Forgot my manners:

Good morning all! Anyone want to help me sort thru 901 customer databases for my mailing list? Or see 2 docs today? Or even set up a literacy program at the jail? Anyone? Bueller?
You are gone Tevye, but I would go to the doctor's office with you if I could.  an angelic monkey
Thanks, JSM. I'm learning to be a good patient, I just listen to my iPod and watch the door so I don't miss them calling my name. I got the stupid drain out today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you, missy, better be at home. I know, payroll and all that, but you went in early and did it and then went home to get better, right? [stern Mom-monkey icon goes here]
Hey Tevye. I didn't know you were getting the drain out today. If I had known I would have told you to take a xanax or something. Glad you are becoming a good patient.

I didn't go in at all. Just called the payroll company, told them to give everyone 80 hours and I will fix it on the next payroll in two weeks. I couldn't crawl my way out of bed this morning until 9 because I took the magic cough medicine around 4 am.

Good girl! I'm glad you're home. Maybe since you're so sick, you could con Mom into making a food delivary? But I have to ask: if you don't have cable, how do you get all those old shows? Wish we lived closer, I'd "share".

And the drain removal only hurt (LIKE HELL) for about a minute. I suspect there's worse in my future, but at least that ugly thing is gone. Do you know how hard it is to accessorize a JP(?) drain??????
The old shows are on one of the UHF channels. I don't know what is up next, but I know at 1 is Perry Mason, 2 Hawaii Five O, 3 Streets of San Francisco, that's what I can remember from yesterday.

Anyone liked Petticoat Junction?

I loved that show - and CC your Andy Griffith story about killed me!

Well them this should put the nail in the coffin...

As a TV series, Petticoat Junction seemed lighthearted, if insipid, but certain clues give a hint as to the Shady Rest's real nature. The show always started with the girls' petticoats hung over the side of the town's wooden water tank, as if the sisters were swimming nude. They were, being forced to dogpaddle in 60 feet of water until they exhausted themselves and could offer no resistance to the abusive treatment that they would subsequently receive at the hands of their supposedly beloved Uncle Joe.

It is habit forming.I jump out the bed sometimes, running around to get a pad and pen.I finally just set it by the bed and the couch.

I just copy it to my notepad, then have the laptop in the kitchen while I'm cooking! It's easier for me, and my excuse to be on the computer too!

I copy the recipes from the thread, and put it on a word document, and have a folder on my desktop. These are my special SM recipes I snag. Sometimes I just print the one I want and take it to the kitchen in a plastic sleeve. If it's super dooper good, I put it in a binder I have just for special recipes I want to use again.

Here is my Italian meatball recipe

1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork
(if you do not do pork then go with regular ground beef as the lean is too lean and dries the meatballs out.  You can also make this with ground turkey or chicken micxed with  pork as long as it is a 1lb to 1lb ratio)
3-4 cloves minced garlic
2 eggs
1 cup Romano cheese (you can substitute Parmesan or asiago cheese)
1 1/2 TBSP chopped flat leaf Italian parsley ( cilantro)
salt and ground pepper to taste ( about 1 tsp salt and 1/4 - 1/2 tsp pepper)
2 cups stale bread crumbled ( I have used fresh bread crumbled as well as but you have to cut back the water then by a bit)
1 1/4 cups lukewarm water
1 cup olive oil

Combine beef,  and pork in a large bowl. Add garlic, eggs, cheese, parsley, salt and pepper.
Blend bread crumbs into meat mixture. Slowly add the water 1/2 cup at a time. The mixture should be very moist but still hold it's shape if rolled into meatballs.   Shape into meatballs. (I usually take a small amount of the mixture and flatten it and fry it to taste for spices before I make all the meatballs).
Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Fry meatballs in batches turning meatballs as they brown. When the meatball is very brown and slightly crisp remove from the heat and drain on a paper towel. (If your mixture is too wet, cover the meatballs while they are cooking so that they hold their shape better.)
Place cooked meatballs into  Sauce and cook for 15 more minutes

Thank you much! Good hint about frying a piece ahead of the rest. My ex used to taste the raw meat, but no, no, no, cannot do that!

Have a good day everyone, off to the store!

JSM,before hubby left for his Dr.appt. he said you need a shot of whiskey. He doesn't think he has time to bring today.
Tell hubby thanks, I have whiskey, but there is no way I could drink it. I can't stand the smell of it. I inherited from my nephew's grandmother.

I'm not too familiar with the word document thingy, lol, but I do want to start keeping them all together somehow instead of just in the notepad. It's taking me some time to figure out, but I'm getting there!

I try and ask for help from my son, but he's 15, and a smarta--, and his answers are always to google it!

Just got caught up on the thread.  Boys you guys have been talkative!

Fanny - so glad you had a nice dinner last night.  Salmon ...YUM!.  I have a really easy salmon cakes recipe that you can substitute tuna or whatever fish you want.  One of my favourites for a fast lunch as they freeze really well and nuke really well.

JSM - sorry to hear you are still feeling ill.  I will have to check out your duster.  I have heavily invested in Roomba's.  (http://store.irobot.com/home/index.jsp).  My mom won one at her senior's centre and gave it to me.  It picks up more then my regular vacuum because it autoamtically adjusts to different levels (area rugs on hardwood, etc.) especially the idiot dog's hair.  I bought two more, one for the garage and one for the basement.  I get up start them all and come on the computer and my vacuuming gets done every day.   I start it and let it run then just empty the filter and container and set it back to recharge.  I was so impressed with the vacuum that I bought their Verro to run around my pool and clean it.  Again, really impressed.

Gizzie - I have many meatball recipes.  Swedish is a cream sauce, Italian in a tomato sauce , or spicy ones?

I am making schnitzel with potatoes from the garden  and a pear and custard tart for dessert tonight.

Hmm, since I am the only one who likes the Swedish ones, I guess I'll take a spicy one. And the salmon pattie one too please. Mine are always dry.

I used to be able to cook a lot of things, a loonngg time ago, but I just can't remember so many of them.

Thank yoouu!

Spicy meatballs

1 pound lean ground beef
1 1/2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon dried parsley OR (2 TBSP fresh chopped)
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 egg

1/2 cup barbeque sauce
1/2 cup peach or apricot preserves

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a medium baking sheet.
In a large bowl, mix  the ground beef, hot pepper sauce, Cajun seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, onion, bread crumbs, milk, and egg.
Form the mixture into golf ball sized meatballs and place on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until there is no pink left in the middle.
In a small bowl, combine the BBQ sauce and  preserves.
When meatballs are done, place in a serving dish and cover with the BBQ sauce mixture. Toss to coat OR leave the sauce on the side for dipping if you want to make this as an appetizer.

I have also made this is a crockpot and just poured the BBQ sauce and perserves overtop of the meatballs and let them crock all day in the sauce (brown the meatballs first).
