is happening of course then I monitor. But then I use to have news on almost all the time, and it was helping matters. I was just thinking for your anxiety attack and to keep the blood pressure down. It is easy to get worked up with the news.

Coast Guard Refuses to Apologize for Training Drill During Tribute to 9/11
Earlier Friday, confusion reigned on the Potomac following reports of shots being fired by the Coast Guard on a suspicious boat. Coast Guard boats with guns visible patrolled the area and a helicopter roamed overhead.

The Coast Guard refused to apologize for a training exercise it conducted Friday in the Potomac River that sparked panic and confusion moments before as President Obama and his motorcade crossed a nearby bridge on its way to the Pentagon to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"It's unfortunate it escalated to this level," Coast Guard Chief of Staff John Currier said at a news conference. "What you're seeing is the result of a normal training exercise such that when we have a threat or when we have a security issue in the national capital region, all agencies can come together under secure communications protocol and execute security operations very professionally and successfully."

Earlier Friday, confusion reigned on the Potomac following CNN reports of the Coast Guard firing 10 rounds at a suspicious boat and showed vessels circling in the water. Obama had traveled to the Pentagon to lay a wreath in a ceremony commemorating the eighth anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

You are so right. I wish I could do that. an angelic monkey

I have always been a newshound, all my life. Even when I was on the truck I would seek-out the news radio stations, even when they were full of static and I could barely hear them. This was before satellite radio. When I stopped, I always tried to get the news on my television. I guess a big part of me is a realist, and I have to know what is going on.

I have been given that advise before. I don't know why I have to torture myself, but I do. Maybe I am really a machochist.  But I am nuts if I am in a position I don't know what is going on. I wish I were one of those people who never watched the news, and were oblivous to what was going on, except with their home and family. It has only gotten worse for me after 9/11. Maybe I am a little nuts. But I am one of those "moths to the flame" type people. Now it is hurting me.

Obama Faces Party Opposition Over Afghan War
Congress's reluctance to increase troops may pit Democratic majority against White House

The Wall Street Journal

FOXNews.com
Friday, September 11, 2009
WASHINGTON -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she sees little congressional support for boosting troop levels in Afghanistan, putting the Democratic majority in Congress on a possible collision course with the Obama administration over the future conduct of the war there.

The remarks Thursday by Pelosi (D., Calif.) make her the highest-ranking Democrat to signal opposition to the administration's handling of the Afghan war, a top national-security priority.

The remarks also underscored the increasingly complex political dynamics confronting President Barack Obama as he considers whether to send additional U.S. forces to Afghanistan.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top American commander in Kabul, is expected to formally request as many as 40,000 U.S. reinforcements this month. He and other U.S. commanders there say they believe that they need more troops to successfully implement a new counterinsurgency approach that focuses on protecting the Afghan populace from Taliban violence.

The administration handpicked Gen. McChrystal and has already signed off on the deployment of 21,000 new troops to Afghanistan, which will push U.S. troop levels there to a record 68,000 by the end of the year.
Still, Gen. McChrystal's pending request for tens of thousands of additional reinforcements will put the White House in a tough spot politically.

Support among Democratic and independent voters for the Afghan war has been evaporating for months, and a raft of recent polls has found that majorities of both groups now oppose continuing or expanding the conflict.

Gibbs bashes CNN

Says 'checking would be good'
By CAROL E. LEE

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs chastised CNN Friday morning for its reporting on a Coast Guard training exercise on ...

... the Potomac River, which suggested a security incident was in progress in the nation's capital.

"Before we report things like this, checking would be good," Gibbs said.

Responding directly to a CNN reporter's question about whether the public should have been notified about a training exercise, Gibbs was harshly sarcastic: "If anybody was unnecessarily alarmed based on erroneous reporting that denoted that shots had been fired, I think everybody is apologetic about that."

When another journalist noted that the Coast Guard was holding a news conference to take questions on the morning's events, Gibbs jabbed: "Hopefully CNN will go."

The president's spokesman also said the White House had not been notified in advance about any Coast Guard training exercise, but dismissed comparisons to the notoriously botched Air Force One flyover of Lower Manhattan earlier this year.

"I tend not to question law enforcement," Gibbs said, explaining the scheduling of the exercise was "a decision that was made by the Coast Guard."

I am ashamed to think that Robert Gibbs is an Alabamian and a southerner. He has totally sold out.

One more reason to totally hate Pelosi.
